TNA iMPACT! Results - 05/24/07
Orlando, Florida
Report By: Richard Trionfo of PWInsider.com
TNA iMPACT! Opener:
We begin tonight’s show with Jim Cornette’s announcement of the King of the Mountain match to determine the new TNA Heavyweight Champion. We see footage from Rhino’s match with Kurt Angle where Angle got the victory and advanced to the King of the Mountain Match. We then see Jim Cornette’s announcement that Sting will be facing Samoa Joe tonight on Impact. Mike mentions that Kurt Angle has already qualified and then he mentions that Samoa Joe will be wrestling Sting tonight. Don points out that most people would expect both men to already be in the King of the Mountain match but it will be a qualifying match with only the winner advancing.
In the arena:
Team 3D comes to the ring and they have the new TNA Tag Title belts with them. Brother Ray gets on the mic and he says that the word on the street is that the Steiner Brothers want to talk to them. He tells the Steiners to come to the ring to talk to them. The Steiner Brothers come to the ring. Brother Ray tells Scott Steiner that on behalf of him and his brother Devon , it is a pleasure to stand in the ring with one of the greatest tag teams of all time. Brother Ray says that if it was not for them, guys like him and Devon would not be in the business. He wants the people of the Impact Zone to give them a standing ovation. Scott says that they don’t need any rednecks telling him and his brother how great they were. He says that they know how great they were. He wants to talk about how great Team 3D was and their legacy or lack thereof. Scott wants Team 3D to name one tag team that Team 3D defeated to become WWE Tag Team Champions that the fans would recognize. Scott says that Team 3D says they were WCW tag team champions, but the Steiners were the first WCW tag team champions and they spent most of their careers in WCW. Scott says that he does not remember seeing their names on the roster or seeing them step in the same ring. Scott addresses their time as ECW World Tag Team Champions. Scott says that when they were world tag team champions, they went all over the world. They defended the titles at the Tokyo Dome in front of 69,000 people. They won the IWGP World Tag Team Titles. They wrestled in front of 170,000 people in North Korea . Team 3D never left the bingo hall. Scott has no problem having Team 3D being called ECW City Champions, ECW State Champs, or ECW Bingo Hall Champs. There were no World Champions in ECW based on the paychecks they got. Scott tells them if they want a legacy, he will give them a legacy. Rick Steiner pulls out a list and Scott asks Rick to tell Team 3D who they have beaten. Rick mentions the Road Warriors, 4 Horsemen, Samoan SWAT Team, Nasty Boys, Outsiders, Lex Luger and Sting, Midnight Express, Freebirds, Money Inc., Doom, Harlem Heat, Rock & Roll Express. Scott interrupts Rick and asks Team 3D if they recognize any of the names. Brother Ray wants to know why the Steiners are so hot and pissed off at them because they are showing Scott and Rick the respect that they deserve. He says that they are old school wrestlers. They are just like the Steiners and not like the young boy punk wrestlers who come into the business with no respect. They know that the Steiners are the best. He wants to know why Scott cannot understand that they like him and respect him. Scott says that Team 3D’s legacy ‘don’t mean s***’. Brother Devon takes the mic and he says that while his brother might be done talking to Scott, he is not. They came out and put the Steiners on a high pedestal. They might have been a great tag team in their era and they have mentioned the teams that they have beaten. However, the Steiners never beat Team 3D. Scott says that is going to change because they will beat Team 3D at Slammiversary. Brother Ray says that he hopes that the Steiners kick their asses because it will mean that they took their best and beat the Steiners on the same night. Devon tells Scott to ‘testify’.

Christian says that he is not a tag team wrestler. He is the best wrestler. Tomko points out that Christian is a former champ and Christian wants Tomko to take it back, but Tomko refuses.
