Thoughts On Alberto Del Rio, WWE’s Focus On Younger Talent, Tensai Experiment Over?, Claire Lynch Storyline

What is your opinion of Alberto Del Rio?

I touched on fans not being sold on either Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus as main eventers in Friday's installment of Ask WNW but I didn't give my full thoughts on Del Rio. I'm actually in the middle regarding Del Rio and feel he isn't as good as some of his fans say he is but isn't as bad as some of his detractors say either. Del Rio has a good look and can talk; his in-ring approach is more "simple" where he doesn't try to do too much. I see him as a main event heel but not to the level of some of the better heels in WWE history such as Chris Jericho or Randy Orton, however, I would take Del Rio over other Mark Henry or Big Show.

Why is it that WWE doesn't focus enough on younger talent? The focus seems to be on more established names such as Randy Orton and John Cena.

WWE does a good job at developing younger stars while still focusing on their top draws, so I disagree with your premise they do not focus enough on the up and comers. It's very important to remember there are only a few main event spots available at a time, however, I look at Sheamus, The Miz and Antonio Cesaro, all current titleholders in WWE, as up and coming talent. None are necessarily "younger" but I don't think anyone is going to argue they are not next in line behind the obvious names of Orton, Cena and CM Punk. I realize Cena has a lot of haters, especially from the IWC, but he is WWE's top draw and his spot will remain untouched as long as he is their top draw.

Tensai wasn't on television this week. Has Vince McMahon lost interest in him?

The Tensai project appears to be over and for anyone doubting it, Matt Bloom put over Big E Langston, a developmental talent, and Tyson Kidd over on weekend live events. We should never read too much into the results at live events, however, the results seem to reaffirm the belief Tensai just didn't work.

With TNA ending the Claire Lynch/AJ Styles storyline on last week's Impact Wrestling, do you think anything good came out of it?

The storyline got people talking so if that is what TNA was going for then to worked. However, I don't see a payoff but Lynch is leaving TNA after it was revealed she actually works at Universal Studios.

Remember questions with proper spelling and grammar have the best chance of being answered. The next installment of Ask WNW will run on Tuesday, August 28, 2012.

Cool, thanks for your thoughts on Alberto Del Rio, Richard!

I'm glad the Lynch angle is over…..but I don't get it so she works at Universal Studios. aside from her stint in TNA.. so what? depending on their situation some wrestlers/talent have part time work outside of wrestling to help make a living..

so what is the big deal that Lynch worked for Universal Studios all so.

    • jdl

The big deal is that she's ashamed of it. She probably thinks it's beneath her and doesn't want it to interfere with being taken seriously as an actress. Although based on her performances with TNA, she will never have to worry about her past actions impacting her future as an actress, as she's terrible.

    • wdr31

Story was that harrassment from visitors to Universal made it impossible for her to work. Maybe if TNA paid better this wouldn't have happened.

  • Bluto

The Claire Lynch storyline got people talking?…Yeah, for how bad and stupid it was. I'm a TNA fan, but talk about a total waste of TV time, all for it to go nowhere and not benefit Styles at all. If thats the last I see of 'Claire Lynch,' I'm happy…she's probably better off annoying people as Olive Oyl at Universal Studios.

  • jdl

I doubt Tensai is over, they'll just keep tweaking his gimmick. It's the problem with using an easily recognized worker in a gimmick that is not suited to them. Look at him, he's a big man who is obviously white playing what is essentially a Japanese feudal lord in the 21st century… That's like a Chinese man trying to play a native American gimmick.

    • Kaz Hayashi

Or a Korean wrestler portraying a John Wayne type, Cowboy gimmick…Jimmy Wang Yang anyone?

    • ChrisH

Or a Samoan trying to play the role of a Japanese sumo. Oh. Wait. Yokozuna.

  • England87

Can’t help but feel sorry for matt bloom, hope wwe gives him another shot, it might actualy be cool to see a-train again.

    • A.C.

      Albert is definitely cool!

"but he is WWE’s top draw and his spot will remain untouched as long as he is their top draw" but this is a chicken vs egg suitation.

for all that Cena has been given booking wise he should be a much bigger draw. plus i am willing to bet others that would have been given (shoved down our throat at times) of Cena they would be bigger draws on ppv.

Cena may have a lot of haters out there but for all of the haters out there, noone out there works harder out there than John Cena, going through a divorce in his personal life, and the still manages to show up everynight for his job, Cena works his ass off for Wwe thats why he is the top guy .

    • GODSENT83

He is contractually obligated. Just Luke punk says he’s there and rock isn’t, he’s obligated rock isn’t.

      • Evon Reese

It doesn't matter if Cena is obligated. If the fans weren't into him they would quit buying his stuff. And no it's not just women and kids that support him no matter how many times it gets screamed on here. He has a lot of followers that appreciate him

        • GODSENT83

Never said he didn’t, but to say he still showed up is like saying you show up to work. That’s a given otherwise you’re gone

        • Canadian wrestling fan

You mean if fans weren’t into Cena they star buying the Cena sucks merch then, right? Or that’s what the wwe is thinkin.

          • snap

I don’t think so. It’s common sense that even a “Cena Sucks” shirt is Cena merchandise. It’s just WWE’s way of fooling people into thinking they are promoting their dislike of Cena when profits made on the shirt will be credited to Cena.

Hey look, a TNA question was asked!

The whole storyline with AJ Styles, Daneils and Kaz was great in the beginning because Dixie Carter was involved! Once they inserted Olive Oil into the picture the whole angle started to crumble before my very eyes! I liked the concept of having Dixie and AJ in a secret relationship, they should have gone that route instead of how it turned out. But I did see something great coming out of this storyline, it helped elevate both Daniels and Kazarian to a new level in heelness! Personality wise, Kaz is at the best level he’s ever been as Daniels, I never cared about him before when he tried to be “the fallen angel” with his mascara and black ploshined nails. Now that he’s more normal and more “human” like he is just interesting! I find myself caring!

  • Robert olley

I just watched the kennel from hell match from 99 and the Claire lynch story was as bad as the story around that bossman feeding al snow his pet dog? Priceless

    • William Shatner

I fail to see the comparison. It was only stew with a little bit of pepper.
Wait, wasn't Al's dog called Pepper? Stew with Pepper…

  • Chapinb0yy

Thank you for answering my question richard.

  • Ego Trip

Clarie Lynch or Katie Vick……………………………………………………….Which was worse?………………………………Wrong answer it was a trick question they both stunk!

    • SRP

There’s no way a “Who’s the daddy?” angle is worse than or equal to a necrophilia angle.

    • Daniel Lim'ass

it's Katie Vick obviously. an angle about "fatherless child" and a necrophilia wasn't as bad.

  • stoney

Alberto does have everything to be a main eventer nut his character is bland, he doesn't seem to get any reaction from the crowd

  • Danno

The Clarie Lynch project as I'm calling it ended too quickly. We could have been teased a bit longer, but the end was a sour note as far as TNA's ability to do a continuing character who isn't able to hang with the wrestlers.

  • Latrell

I think Alberto Del Rio needs new talking points because I am tired of hearing him say the same thing every time.

  • John Carpenter

I stopped watching TNA because of that ridiculous storyline!
