TMZ Finds Out What The Wrestling World Has Known: Pat Patterson Is Gay

Shares 0

TMZ has a story online about Pat Patterson being gay, highlighting his "coming out" on the season finale of WWE Legends' House. You can read their story [with video] at this link.

I do not know anyone - WWE fan, employee or wrestler - that doesn't know Patterson is gay. This has been known for years and is an absolute non-issue. Patterson is one of the most respected names in the business and still books the 30-man Royal Rumble match each year. In fact, Triple H has spent the last few years learning from Patterson about how to book one of WWE's biggest matches of the year.

The only controversy I can think of regarding Patterson's sexuality was a joke that Bret Hart made during Bret Hart Appreciation Night on the WWE App after Raw last year. Bret issued a sincere apology.

Either it's a slow news day for TMZ or WWE planted this to promote Legends' House. Based on how WWE has taken over what gets published on TMZ, I would assume the latter.

The season from the season finale of the first season of WWE Legends' House is online at this link or embedded in the video below:

  • Patrick

this is not’s been know for years about Patterson and as it has been pointed out it’s been a non-issue.

I can’t believe WWE is trying to portray this as being “news.” Most WWE fans knew Patterson was gay. The fact that they are trying to make this as if its a shocking revelation it just pathetic on their part.

  • Dave Barton

Pat has been “out” to his WWE family for decades, but he’s never said it openly to the general public. That is why this is newsworthy.

    • Find me someone in the general public — a WWE fan — that doesn’t know Pat Patterson is gay.

      • Ashley

My sister didn’t know. He has never publicly acknowledged it – just like with Anderson Cooper. Everyone knew but it was news when he went public with it.

      • Lebron James

Yeah, but TMZ doesn’t cater to WWE fans. They cater to the general public.

      • Gio

Im sorry Richard bit I didn’t know that he was gay until yesterday

      • Dave Barton

Would’ve replied sooner, but I just got home from work.

To answer your question, I think you’ve been around this business for too long. Pat hasn’t even been so much as a semi-regular on tv in over 10 years. I’d expect a large part of Cena fans (read: women and children who’ve only gotten into wrestling in the last 10 years) had no idea because they don’t even know him.

Not everyone who watches WWE goes hog wild over every wrestler’s personal lives like most of us here at WNW do.

Everyone knows yeah, but this was the first time he went public about it. Plus you got to think. In his day. Being Gay was frowned upon. So him finally being able to say he is gay without judgement is a big deal. I’m sorry, if you did not get that at first. But that was the story he was telling on the show.

I didn’t know, however I also don’t have any interest in the personal lives of any past or present wrestler.

  • Mike Brailsford

And in other shock news, wrestling RINGS are actually SQUARE.

  • Bob’s Diner

And why is he ‘coming out’ on Legends House?
Everyone in that show knows that he is gay.

  • The Masked Superstar

JR once made a reference about Patterson saying “He is single fellas” That had to be close to ten years ago when Patterson and Brisco were McMahon’s stooges.

  • packerpf

WWE knew this for years..yet still tried to bury that Pat Patterson allegedly tried to get sexual offers from a former male worker and fired him when he refused.

  • J Vomkrieg

My memory may be failing, but i thought on one of the legends roundtable shows that someone on the panel gave Pat a light hearted ribbing about being gay, just as part of the normal “back and forth” banter on that show. I may be wrong though.
