Could TNA Broadcast Online?, McMahon Purchasing Tape From Carters, Swagger’s Momentum, Team WWF Or Team WCW

Is TNA is unable to find a domestic television partner, what are the chances they look to broadcast online?

If TNA is unable to come to terms on a new agreement with Spike TV and do not have any other suitors for their programming in the United States, it’s certainly possible they explore all of their options and one of those options would probably include broadcasting online. Many independent promotions have gone the iPPV route and have had success. However, if TNA loses domestic TV clearance, they’ll have to operate in a scaled back form. I don’t know what that would look like or if they would even be interested in doing so.

Could you see Vince McMahon buying the TNA Wrestling tape library if they were to go out of business?

I believe it’s extremely premature to assume that TNA is going out of business. Obviously if they lose domestic TV clearance they’ll have a major problem on their hands but until it’s confirmed they’ve lost that clearance, we need to be careful. I re-worded this question because the person that asked it was operating under the assumption they were finished. As for the question itself, I believe Vince McMahon would be interested in the TNA tape library just like he’s been interested in every other library over the years. Why wouldn’t he? He has all of the means to re-master the footage and promote it, however, it’s still a premature question.

I am a fan of Jack Swagger’s patriotic momentum at the moment but what if he loses to Rusev clean, is it over? If Swagger goes over, where will he be booked?

The original plan was for Rusev to make short work of Jack Swagger, nothing short of a glorified squash match. From what I’m told, Vince McMahon was so happy with the way Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter have got over as babyfaces, he made the call to protect Swagger at Battleground and extend the program to SummerSlam. Further, an interesting development to the match at SummerSlam was revealed at this week’s Smackdown taping. You can read about that at this link. As for who goes over at SummerSlam, I feel strongly that Rusev is the favorite. However, the aforementioned development (that we’re not spoiling here), could play a role in protecting the match loser. I don’t think either will be “finished” if they go under given the circumstances. While one can argue Rusev has a higher ceiling (since he’s still “fresh”), Swagger was a guy Vince once saw as a main event talent.

During the Monday Night War were you Team WWF or Team WCW?

This is a fun question to close out the week on! I was actually Team WCW and I would flip to Raw during the commercial breaks. Originally, I was a fan of workers such as Hulk Hogan, Jake Roberts and The Ultimate Warrior [in the WWF] but it was during WCW Saturday Night I started following Ric Flair, Randy Savage and of course Hogan (I believe it was ’94 when my interest in WCW started to really grow). When Scott Hall defected to WCW, my brother and I were hooked. It was an obsession that fueled our passion for the business.

One of our friends and neighbors started a pro wrestling website in the mid-90s located at WrestleNation.com. My brother and I were interested in creating websites and saw him having success, so we launched our own at http://4cw.hypermart.net, which we moved to 4CornersWrestling.com. In 2000, we moved the website to WCWWWF.com and later WrestlingUnlimited.com. In February 2003, we purchased WrestlingNewsWorld.com from a guy named George Patton (he originally founded the website as UltimateWWF.com. From February 2003 to April 2007, the website existed more as a hobby or a blog. In May 2007, when I graduated college, I revamped the website as my full-time occupation. My brother Ryan left in July 2011 to pursue other interests and here I am!

From the Ask WNW vault…

January 2013: How do the superstars refer to one another when the cameras aren’t on? Do they call each other by their legal name, or by their character? - It really just depends on the person. For example, would you even know who I was talking about if I said the name Michael Hickenbottom? Above, I just referenced Pat Patterson (real name Pierre Clermont). I’ve got a funny story to disclose on this question. Four years ago I was conducting some interviews for use on the website. When booking names I would often go through a worker’s agent to get in touch with them. Well, I wanted to be as professional as possible without sounding like a mark so I emailed one agent and asked to book Nick Cvjetkovich (better known as Kizarny or Sinn Bodhi). The agent said when they read the email they thought, who in the hell is Nick Cvjetkovich?

Richard Gray, here are the questions I’ve been sending you:
    1) Could Cesaro become WWE World Heavyweight Champion like, say, next year
    2) The whereabouts of Tomko
    3) If Chris Hero were to join TNA if WWE still won’t hire him back
    4) Low Ki mellowing out on his reportedly bad attitude and ego enough to remain in TNA on a long-term basis.

    • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Richard Gray

He could but they’ve pumped the brakes on Cesaro. The last I heard about Tomko, he was dealing with a personal issue and his issues were far worse than anything in the ring (http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/tomko-still-in-drug-rehab-after-being-caught-injecting-stolen-oxycodone-in-chilis-restaurant/#.U9vdBoBdWVc). TNA was interested in hiring Hero but he was reluctant, hoping to return to WWE at some point. There’s nothing wrong with Low Ki’s attitude, the dude didn’t like the politics and travel in WWE. I’m not sure what his status is with TNA, the last I heard he was being paid on per shots.

      • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Richard Gray

Check that. I believe Low Ki does have a contract or at least that what he’s implied to friends.

        • Uzoma Iwuagwu

I did read that TNA wants Low Ki to not only wrestle but be an agent for the X-Division. The fact that he has a TNA profile in their website indicates that he has signed a contract.

      • Uzoma Iwuagwu

Man, too bad for Cesaro as he won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale at WMXXX and looked to have a major push. Instead, they paired him with Paul Heyman, which looked to be a success but, like RybAxel, isn’t and neglected turning him face based on the reaction he gets, especially for performing his Cesaro Swing. Very tragic/disappointing for Tomko and how his life is messed up now (if it still is or not). For Chris Hero, I’m certain (or was certain) that he still wanted to go back to WWE by refusing to go to TNA but I was asking about Hero going to TNA because it’s now been nine months (almost a year) since he was let go and based on how he is now, it looks even more doubtful WWE will rehire him. For Low Ki, I do know that he won’t go back to WWE like how you answered it but I was asking about his flaws because I’ve read that his time in any promotions he goes to end due to his ego, being difficult to work with, and refusal to put anyone over. I’m really not correcting you as I was just pointing out more.

Hey Richard, can u see tna going to mtv if spike does not renew contract.

        • Gerr Bear

  • K!NG

I was WWF guy through and through, As much as i loved hogan savage and all the big wwf names that where in WCW i was hooked on the new stars that were being pushed in wwf HBK Bret hart hell even Diesel. the funny thing is the guys i liked in WCW Saturn Malenko Benoit Jericho and Guerrero ended up in WWF so by the beginning of 2000 i really had no reason to nitro anymore.

  • David F

I would book Swagger go over Rusev on Summerslam. Since Hogan will be there he can help Swagger get the win and two of them standing tall after match. It would be an epic moment. Plus we just saw Bo losing for first time so it only matter of time for Rusev to lose his first match

  • MadDawg

I was WCW to the core. I was in high school when the Monday Night Wars ended, and I contemplated never watching wrestling again. I’m glad I decided against it. :)

  • jdl

My dream booking for the Rusev-Swagger feud would be for Swagger to go over at Summerslam, then for the final blow off have it occur at Night of Champions. Now, a certain event occurs on the date of Night of Champions. A very important event. What I’d like to see happen at that PPV is for Zeb to come out after the defeat of Swagger, pick up his fallen son and congratulate him for pushing Rusev further than anyone has, then he says that in case this happen Zeb had contacted an old friend. Someone that he knew would be able to rise up, to fight back against the menace that is Rusev. Lana laughs it off, claims no one can defeat Rusev, but Zeb counters with “This man is the greatest patriot in the world!” and then the music hits…

Kurt Angle’s TNA contract expires on the same day Night of Champions airs.

    • David C

I have been saying that Kurt Angle would be the perfect person to come back to take on Rusev. But I’d have him seperate and feud in other areas.

Ideally I’d love to see him turn heel against Daniel Bryan around RR and build a feud through to Wrestlemania 31.

Richard, any chance the website can be fixed for iPad. I tried again today and the website doesn’t load. Not fair to iPad users.

    • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Richard Gray

Still working on it. What iPad are you using?

      • Venom

5.1.1. It’s the only update I can use as it’s the first iPad. The site only shows the logo and that’s it. Rest of page is white. I tried on my iMac but comments section won’t load but I know comment section is a third party.

        • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Richard Gray

The mobile site isn’t going to work on the original iPad (that’s the one I have). There’s not enough memory to support the framework. We’re trying to get it to serve the desktop version but experiencing an issue at the moment.

          • Venom

I just prefer browsing on my iPad instead of phone. The comments section doesn’t work on my iMac which is the latest one.

  • Jason Brown

Where is monday nitro on the wwe network?

    • Jay El Bee

I’m guessing they aren’t going to start adding them until they get to the 9/4/95 episode of Raw.

  • Brandon van Reenen

Not liking the new mobile format at all. Ads everywhere.

    • Jesse Sherwood

Brandon, Richard is currently working on it, and a fix should be done by Monday.

    • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Richard Gray

Yeah, we’ll have the ads off first of next week for Premium Members.
