The Shield As Champs, Rock’s Next Match, NXT Pay, Wrestlemania XXX

Even though The Shield has been booked strong, what would be your thoughts on putting the WWE Tag Team Championship on them?

The Shield has been booked with confidence, with the selling point being they are one of the best trios to ever work in a WWE ring. There has been talk for the last few weeks about putting them over Team Hell No for the WWE Tag Team Championship and having two of the three defend them at events going forward. The Shield is currently programmed with Team Hell No and my assumption is they eventually win the WWE Tag Team Championship, although plans are always subject to change.

With The Rock’s injury and filming Hercules in five weeks, where does that leave his schedule with WWE? Wasn’t a match with Brock Lesnar next on the table?

The Rock was in the initial plans for Extreme Rules next month, however, he was removed from them prior to Wrestlemania 29 earlier this month. There was an idea pitched to plant the seed of Rock vs. Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania XXX next year but the angle didn’t happen on Raw the night after the pay-per-view because of Rock’s injury. For a detailed report of the plans that changed and Rock’s relationship with WWE, click here.

What is the pay structure for a WWE NXT talent?

WWE developmental workers have contracts that include downside guarantees and show bonuses. One of the things that boosted morale amongst developmental workers when the company revamped WWE NXT (taping from Full Sail University) is they are paid bigger bonuses for appearing on TV because it’s an actual WWE television series.

What are the preliminary plans for Wrestlemania XXX?

Believe it or not, there has already been talk surrounding creative plans for next year’s Wrestlemania XXX pay-per-view. The company has a tendency to write backwards and we can confirm there was an idea pitched to do The Rock vs. Brock Lensar at the show next year, however, Rock apparently wants a match with Undertaker and didn’t want to get locked into something with Lesnar. Things can change a lot between now and then but it looks like Rock, Lesnar and Undertaker are in play for Wrestlemania XXX next year.

Simple, Rock vs Lesnar vs Undertaker.. now that I’d like to see!

    • http://www.facebook.com/jesse.sherwood.7 Jesse Sherwood

As long as it was booked in a Three Way Dance style (Elimination Match) then that would sound cool.

  • Darth Watchdog

Would’ve been cool to have The Rock show up the night after Wrestemania and get attacked by Lesnar. That would’ve allowed him to be off TV for a while, but set up him coming back sometime down the road and the feud would still be fresh.

    • Matt

To be fair he had torn tendons in his stomach. I wouldn’t be taking an idiot like Lesnar in the ring. He’s too bloody stiff.

  • Jamie

Rock Vs Undertaker. Now thats something I’d want to see :)

  • John

I’ve been taking a look at “the streak” and even though the achievement is incredible, the one thing that stands out to me is that The Undertaker still needs that real marquee win over the “top guy”. Think about it, he never faced Hulk Hogan, he never faced The Rock (in his prime), he never faced Bret Hart, he never faced Stone Cold, he never faced Shawn Michaels (in his prime). In my opinion The Undertaker’s best win is against Triple H at Wrestlemania 17, despite the match conveniently being forgotten by WWE.

This is why The Undertaker vs. John Cena must happen at Wrestlemania XXX! A win over the #1 guy in the company is the only way to bring an end to the legendary career of The Undertaker.

    • Mark J.

Rock-Lesnar-Undertaker would be cool, but it’s not realistic based on how WWE books matches and builds up their characters. I agree with John that an Undertaker-Cena match at WrestleMania XXX would be epic. First, it makes for the least predictable outcome. More people, including the IWC, will believe that there’s an outside chance that Taker would want to lose to Cena and end the streak (than he or the WWE would with any rising star or former star). Second, if/when Cena loses, it gives Undertaker that marquee win (per above). Third, it gives Cena haters a victory while not being a major letdown to Cena fans (losing to the real Mr. WrestleMania). Fourth, Undertaker will bring out the best in Cena, rather than relying on Cena to do that for someone else (which is harder for him). Fifth, it almost certainly prevents Cena from being goofy (since nobody gets away with that kind of PG humor in storylines against Taker). The best way, however, to build it would be a long two-month story after confronting each other IN the Royal Rumble. Everyone should be promoting this match because Cena fans get the chance to see him end the streak, and Cena haters get to root for him to be the final burial.

    • Don

Taker didn’t face those men in their prime at wrestlemania you mean?

      • John

Well my post was about the streak at Wrestlemania so yeah.

    • http://www.facebook.com/delawarebeachboy Kevin S Lehman

He did face them.. just not at Wrestlemania

    • http://www.facebook.com/jason.bagemehl Jason Bagemehl

Hogan vs Undertaker did happen, in fact Undertaker pinned Hogan clean and won the WWE title, only to lose it back to Hogan a few days later, this happened very early in The Undertakers WWE career.

      • Snap

Taker didn’t pin Hogan clean in that match, Flair slid a chair into ring upon which Taker tombstoned Hogan, it was one of the reasons for the rematch and Tunney’s presence at ringside.

However, I think the point is Taker never faced Hogan at a WrestleMania. Nonetheless, I don’t really see the whole appeal of Taker vs. Cena. Cena may be the “#1 Guy” in WWE, but Taker has always been consistently better than Cena and has been in WWE far longer. The ONLY way WWE should even consider such a match is if they are willing and prepared to turn Cena heel in the event he were to go over Taker.

  • D_gilbert88

Would like to see the shield with the tag team titles. Why not stick a singles titles on the stable too? Have dean Ambrose pick up the US title. It could make them look stronger and in turn, make the US title look stronger too.

    • -|AZ|-

The creative team in the WWE isn’t that ‘creative’ nowadays…

      -|AZ|-

  • Van Hammer, WWENews.net

Three way dance… No, No, No… There cant be a 3 way dance for what could be Takers last dance. You cant build a program between those three. Taker and Brock is sketchy but they could do it, Rock and Taker, I dont see because I dont see an angle that would justify it, especially after Rocks loss to Cena. Rock vs Brock does make sense and sounds good for business. Those two could draw so many fans who are casually tuning in with the cache they have outside of WWE.

    • Xavier

Agreed. A triple threat involving Taker would be a crime. Gimme Cena/Taker over Rock/Taker everyday of the week. Taker/Lesnar sounds very intriguing as well.

      • http://www.facebook.com/jesse.sherwood.7 Jesse Sherwood

You know, they could have Cena carry the title all the way until WM30, and have Cena vs. Taker with the WWE Title on the line. Taker beats Cena, then retires with the belt on Raw the next night. If anyone has earned that honor, it is Taker.

        • -|AZ|-

          YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!

It’ll be better if Cena drops the title to someone else, preferably Lesnar (I hear he has a title run in the current contract) at SummerSlam and regains it Royal Rumble 2014.
Whereas Taker makes a surprise entry in the Rumble match, wins it by eliminating someone like Cesaro/Sandow and challenges Cena for the title…

          -|AZ|-

Rock vs. Taker should have been this year or never. Rock won’t beat Undertaker. But with Cena there will be more doubt that Undertaker might not win. Even though I’m sure he will.

  • The Breaker

Then should we be cautiously optimistic about the chances we won’t be seeing Rock-Cena III?

    • John

Rumors are that Wrestlemania 29 didn’t do as well as WWE expected on PPV so hopefully they will realise that fans want fresh matches at Wrestlemania.

  • Xavier

I pray too God we get Taker/Cena, Austin/Punk & Rock/Lesnar, and if for some reason Rock isn’t involved with WM30 then Lesnar against Ryback or Sheamus.

  • Clint

Kind of ironic that taker wants brock, rock wants taker, wwe wants rock vs brock and brock doesnt care who he fights as long as he gets paid lol

    • Xynos

Brock is a legit badass who could legitimately kill anyone on the WWE roster. I think he’s tired of WWE already, and wants back in to UFC.

      • http://www.facebook.com/mark.mcginnis.35 Mark McGinnis

If he wants back in UFC then why did he agree to a 2 year contract extension with WWE. And no one knows how good anyone in WWE would be in UFC so its crazy to assume Brock could beat anyone.

  • Dangerous Lee

I like the idea of the Shield defending the tag titles 4 Horseman style. You never know which 2 you’re gonna get!

    • http://www.facebook.com/robert.olley.7 Robert Olley

The freebird rule like the spirit squad and i feel so wrong for having the shield and ss in the same comment

      • David Zelling

You should feel wrong because everything you comment on is pure ignorance. Keep trolling though if that’s what makes you feel better about yourself

        • http://www.facebook.com/robert.olley.7 Robert Olley

Ment sprit squad wasnt in the same league as the shield also how was my comment ignorant or trolling? Trolling is making a comment thats intended to cause a reaction

  • Xynos

WWE keeps relying on part-time stars rather than building new talent. They are sacrificing long-term success for short term profitability. What happens when Rock, Brock, and Taker can’t go any more? Then WWE is completely screwed because they haven’t built any new talent. Ziggler was losing all the time before he cashed in the briefcase–he’s not a believable champion now. There are no feuds in the mid-card right now. Heck, only Punk, Cena, and the part-time guys get mic time!

For those of you who are saying “They use Rock and Brock because they draw!”, what would’ve happened if WWF kept bringing back top draws from the 80s instead of building up stars such as Stone Cold, The Rock, Triple H, The Undertaker, The Godfather, etc. during the Attitude Era? There would be no WWE today.

How does WWE expect fans to emotionally invest in to new stars if they don’t have the opportunity to showcase themselves?

    • H.M.

Well said there bro. Mic time is elusive for 90% of the WWE stars today.

  • Lrgetrout9

Rock taking on the streak? I think Daniel Bryan says it best … NO! NO! NO!

  • Dan

If love to see someone like Batista return as the leader of the shield.

    • Dan

      I’d*

  • BobCobb

I like the idea of rock/taker. However with all the rumored names already coming up for WM 30 I have a hard time believing Austin will make an appearance. I’d rather see rock take a year off from WM and have Austin/punk for next year. I don’t think Austin would appear unless he was the main attraction

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1194205141 Kevin Madalena

Even if Rock and Stone Cold are on the same card, being as we have seen rock three manias in a row, stone cold would be the bigger draw, hype, and storyline.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Timothy-Lowe-Jr/100000559123347 Timothy Lowe Jr

I’m so surprised that taker never faced the Rock or Austin at mania or that it took that long to face hbk
