TNA iMPACT! Results - 05/03/07
Orlando, Florida
Report By: Richard Trionfo of PWInsider.com
TNA iMPACT! Opener:
We start off this week’s show with the revelation that Eric Young’s ‘friend’ was Jeff Jarrett. We see Jarrett hit Traci Brooks with the guitar. We then see footage from Sting’s match with Kurt Angle and the attack by Team Cage. Then we see footage from Sting’s match against Christian Cage for the NWA World Title only to see Kurt Angle interfere in the match to cause a disqualification. We then see Sting hit Angle in the ribs with the baseball bat.
In the arena:
Sting comes to the ring and he has something to say. Kurt Angle is in the ring already and he has a steel chair. Sting blocks the chair shot with the bat and then security comes to the ring to separate the two men.
Backstage:
Jeremy Borash is in the back and he is with the NWA World Heavyweight champion Christian Cage. Jeremy asks Christian for his thoughts on what happened and Christian says that it is pathetic to see two grown men fighting over him. Christian says that they each have a legitimate gripe so he is going to go out to the ring to sort this mess out. He says that he does not claim to be Doctor Phil, but it is simple psychology.
In the arena:
We return to Angle and Sting in the ring and they each have mics. Sting wants to know what Angle’s problem is and Angle says that Christian cost him his title shot last week. Angle says that he had Sting beat and he knows it. Sting says that Angle’s problem is with Christian Cage so he should deal with Christian. Angle says that his problem is not with Christian, it is with Sting. Angle says that all he remembers about last week is Sting standing over him with a baseball bat. Sting says that Angle gave him every reason to use the baseball bat because Angle interfered in his shot at the World Title. Christian Cage comes into the Impact Zone and he wants to know if they can get along. Christian talks about how the way that Sting handed the victory at Lockdown for the title match means that Sting did not really earn it. Christian says that Kurt Angle is an a**hole but he has a point. Sting has a point too because last week Kurt Angle ruined Sting’s small amount of hope to become the NWA World Heavyweight Champion when he got Sting disqualified. Christian wants to be fair and not have any controversy. The way to solve it is simple. Sting and Kurt Angle team up tonight against A.J. Styles and the ‘Instant Classic’ Christian Cage in a no disqualification tag match. If either Sting or Angle gets the pinfall, they will get the shot at the NWA Title at Sacrifice. Christian says that if A.J. or he wins the match then neither of them gets the title match at Sacrifice. Christian wants to know if either of them wants to roll the dice. Sting says that he does not have to roll the dice because he already has a title shot. Angle wants to know if Sting is an icon or a something else. Sting tells Angle that before his mouth overrides his rear end, he accepts the challenge.
Backstage:
Leticia is in the back with Team 3D. Brother Ray says that the legacy has finally been fulfilled and they are twenty time tag team champions. They are the NWA World Tag Team Champions and that is the most important tag title in the history of the world. He says that many people ask them what they are going to do. They are going to defend their titles and have a long title run. He says that at Sacrifice they are going to put their titles on the line in a Three Way Dance against Steiner and Tomko as well as LAX. Tonight, they face Samoa Joe and Rhino. They have worked with Rhino and have been on the other side of the ring and they know that Rhino is a tough son of a you know what. Brother Ray says that they have heard so much about Samoa Joe and look forward to seeing how tough he is. Brother Devon says that they will find out why they are the most decorated tag team and then he tells us to TESTIFY.
Non Title Match
Samoa Joe and Rhino vs. Team 3D (c)
The start:
Rhino and Devon start things off and Rhino with a side head lock and shoulder tackle. Devon with a shoulder tackle and then he tags in Brother Ray. Team 3D with a double back elbow to Rhino and then Ray wants Joe to tag in. Joe with a side head lock and Joe with a kick followed by a snap mare.
Mid-match notes:
Joe with a chop and kick but Brother Ray sits up before Joe can hit the knee drop. Ray with a German suplex but Joe pops up. Joe with a T-Bone suplex but Ray pops back up. Joe with a series of kicks, but Ray with a back heel trip but Brother Ray misses an elbow. Joe fights out of Team 3D’s corner but Devon drops Joe on the top rope and that allows Ray to hit a belly-to-back suplex on Joe for a near fall before Rhino breaks it up.
The Finish:
Devon comes in and he takes Rhino down. Joe with a Samoan drop to Devon but Ray with a uranage. Rhino with a GORE to Ray and then he sets up for another GORE but Christopher Daniels comes into the ring and he hits Rhino with the baseball bat. Daniels hits Devon in the throat with the bat and the referee sees what is going on and he calls for the bell.
Winners - No Contest
The Aftermath:
After the match, Daniels leaves the ring, but Joe puts Daniels in the Choke and then he rolls Daniels back into the ring. Ray with a slam to Daniels and then Devon hits the Wassup head butt on Daniels. All four men stand over Daniels and they tell each other to get the tables. Rhino and Devon get a table from under the ring. Joe with a an enzuigiri and Team 3D prepares for a 3D but Rhino GORES Daniels through the table and all four men celebrate in the ring.
Backstage:
Jeremy Borash is in the back with Christian Cage and A.J. Styles. Christian starts to talk but A.J. takes the mic and he says that he knew that Jeremy would go to Christian first and wants to know why because he has something to say. A.J. tells Christian to stop volunteering him in these matches. He does not want to be in them and he does not feel confident. Christian tells A.J. that when they beat Angle and Sting neither one of them will be the number one contender. Tomko and Steiner are not here and Abyss is dead and buried. That leaves one man and that leaves one phenomenal opportunity. A.J. says that Christian has stolen his hood and now he has found someone else to be phenomenal. Christian says that his hood is like a flap and it gives them a chance to look like a team and match. Christian says that when he talks about phenomenal, he means A.J. Styles. He says that A.J. will be the number one contender. A.J. gingerly hugs Christian and leaves the locker room as we go to commercial.
In the arena:
Robert Roode is in the ring with Traci Brooks and he says that he is not a happy man. He says that he hates Eric’s guts and he will fire Eric tonight. Roode tells Eric to stop wasting time and he tells Eric to come to the ring. Jim Cornette comes into the ring and he tells Roode to listen to him. Cornette says that he told Jeff Jarrett to stay home because he is not going to have men beating up women in TNA even if it was deserved. Cornette says that the only people who should be fired are Roode and his flotation floozy. Cornette says that he has been staying out of this because he did not want the TNA lawyers and Robert Roode’s lawyers to fight it out for five years. Cornette points out that Robert Roode signed Eric Young to a personal services contract while he had a valid TNA contract so Eric Young is in breach of contract. Cornette says that he could sue Eric or fire him. Roode says that he has no problem. Since Roode had Young sign the contract, which means that Roode tampered with the contract and Cornette says that he can sue or fire Roode. Roode tells Cornette to do it. Cornette suggests that everyone drop this thing and leave Eric alone with nobody going to court and nobody being fired. Roode tells Cornette to get out of his face. Roode says that they are smart business men and if Cornette was going to do something, he would have done this already. Roode pushes Cornette and Cornette reminds Roode that he is his boss. Roode pushes Cornette down and then he chokes Cornette. Eric Young comes to the ring, but Roode stops him. Young fights back and he punches Roode. Young goes under the ring and he grabs a guitar before returning to the ring. Roode kicks Young and then hits a DDT. Roode punches and kicks Young. Traci gives Roode the handcuffs and then he locks Young into the corner. Roode grabs the guitar while Traci slaps Eric. Roode tells Young that it pays to be Roode before he drills Young in the head with the guitar. Security comes to the ring to make sure that nothing else happens. Jim Cornette returns to the ring and he asks Roode if he thinks he is tough by knocking him down and attacking a man who is in handcuffs. Cornette says that he is not going to fire Roode, but he will do something a lot worse. At Sacrifice, Robert Roode will face Jeff Jarrett. We go to commercial.
In the arena:
Don and Mike talk about the situation with Abyss and we take a look back at the attack on Abyss. We hear Jim Mitchell say that we saw the most brutal beating two weeks ago and it proved that Abyss was nothing. It was him who made Abyss a champion and a monster. Without Mitchell, Abyss was an insecure and bumbling man-child. What he made, he has destroyed. Mitchell says that it is time to move on to bigger and better things. Abyss has been replaced.
