THQ Says They Haven't Canceled 2014 Lineup; Puts Over WWE '12 Success

WWE's video game partner THQ has responded to a rumor that surfaced over the weekend that they were done for and had canceled their 2014 lineup. Below is their official statement:

THQ has not cancelled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO. As part of the ongoing review of our business, we have made decisions to ensure that the company is strategically addressing the most attractive markets. As we have previously announced, we have dramatically reduced our commitment to the kids' boxed games sector which leads to a significantly more focused release schedule moving forward. Our slate for calendar 2012 and beyond is focused on high-quality core games and continues to build our digital platform and business. We are excited for our pipeline of original and high-quality content along with our relationships with some of the best talent in the industry.

Additionally, we are thrilled with the great performance of Saints Row: The Third, which on a like for like period in North America has tripled in sell-through from Saints Row 2. In addition, WWE '12's worldwide sell-through sales are up almost 40% year-over-year for the same sales period with fewer platforms. According to NPD, for the month of December and the 2011 year, THQ was the #5 publisher overall, #4 third party, with reported sell through growing over 18% in a market that was down almost 6%. And coming up next, we have two great titles for the first half of the year including UFC Undisputed 3 and Darksiders 2.

They should shut down. WWE '12 is, by far, the worst wrestling game ever released. It is essentially an unfinished game. Their hardcore fanbase is pissed at how buggy the game is. The core parts of the game don't work properly and although we've been promised a patch to fix "the major problems", the game has been out for two months now and still… nothing.

The THQ crew who work on WWE '12 spend their days on Twitter, mostly gloating about how well WWE '12 has done in the sales. Every now and then, they'll answer a question about a part of the game that is broken, but the game and it's issues have mostly been swept under the rug at this point.

As for online capabilities, there are little to none. For the first couple of weeks, there was no access to their servers, because of more problems. They tried patching it, but it only worked temporarily. Even as recently as yesterday, I attempted to get on to their servers, but was told three times that the server was unavailable. So, as a word of warning to anyone who buys this used… DO NOT spend the extra $10 you'll have to pay to play this online. It's not worth it because it's yet another broken feature of the "best selling WWE game in the past decade."

      Just wait till wwe 13

The worst wrestling game ever because you can't play online? Plenty of wrestling games didn't even have online. Online is not the selling point of the series and never has been. Just because you can't take your 100 overall created superstar and spam toe kick to up your win/loss record doesn't mean the entire game is bad.

Actually, I don't really play online, but I do try to get online to access the Community Creations. I'm more upset by the inordinate amount of bugs the game has. Universe mode is an amazing idea, which should've made for the best game ever, but the execution was a disaster.

So, thanks for your reply, but none of what you said applies to me. 🙂

It's def not the worst ever…I think it's better then anything they've released the past few years. There needs to be improvements but, regardless of the quality of game, they definitey did a better job of promoting the game this year.

      • Jas

They did an AMAZING job of promoting the game. No question about that. They should've used some of that time to quality test it.

I see that people are trying to justify it… but go to's "Smackdown" board or the forums at and you'll see that the hardcore fans of the game (not the casual gamers) are very upset by the amount of bugs in the game.

Go to and type in WWE 12 bugs and just watch some of the videos. There are things that happen in that game that cause it to crash, cause it to be unplayable and are just inexcusable for a game that costs $60.

I don't have access to Xbox live, so online issues are of no consequence to me personally.

There's a few bugs in the game all right, probably more than in recent years, but I find it's nothing that hampers the enjoyment of it, for the most part. It may not be the best wrestling game of all-time, but I certainly think that it's the best of the last half-decade, at least.

have you ever played another wrestling game? i can think of a half dozen at least that are worse than wwe 12

      • Jas

I've played every wrestling game out there. And no, I'm not going to sit here and compare 1993's "WWF Royal Rumble" to WWE '12, because it's not a fair comparison.

But out of the recent history of wrestling games, this one has the most bugs, most glitches and the least replayability value of any of them.

        • Alejandro

I honestly haven’t ran into any bugs in WWE ’12,I love the stories they made in RTW,Universe is great to me,and there’s so much creatable stuff you can do,I think it has MORE replayability than most recent games.I’ve played all the WWE games from the past decade, and WWE ’12 is one of my favorites.

Bought it for $40 dollars first day and for sure have got my money's worth.

    • Robert

40$ wow in australia when it came out it was 100

  • Mr. Love

Wwe 12 is the best wrestling game they have put out since svr 07. But there are still way too many problems. The only reason I still but the games is to play online with friends and the servers are down more than half the time. I just stopped attempting to play because I cant get a damn match

  • Tylor G.

@Jas, it's been said time and time again that the patch is currently out of their hands. Microsoft and Sony are reviewing the patch, and when they say it's good, they will release it.

    • Jas

And perhaps when that happens, my views will change. But, until then, it will sit on my shelf, as it has since the third day I owned it.

  • Brody

Best wrestling game was WCW/NWO Revenge for the N64. Everything before and after was just garbage.
