TNA iMPACT Results - 02/22/2007

Written by Richard Trionfo (PWInsider.com) on Feb 23, 2007 - 4:59:35 PM

If it is Thursday night, it is time to see the next step that Total Nonstop Action Wrestling takes towards the Destination X pay per view on March 11th. We know that Samoa Joe will be the man to face Christian Cage for the NWA World Heavyweight Title, but we will also need to see what other matches will fill out the pay per view. Who will become the number one contender for the X Division Title? What will happen when Team 3D and the Latin American Exchange meet in a Belting Pot Match. What is the next thing that Kevin Nash will do for Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal? Who will be in the Elevation X match? What is a Last Rites Match? What is next for Kurt Angle after not becoming the number one contender? What will Bob Backlund do this week?

We start off this week’s show with a look at the ladder match to determine the number one contender for the X Division Title. We then go to footage from last week when the Elevation X apparatus was unveiled. We also go back to Scott Steiner’s comments and confrontation with Kurt Angle. We end with highlights of Samoa Joe winning the Gauntlet for the Gold to become the number one contender for the NWA World Heavyweight Title.

We are live on tape from Universal Studios in Orlando , Florida and your announcers are Mike ‘TNA’ Tenay and Don ‘you have got to be kidding me’ West.

The Elevation X structure is lowered as we go to the Impact Zone.

A.J. Styles comes to the ring and he climbs the Elevation X structure. A.J. reminds us who he is. He says that he is the most decorated wrestler in TNA history, and he says that he invented the X Division. He says that he made Ultimate X famous and then he says that he is on top of the world. He says that in order to be the greatest, you have to raise the bar and it does not get any higher than this. He says that two men will climb, but there is only room for one at the top. He says that the fans can figure out what will happen to the other. A.J. says that he is going to give someone the opportunity to get famous, because you will never be phenomenal.

Rhino comes out and he climbs the structure while A.J. goes down the other side. Rhino goes to the center of the X and he grabs the mic. He tells A.J. that A.J. ran from him for the very last time. He says that A.J.’s latest invention is going to be responsible for the end of his career. That is because he accepts A.J.’s challenge. Rhino says that Elevation X will be A.J. Styles versus Rhino. He says that he will send A.J. straight to hell. He says that he will risk his own livelihood and career. He vows that he will GORE, GORE, GORE A.J.

We go to the back where Jeremy Borash is with Steve Schirripa and Team 3D. Brother Ray asks LAX if they have ever been in a Belting Pot Match. He says that neither has he. He says that he can count on his brother Devon , but he wonders if LAX can count on each other. He knows that they can count on Cousin Steve. He wonders if LAX can count on the invalid they call a manager, Konnan. He knows that they can count on their Paisans, but wonders if LAX can count on their barrio hood rats. Steve says that when he was a little boy, stick with family and don’t rat out anyone. He says that blood runs deep. Devon testifies.

Match Number One: Latin American Exchange versus Team 3D in a Belting Pot Match

Homicide and Devon start things off and Hernandez distracts Devon and that allows Homicide to punch Devon . Devon with a Lou Thesz Press and punches to Homicide. Homicide charges at Devon , but he is back body dropped to the floor and Homicide is strapped on the floor before Homicide returns to the ring. Devon punches and slams Homicide before hitting an elbow drop for a two count. Devon goes off the ropes, but Hernandez pulls the ropes down and Devon goes to the floor. Devon is strapped before being returned to the ring for Hernandez. Hernandez chokes Devon with a t-shirt. Hernandez with a chop to Devon, but Devon throws Hernandez to the floor where Hernandez is strapped. Homicide hits Devon from behind and then Homicide is tagged in and he hits a clothesline for a two count. Homicide tries for a tornado DDT but Devon tosses Homicide away and hits a flying back elbow. Brother Ray and Hernandez are tagged in. Ray with punches and chops followed by a hip toss. Homicide comes in and he gets a back body drop. Hernandez gets a Samoan Drop from Brother Ray. He throws Homicide outside the ring and there is a standoff on the floor. Brother Ray with a uranage for a two count on Hernandez. Team 3D with a neck breaker and belly-to-back suplex combination but Homicide breaks things up. Hernandez and Devon are thrown outside the ring and then there is pandemonium outside the ring as the ‘lumberjacks’ attack each other. Brother Ray with a slam and Steve Schirripa comes in to help with the Wassup head butt. Devon is told by Brother Ray and Steve to get the tables. Team 3D hits 3D on Hernandez for the three count.

Winners: Team 3D

After the match, Team 3D celebrates with their Paisans.

We go to a video package for Sting and Abyss where we hear Sting’s comments about Abyss’s past. We then see footage from the Prison Yard Match. We go to commercial.

We are back and Sting is on his ‘death bed’. He asks what does it feel like to die. He says that it is a choice. You can choose darkness and finality or you can choose life and a clean slate as a new man. In order to be a new man, you have to die first. Sting says that he believes in Abyss and he says that life as Abyss knows it will change drastically. At Destination X, when he straps Abyss into his ‘death bed’ and raises him to the heavens above, Abyss will have to make a decision on how to live on this side of eternity. Will he choose darkness, weeping, gnashing of teeth, finality, and maggots; or will he choose life and be a new man. He says that the choice is Abyss’s and his alone because he does not have the devil in his ear any longer.

We return to the Impact Zone and Jeremy Borash is with Abyss. He says that he is going to try to get Abyss’s reaction. Borash points out that Jim Mitchell is not around. He asks Abyss if he heard Sting’s comments, but Abyss does not answer. He asks Abyss where Jim Mitchell is. Jeremy says that Sting’s comments resonated deeply with Abyss. Abyss grabs Borash by the throat and holds him against the cage wall before dropping Jeremy.

Match Number Two: Robert Roode (with Ms. Brooks), Eric Young, and James Storm (with Jackie Moore) versus the Voodoo Kin Mafia and Lance Hoyt

Young and BG James start things off. Young and BG lock up and then they do the worm. BG punches Storm and then he helps with a double clothesline. Roode slaps Young and tells him to leave the ring. BG with punches to Roode but Storm with a punch to James from the apron. Roode with a short arm clothesline to James and then he kicks James. Storm tags in and he hits a double underhook slam and then he punches Kip and Hoyt on the apron. Hoyt tags in and he hits a flapjack on Storm. Hoyt goes up top, but Roode crotches Hoyt and then Storm gets the three count.

Winners: Robert Roode, James Storm, and Eric Young

After the match, Chris Harris comes to the ring through the crowd and he chases James Storm to the back.

We go to the latest Christopher Daniels video package. Daniels says that to say that time changes things, but you have to change things yourself. That change has to come from within. He has taken time to look inside and he finally realized that the important thing is that he can sacrifice what he is for what he will become.

Don West is in the ring with Andre Rison to talk about Pro vs. Joes. Andre was asked what it was like to be on the show. Andre thanks Spike for having the show and thanks TNA for having him on the show. Don asks Andre about some of the other pros on the show, but they are interrupted by Abyss who comes to the ring. Don wants to know why Abyss is in the ring. He asks Abyss if he wants to say something. Andre offers his hand to Abyss and Abyss with a black hole slam to Rison. We go to commercial.

We are back with the latest Ron Killings ‘movie project’ and this time it is Rambuck.

Don and Mike are at the announce table and they talk about how out of control Abyss is. We see footage of the black hole slam to Andre Rison. Mike talks about the ladder match to see who faces Chris Sabin at Destination X. Mike also tells us that it is time for the latest from Paparazzi Productions.

We go to the latest edition of Paparazzi Idol. Kevin wants to hear more from Jay. Jay does some more Randy Savage for the ‘judges’. Kevin tells Jay that the white people are holding him down. Jay tells Kevin that he is white, and Kevin denies that. He tells Jay to use the race card because he has been doing it for his whole life. Jay and Sonjay leave.

Mike Tenay and Jim Cornette are in the ring and it is time for the contract signing. First, Jim Cornette makes a few other announcements for Destination X. He talks about the Elevation X match between Rhino and A.J. Styles; the Last Rites match between Sting and Abyss; and the NWA World Heavyweight Title match between Christian Cage and Samoa Joe. Jim says that it is time to have a contract signing between two of the biggest names in the industry. Mike introduces the first participant, Scott Steiner. Mike brings out Steiner’s opponent at Destination X, Kurt Angle. Cornette says that emotion is running high, but they wanted a public execution for the contract. He says that he wants them to act with some decorum and remain gentlemen while they sign the contract. Cornette says that this is the official execution of the instrument. Steiner takes Cornette’s mic. He says that after he beats Angle at Destination X, he is going to take Angle’s medal, melt it down, and find out how much he can get for it. He doubts that he could buy a cup of coffee with it. Angle tells Steiner that he is going to make it simple so even a stupid dumbass like him can understand. His reasons for coming to this company were not selfish, like Steiner. He came to this company to make it bigger and better. He says that Steiner came here to rape this company for all he could. Angle restates that he would face Steiner for free, but Steiner would not do it. He says that he will make an example of Scott Steiner. He is going to show the fans that this business does not need whining, complaining, money-hungry bitches like Steiner. Steiner gets up, but Angle says that he is not done. He tells Steiner to make as much money as he can in this match because it could be Steiner’s final match. Angle and Steiner sign the contract. Angle tosses the table to the side and they get face to face and Steiner with a head butt. A bloody Kurt Angle takes Steiner down and punches him. Tomko comes to the ring and Angle with European uppercuts. Christian comes to the ring and he has Steiner and Tomko help him work over Angle. Steiner with a belly-to-belly suplex. Christian hits Angle in the head with the title belt. Steiner shoves the contract down Angle’s throat as Steiner stands over him. We go to commercial.

We are back and Mike talks about the unpredictable Scott Steiner and the mark he left on Kurt Angle. We see footage from moments ago.

We go to comments from Samoa Joe who says what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. What tortures you for three matches and stretches you beyond your limits has a tendency to temper you beyond steel. He came out with a lot after his matches with Kurt. He was aware of a few limitations, but he also learned that he could get past a few limitations from the past. Joe tells Christian that he leaves it up to him because he has been tempered. For twenty months, he has been denied and put to the side. They can ignore him no more. At Destination X, Christian will learn why he is Samoa Joe and why he is known as the Samoan Submission Machine. He says that Christian will be broken.

Match Number Three: Senshi versus Jay Lethal versus Austin Starr versus Sonjay Dutt versus Jerry Lynn in a ladder match to determine the number one contender for the X Division Title

Lethal and Dutt go after Lynn while Senshi and Starr fight outside the ring. Dutt and Lethal with a leg drop and senton combination to Lynn . Dutt sends the ladder into Lynn in the corner and then Dutt climbs the ladder and hits a drop kick in the corner. Dutt and Lethal with a double baseball slide to Starr and Senshi followed by a double pescado. We see Bob Backlund come out as we go to commercial.

We are back and Senshi kicks Lynn and then Senshi tries for the Tidal Crush, but Lynn catches Senshi and tries for a powerbomb but Senshi with elbows and Lynn goes down. Senshi leaps onto Lynn ’s chest with a double stomp. Starr with a clothesline to Senshi followed by a drop kick to Lethal in the corner using the ladder for extra impact. Starr sets up a ladder in the center of the ring, but so do Senshi and Lynn. All five men climb the ladders, but Dutt and Lethal pull Lynn off. Lethal and Senshi exchange punches on the top of the ladder while Dutt punches Starr. Lynn with a power bomb to take Dutt and Lethal off. Senshi and Starr chop each other. Lynn pushes Starr and Senshi off the ladders and Lynn grabs the X to win the match.

Winner: Jerry Lynn

After the match, Bob Backlund comes into the ring and he shakes Lynn ’s hand. Starr pushes Lynn out of the way and he gets in Backlund’s face. Backlund offers his hand to Starr. Starr won’t have anything to do with Backlund. Starr attacks Backlund from behind, but Backlund puts Starr in the chicken wing and crossface as they go outside the ring.

We end the show with footage of Kurt Angle getting stitched up after the attack by Steiner, Christian, and Tomko. We go to credits.
