Written by Richard Trionfo (PWInsider.com) on Mar 2, 2007 - 6:34:33 PM
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling moves one show closer to the Destination X pay per view which will feature Samoa Joe’s first attempt to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title. Tonight, Joe will have to get through Tomko as he prepares for his match against Christian Cage on the 11th. Will Christian do anything to derail Joe’s road to the title? What is next for Scott Steiner and Kurt Angle as they also prepare for their match? Who is the subject for the latest Paparazzi Productions project? Will we hear from the participants in the Elevation X match? What will Bob Backlund do this week? Will we get any new matches announced for the pay per view? Will we see any poles on this week’s show?
We start off tonight’s show with Jeremy Borash in the interview area with Christian Cage and Tomko. Jeremy mentions that Christian will be defending the NWA World Title against Joe, but Joe wants to face Tomko this week. Christian says that Joe has put himself in a bad spot and Joe is not smart enough to realize it. Christian tells Tomko that he has a chance to put Joe out of the match at the pay per view. Christian says that it is the start of a beautiful night. With Steiner preoccupied with Angle, it feels like good times with a couple of bros hanging out. Christian says it is like a father and his kid. Christian suggests that they catch a baseball game and get a few Dodger Dogs. Christian tells Tomko to take care of Joe for ‘our team’. Tomko points out that the ‘team’ is not out there, it is just him. Christian tells Tomko that he will be there in spirit. Tomko then asks Christian what is in it for him. He wants to know how he benefits by taking out Joe. Christian scolds his ‘son’ for his tone and he says that he does not like it. Christian wants to know if he wants some sort of incentive. He says that if Tomko beats Joe and takes him out, he will give Tomko a shot at the NWA Title. Tomko likes what he heard and he shakes Christian’s hand before leaving. Christian says that Tomko is selfish and then he wonders where Tomko got that from.
We hear comments from last week from A.J. Styles and Rhino about the Elevation X match; from Sting about the Last Rites match; and from Scott Steiner and Kurt Angle about their match at Destination X.
We are live on tape from Universal Studios in Orlando , Florida and your announcers are Mike ‘TNA’ Tenay and Don ‘you have got to be kidding me’ West.
The Elevation X structure has been lowered inside the Impact Zone.
We go to footage from before the show when Scott Steiner and Kurt Angle battled into the Impact Zone. Security separates them and Jim Cornette gets between them.
We go to Jim Cornette’s office and he is telling Kurt Angle that he will get his hands on Scott Steiner at the pay per view so jumping him in the hallway is uncalled for. Angle wonders if what Steiner did to him last week was uncalled for. Cornette agrees with Angle about that, but Angle says that he cannot be in the same building as Steiner without wanting to hurt him. Cornette tells Angle that he will have to lay off Steiner. Angle grabs Cornette and Cornette tells Angle not to grab him like he is some jabronie flunkie. Cornette tells Angle that he is Angle’s best friend here so Angle better not screw up his television program. Angle tells Cornette to do what he has to do because he will do what he has to do and leaves.
Before our first match, Alex Shelley delivers to Don and Mike the latest release from Paparazzi Productions.
Match Number One: Chris Sabin, Austin Starr, and Alex Shelley versus Jerry Lynn, Senshi, and Jay Lethal
Before the match starts we see Sabin, Starr, and Shelley on the floor discussing strategy and Sabin wants everyone to do chest bumps before they get into the ring for the match.
Kevin Nash and Sonjay Dutt come to ringside and Nash has a mic with him. He is talking to Lethal and asking him to do the Randy Savage impression. Lethal agrees to do the Randy Savage impression.
Apparently his opponents are not fans of the Macho Man or impressions because they attack Lethal, Senshi, and Lynn as the match begins. All six men battle in the ring. Shelley with a head butt to Lethal while Starr and Sabin fall victim to drop kicks from Lynn and Senshi. Starr and Sabin go outside the ring to regroup and Alex Shelley is back body dropped to the floor by Senshi onto Starr and Sabin. Senshi and Lynn with pescados while Lethal with a suicide dive. Bob Backlund comes out and we go to commercial.
We are back and Bob Backlund joins Don and Mike at the announce table as Starr covers Lethal and gets a two count. Starr puts Lethal on the turnbuckles and connects with a back rake and gets a two count. Starr slams Lethal’s head into the boots of Shelley and Sabin before tagging in Sabin. Sabin with jabs to Lethal and then he punches Lynn to get the referee distracted. Shelley with a reverse atomic drop to Lethal followed by a drop kick from Sabin to Lethal’s knee. Shelley with a bridge as he holds Lethal’s head up for a baseball slide drop kick to the head from Sabin. Shelley with a single boot cover for a two count. Starr and Sabin hold Lethal in the corner while Shelley hits a drop kick that jams Lethal’s head into the turnbuckle. Shelley gets a two count. Shelley slams Lethal’s head into the turnbuckle. Sabin tags in and they Irish whip Lethal into the corner. Lethal avoids a charge from Shelley and then he gets a boot up for Sabin. Lethal with a kick that sends Sabin to the mat. Shelley goes to the second turnbuckle and Lethal sends Shelley onto Sabin with a senton splash. Lethal is able to tag in Senshi while Starr is tagged in as well. Senshi with chops to Starr and Lynn punches Starr as well. Senshi with a flying clothesline that takes Starr down. Shelley comes in and he gets a back kick for his interference. Senshi with a kick to the back of the head. Senshi lines up Starr and kicks him twice. Sabin blocks a third kick that Senshi was going to give to Starr and Sabin gets Senshi up for the Cradle Shock and hits it. Lynn with a drop kick to Sabin and then Lynn with a TKO to Sabin. Lynn sets for the Cradle Piledriver, but Shelley with an enzuigiri to stop Lynn . Shelley with Sliced Bread #2 on Lynn and then he tries the same on Lethal, but Lethal pushes Shelley out of the hold. On the floor, Backlund checks on Senshi while the action continues in the ring. Lethal with a back breaker into a Flatline DDT. Starr with a brainbuster to Lethal and then he sees Backlund on the floor and yells at Backlund. Backlund grabs Starr’s foot and the referee does nothing about it. Senshi with a rollup and bridge for the three count.
Winners: Jerry Lynn, Senshi, and Jay Lethal
After the match, Bob Backlund takes off his jacket and he goes into the ring to confront Austin Starr. Starr slaps Backlund and then Backlund tries to get Starr in the crossface chicken wing and Starr escapes the hold and gets out of the ring. Back in the ring, Senshi enters the ring and Backlund offers his hand. Senshi bows to Backlund and they leave the ring with Backlund bowing to Senshi.
We go to a segment called ‘A Day in the Life of . . . Eric Young’. We see Eric checking into his hotel and when he gets to the room, Traci Brooks opens the door and yells at him wondering where he has been. Eric says that he was getting the bags, but Traci tells him that Robert has been waiting for him. Roode shows Eric his tasks for the day. We see Eric vacuuming the floor after some popcorn has been dropped on it by Roode. Eric says that he does not want to do this because his friend told him that he does not have to do it. Roode reminds Eric of the contract that he signed. Roode reminds Eric that he owns him and tells him to get back to work.
We are back in the Impact Zone. Mike Tenay talks about the text situation for the fans to vote for who they think will take the plunge in the Elevation X match.
We see a video package with Rhino talking about how they will be two stories above the ground during the Elevation X match. While Rhino is talking, we see watermelons being dropped and exploding as they hit the ground. He says that A.J. started it, but he will finish it. It might be A.J.’s creation, but it will be his demise. There is only one place to go and that is down. He wonders if A.J. is afraid when he is up there or if he feels fear. Rhino says that he does not care if he has to sacrifice his own life because he will destroy A.J. His creation will be his end. Rhino says that he will take A.J. off the Elevation X with a gore. We go to commercial.
We are back with a video package for the Last Rites Match. There is a casket in the ring on the apparatus that will lift the loser of the match ‘to the heavens’. Sting says darkness or light, life or death. It all depends on how you look at it. He wonders how Abyss sees it. It is a question that Abyss only has a few days to ponder because at Destination X, Abyss will die. The question is how Abyss will choose to die. He tells Abyss not to choose the garden party six feet under with maggots eating away at your decaying flesh. Choose the light. A new life, a new slate, a new man, a rebirth. The choice is Abyss’s to make.
We go to the back where Jeremy Borash is trying to get comments from Abyss. Jeremy says that he will not get any closer to Abyss. He says that Abyss is looking at a picture of James Mitchell. Abyss grabs the sound guy and chokes him against the wall.
Match Number Two: Chase Stevens versus Scott Steiner
As Steiner walks to the ring, he is attacked from behind by Kurt Angle. Angle kicks Steiner and some of the wrestlers come from the back to separate Angle and Steiner. Angle is held back and Jim Cornette comes to the ringside area. Angle tries to get into the ring, but Angle is held back.
The bell rings after Steiner hits Stevens in the back with a forearm. Steiner puts Stevens on the top turnbuckle and then he goes up for an overhead belly-to-belly suplex for the three count.
Winner: Scott Steiner
After the match, Steiner gets on the mic and he tells Kurt Angle that the last time they were in the ring; he left Angle lying in a pool of his own blood. Steiner says that he embarrassed Angle in front of all of his redneck fans, his friends, and his family. Steiner says that after the beating he gave Angle, when Angle went home and got in bed, his wife told Angle that he was half the man. Steiner tells Angle that on his best day . . . Before Steiner could finish, Angle attacks Steiner. Security and other wrestlers try to separate them. Angle is held in the ring while Steiner is on the floor. Jim Cornette wants to know if Kurt Angle lost his mind. He tells Angle that this show does not revolve around him. He tells Angle that he cannot do that. Angle grabs Cornette and tries to put him in the ankle lock, but they are separated. Cornette takes off his jacket and he wonders why Angle wants to try to break his ankle, because he is his best friend since everyone else wants to cut his balls off to get his spot. Cornette says that he watches out for Angle because he knows that Angle means box office. Cornette tells security and the referees to get Angle out of his building. We go to commercial.
We are back with Don and Mike where they talk about Jim Cornette’s decision to kick Angle out of the Impact Zone. We see footage during the break when Angle refused to leave the building and he was confronted by head of security, Don Harris.
We go to an interview that Leticia did with Chris Harris to get an update on his condition. Chris says that he is at 35 percent vision in his injured eye and the doctors do not know if he will be able to see fully again. He is not cleared to wrestle by his doctors so TNA will not clear him to wrestle. He tells James Storm that he has learned to look over his shoulder wherever he goes. It might not happen in a TNA, it might happen in the parking lot. He promises that he will get James Storm.
We return to the Impact Zone and Alex Shelley comes to the ring and he has a mic with him. From the same man who brought such great hits as ‘Abyss’s Invasion of Christian’s Home’ and ‘The Return of Sting’ he brings us ‘Massacre in Nueva York’. He translates for the bilingually impaired. He says that it is too late for this year’s Oscars but he thinks it will make it next year. We go to Johnny Rodz’s gym where Homicide confronts Johnny and attacks him. Homicide says that he cannot believe that he trained Devon . Hernandez hits Rodz in the back with a weight bench.
Alex asks the fans what they think of the film. Alex says that he is going to bring out the cast of his film. Alex is interrupted by Brother Ray who walks to the ring. Alex says that it was not what it appeared to be and it is a pastime of his because he went to art school for years. Brother Ray tells Alex that he has two seconds to shut his mouth or he will throw up on his face, kick his teeth in, and put his ass through a table. Brother Ray wipes the mascara off Alex’s face before continuing. He says that the video made him sick. Alex tries to respond, but Brother Ray knocks the mic out of his hand. Brother Ray says that Johnny Rodz was like a father to Devon . It is bad enough that LAX put his uncle’s head in an oven, but Johnny is sixty-five years old. He says that Johnny is a legend in the wrestling industry. He asks Alex where he is in the wrestling industry and then says that Alex is a nobody. He wonders why Alex would hold the camera while LAX was going after Brother Ray’s uncle and Johnny Rodz. Brother Ray wants to know why they have heat. Alex says that he can see that Brother Ray is mad so he wants to apologize. He says that it was not his idea. Brother Ray says that he is at a loss for words. He says that Alex is a shining star in the business and has a bright future ahead of him. Brother Ray wants to know why Alex would do that and stand there.
Kevin Nash comes to the ring. Brother Ray tells Kevin that it has nothing to do with them. It has to do with him and Kevin’s little butt buddy. This distraction allows Homicide and Hernandez to attack Brother Ray from behind. Brother Ray fights them off with punches. Homicide kicks Brother Ray but Brother Ray moves out of the way when Hernandez tries to clothesline him and accidentally clotheslines Homicide. Brother Ray with a German suplex to Hernandez. Shelley with a low blow to Brother Ray and that allows Homicide and Hernandez to attack Brother Ray. We cut to Konnan on the ramp and he tells Homicide and Hernandez to ‘get the table’. Hernandez brings a table into the ring and it is set up. Homicide hits Brother Ray in the head with the slapjack and then Hernandez with a spinebuster through the table. We go to commercial.
We are back with a graphic that reads that Ron Killings was seriously injured during the filming of Rambuck so production has been shut down.
Jeremy Borash is in the interview area and he talks about the Elevation X match and reminds us about the text poll for who people think will fall off the structure.
Jeremy also talks about the World Title match between Christian and his guest, Samoa Joe. Joe says that what man fears more than the unknown is the inevitable. He says that the inevitable is staring at him through the camera. All of his hard work, pain, suffering, and sacrifice culminates at Destination X when he takes the title from him. He is not going to deal with fate and tonight, he will take care of the numbers game when he deals with Tomko. Joe tells Tomko that the son pays for the sins of the father. There is a ruckus near the interview area and we see Abyss attacking a photographer. Joe pulls Abyss off and he wants to know what this is about. He wants to know what Jim Mitchell did for Abyss. He tells Abyss that he can be a puppet or accept what you are and get over it. Joe tells Abyss that maybe he should listen to Sting and stand up for himself.
