TNA iMPACT! Results - 04/26/2007

TNA iMPACT! Opener:
We start off this week’s show with a look back at Jeff Jarrett’s interview with Mike Tenay and he talks about giving back. Then we hear Kurt Angle and Sting’s comments to set up their match tonight for the title shot against Christian Cage at Sacrifice. We also hear Robert Roode give Eric Young an ultimatum about naming his friend. We move on to Christian Cage telling Abyss that they would face Team 3D for the tag titles only to be defeated. We then see Abyss being attacked by Christian Cage, Scott Steiner, Tomko, and A.J. Styles.
Number One Contender Match
Sting vs. Kurt Angle
The start:
Sting with a side head lock and Angle with a top wrist lock into a hammer lock. Sting with an elbow to get out of the hold followed by a number of Irish whips into the turnbuckles and Sting hits the Stinger Splash and then he tries for the Scorpion Death Lock after a kick to the legs but Angle counters with an ankle lock attempt and Sting rolls outside the ring. Sting returns to the ring and Angle with a kick and elbow followed by a European uppercut. Sting with a clothesline and then he stomps on Angle’s hand. Sting with a series of kicks.
The Finish:
Angle with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex to Sting and then he throws Sting out of the ring. Sting pulls Angle out of the ring and then Angle is sent into the guardrails. They fight into the crowd and Angle Irish whips Sting into the wall of the bleachers before they fight back into the ringside area. From out of nowhere, Christian Cage, Tomko, Scott Steiner, and A.J. Styles come to ringside and they attack Sting and Angle. The referee calls for the bell.
Winner - No Contest
The Aftermath:
After the match, Christian sends Angle into the ring steps while Steiner sends Sting into the ring post. Steiner gets a steel chair and he hits Sting in the midsection with it while Tomko holds Sting. Angle is rolled into the ring and Tomko and Styles continue the attack on Angle. Steiner has Sting in the Steiner Recliner while Christian joins Tomko and Styles in the ring with Angle. Christian has a chair with him and he hits Angle in the head with it. Styles and Tomko hold Angle against the turnbuckles while Christian hits Angle in the back. Christian with an Impaler DDT onto a steel chair. Sting comes into the ring with a chair and Team Cage leaves the ring and they head to the back. Sting throws the chair at Christian Cage on the Ramp of Heelish Impact. We go to commercial.
In the arena:
Mike tells us that Don has been summoned for a phone call from TNA Management as we see a ‘moments ago moment’ of the attack on Kurt Angle by Team Cage.
Backstage:
Jeremy Borash is with Christian Cage and the members of Team Cage. Jeremy suggests that it was Christian’s goal to eliminate Kurt Angle from the World Title situation and that goal was accomplished. Christian mocks Jeremy’s question and says that last week Abyss was the victim. This week it was Kurt Angle. He talks about how he is sick of people like Kurt Angle trying to buck the system and cut into line when there are other people who have earned their title shots. Christian mentions people like Shark Boy and Sonjay Dutt. A.J. interrupts and asks Christian if he deserves a title shot. Christian says that he will talk to A.J. about that later. Christian says that he has already beaten Kurt Angle and there are no more second chances. Christian says that it will be a one-on-one match at Sacrifice against Sting. Christian mentions that Cornette put one over on him before with the stipulation at Lockdown so Sting is getting his second chance. After he beats Sting at Sacrifice, there will be no third chance. Christian reminds Steiner and Tomko that they will be facing Team 3D for the tag team titles tonight. Christian tells them to bring it back to Team Cage. Don West enters the locker room and he tells Christian that during the commercial break Jim Cornette called and Cornette said that Christian will be defending his title against Sting, but it will not be happening at Sacrifice. It will be happening tonight on Impact. Don tells Christian that if any member of Team Cage interferes, Christian will be disqualified and he will lose the title.
Sabin Suicide Stampede Match
Winner Gets X Division Title Match
Petey Williams and Jerry Lynn vs. Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal vs.
Alex Shelley and Kaz vs. Senshi and Shark Boy
The start:
Shark Boy and Kaz start things off and Shark Boy with a side head lock and hammer lock, but Kaz with an elbow and enzuigiri. Kaz misses a springboard leg drop and with Kaz’s rear end weakened, that allows Shark Boy to take a bite out of Kaz. Meanwhile, Chris Sabin comes to ringside and watches the match. Petey Williams is tagged in and he hits a slingshot gutbuster on Kaz and then he sets up for the Canadian Destroyer but Alex Shelley rolls in and spits water in Williams’s face.
Mid-match notes:
Williams goes after Shelley and grabs him by the head and Shelley asks the referee if that is a tag and the ref tells him that it is a legal tag. Shelley rolls in and then he tells Kaz to lie down so Shelley can get the three count. Everyone realizes what is going on and they break up the cover. Shelley slaps Dutt and the ref says that is a tag. Dutt with a slingshot head scissors to Kaz followed by an STO neckbreaker on Shelley. Dutt with a face buster and neck breaker to Kaz followed by a springboard moonsault for a two count on Kaz after Shelley pokes Dutt in the eyes.
Dutt with a sunset flip on Shelley but Shelley rolls through and he kicks Dutt in the head. Williams comes in and Shelley catches Williams but when he tries to slam Williams, Petey counters and hits a side Russian leg sweep. Williams works on the arm and Senshi comes in and he hits a back kick. Lethal comes in and he avoids a clothesline and hits a suicide dive on Shelley on the floor. Kaz with a missile drop kick on Senshi. Shark Boy comes in and he hits a jawbreaker on Kaz. Jerry Lynn sneaks into the ring and he bits Shark Boy in the rear end. Lynn with a TKO to Shark Boy.
The Finish:
Kaz sends Lynn to the apron and then Lynn tries for a slingshot move and hits a leg drop on Kaz and Lynn goes to the floor. Senshi with a double jump cross body onto everyone on the floor. Meanwhile, back in the ring, Dutt hits an Asai DDT on Kaz and Lethal with the elbow drop from the top turnbuckle for the three count.
Winners - Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal
The Aftermath:
After the match, Lethal celebrates in the ring while Dutt yells at Lethal. Kevin Nash comes to the ring and he raises Lethal’s hand. Dutt leaves the ring.
Backstage:
We go to Jeremy Borash in the back and he has an update on Kurt Angle. Borash says that Angle has suffered neck trauma. Jeremy has Sting with him and he asks Sting if he thought he would be facing Christian for the World Title tonight. Sting says that last week he and Kurt Angle did not see eye to eye. This week they were here to settle it man to man. Sting says that he did not want to get his title shot this way, but he will not walk away from it. Tonight it will be one-on-one because if any of Christian’s puppets interfere the title will be his. Sting says that he knows what Christian is thinking. It is Sting, the aging veteran versus Christian Cage, the champion in his prime. He says that it does not matter what is on the outside, it is what is on the inside. Sting says that it is Showtime. We go to commercial.
In the arena:
Robert Roode is in the ring with Traci Brooks and he says that he wants the answer from Eric Young. He says that he wants to know who Eric Young’s ‘friend’ is. Eric Young comes to the ring. Roode tells Eric that his time is up and he wants to know who the friend is. Eric gets on the mic and he tells Roode that he has everything. He has money, power, fame, and the girl. He says that Roode has the skill to accomplish anything in wrestling. Eric says that all he has is wrestling and Roode is trying to take that away from him. Eric says that the only thing more important to him than his friends, family, and career is his reputation and his word. Eric says that his ‘friend’ has been there for him through thick and thin over the last few months. Eric says that his ‘friend’ was there to give him advice and he has listened to everything that his ‘friend’ told him. Eric says that there are times when you have to fight your own battles no matter the consequences. Eric tells Bob that he can fire him and take away the thing that he loves the most, but his word will never be broken. Roode wants to know where Eric is going. Roode tells Eric that it almost made him cry. He says that he does not give a crap about Eric’s pathetic past. Roode tells Eric that he is there tonight to tell him who his friend is. Roode slaps Young and Young gets in Roode’s face. Roode slaps him again while Traci laughs at Eric. Roode says that Eric will not hit him because he owns Eric and says that Eric is gutless and pathetic like everyone in the Impact Zone. Eric punches Roode and then he punches him in the corner. Traci grabs Eric and slaps him. Eric kicks Traci and then he hits a jackknife power bomb. Young punches Roode but Traci with a low blow to Young and that allows Roode the chance to punch Young. Roode brings in a chair and he hits Eric in the head with the steel chair. Roode grabs handcuffs from Traci and he cuffs a bloody Eric Young. Roode tells Young that he has three seconds to give him the answer or he will scramble Eric’s brains from here to Calgary . The count gets to three and Jeff Jarrett’s music plays. Jeff comes to the ring and he avoids a chair shot from Roode before kicking Roode in the groin. Jarrett punches Roode and then he hits a back body drop before throwing Roode over the top rope to the floor. Traci tries to give Jarrett a low blow, but Jarrett blocks it. Jarrett grabs the guitar and he hits Traci in the head with the guitar. Jarrett checks on Roode as we go to commercial.
In the arena:
We are back and LAX has joined Don and Mike at the announce table for the tag title match. Before we get to the match, we see a Moments Ago Moment of the revelation that Jeff Jarrett is Eric Young’s friend. Don talks about the NWA World Title match.
Backstage:
Jeremy Borash is in the back with Scott Steiner and Tomko. Jeremy says that they can get out of the shadow of Christian Cage, but Steiner interrupts Borash and he says that he is most decorated athlete to enter the squared circle so he walks in nobody’s shadow. Steiner then flexes for Borash and says that he is now standing in someone’s shadow. Steiner calls Tomko stupid and then tells Tomko that he is one of the most decorated tag teams of all time. He beat everybody that there was to beat when he was part of the Steiner Brothers. Steiner tells Tomko that all he needs to do is dot his ‘t’s’ and cross his ‘I’s’ and step back so Tomko can see what needs to be done. Tomko asks Jeremy if he just heard Steiner say ‘dot his ‘t’s’ and cross his ‘I’s’’ and Borash says that he heard it too. Tomko calls Steiner and idiot before leaving.
NWA Tag Team Championship Match
Christian Cage and Abyss vs. Team 3D (c)
The start:
Tomko and Devon start things off and they exchange punches and forearms with Tomko getting the advantage. Team 3D with a double flapjack for a two count. Ray with a chop and punch before an Irish whip to Tomko and a splash in the corner. Tomko with a boot to Ray and then he tags in Steiner.
Mid-match notes:
Steiner with a kick to Ray followed by chops Ray with a reverse atomic drop followed a series of punches and a BubbaBomb for a two count. While Ray chops Steiner in the corner we see Hector Guerrero watching the match in the Impact Zone. Steiner with a kick to Ray followed by a T-Bone suplex. Steiner knocks Devon off the apron and then he tags in Tomko. Tomko and Ray each with clotheslines and both men are down. Devon tags in and he punches Tomko and hits a flying shoulder tackle. Steiner comes in and he gets a neck breaker from Devon . Devon with a neck breaker to Tomko as well and then he gives Steiner a clothesline. Devon with a power slam to Tomko but Steiner breaks up the cover. Ray sends Steiner out of the ring to the floor and then he slams Tomko to set up for the Wassup head butt but Steiner pushes Devon off the top turnbuckle. Steiner punches Ray while Homicide and Hernandez go to ringside.
The Finish:
Ray with an Irish whip to Tomko and Hernandez pulls down the top rope and Tomko goes to the floor. Tomko punches Hernandez before returning to the ring. Homicide comes off the turnbuckle and he tries for a rana but Tomko catches him and tosses Homicide to the mat. Team 3D with a belly-to-back and neck breaker combination for the three count on Tomko.
Winners and still NWA Tag Team Champions, Team 3D
The Aftermath:
After the match, Homicide and Hernandez enter the ring and Tomko and Steiner punch Homicide and Hernandez and the members of LAX leave the ring. We go to commercial.
Paparazzi Productions:
We are back and it is time for the latest Paparazzi Production. Alex calls this ‘Walk of the Backlund’ as he catches up to Backlund on a local Orlando road. Alex asks Bob if he remembers losing to Alex’s friend Kevin Nash in nine seconds. Bob says that he remembers that. Alex says that he bets he can beat Bob in nine seconds. Bob tells Alex to ask Kevin if he can beat him in nine seconds again. Alex tells Bob to pick up a penny. We see Bob pick up some trash and then he picks up the X Division Title belt. Bob wonders why the belt was in the bushes and then we see Chris Sabin enter the scene from behind. We are told that it continues next week and we will see Backlund and Sabin battle on the grass in Orlando.
Backstage:
Jeremy Borash is in the back and he is with Christian Cage, but he has an update on Kurt Angle. Jeremy says that Kurt’s neck has been stabilized but he might have suffered a concussion. Christian tells Jeremy to shut up and says that Jeremy is breaking his heart because Angle does not matter. Christian says that he was not supposed to face Sting until Sacrifice, but Cornette is screwing with him again. Christian brings up the stipulation that Team Cage cannot come to the ring with him, but Christian says that he does not need any help and he did not need any interference to win the title. Christian says that everyone knows Sting’s credentials and that Sting won the title at Bound for Glory. Christian says that he is the real deal and he is the champion. It does not matter if it is tonight or at Sacrifice, he will keep the title.
NWA Heavyweight Title Match
Sting vs. Christian Cage (c)
The start:
Sting attacks Christian on the Ramp of Heelish Impact and they battle to the ring with Sting choking Christian with Christian’s pants. Sting sends Christian into the guardrails while still choking him. Sting sends Christian into the other part of the guardrails before entering the ring. Sting with a hard Irish whip and then he hits a Vader Splash for a near fall. Christian with a punch and goes up top but Christian is pushed off the top turnbuckle by Sting. We go to commercial.
Mid-match notes:
We are back and Christian punches Sting and then he chokes Sting with his boot. We go to footage from the commercial and we see Sting hitting a suplex on the Ramp of Facial Impact but when the action returned to the ring, Christian hit a neck breaker. Back to live on tape action and Christian tries for a diving head butt from the top turnbuckle and he misses it. Christian punches and chops Sting but they have no effect on the challenger. Sting punches Christian followed by a back body drop. Christian with a kick but Sting press slams Christian.
The Finish:
Sting with a Stinger Splash and then he tries for another one but Christian moves out of the way. Christian tries for the Unprettier but Sting counters with a Scorpion Death Drop for a two count. Sting hits a superplex and both men are down. Kurt Angle comes to the ring and he pushes the referee and punches Christian. The referee calls for the bell.
Winner by disqualification and still NWA Champion, Christian Cage
The Aftermath:
After the match, Angle with the Angle slam to Cage and then the straps come down. Tomko, Scott Steiner, and A.J. Styles come to ringside to take Christian to the back. Angle has the bat but Sting takes it from Angle and then Sting jabs Angle in the ribs with the bat. We go to credits.
