The ratings from Monday night are in and the news isn't pretty for TNA Wrestling. Monday's taped edition of Impact only did a 0.6 cable rating with an average audience of 813,000 viewers on Spike TV. WWE Raw featuring the farewell of Shawn Michaels did a 3.7 cable rating off hours of 3.53 and 3.79 with a total of 5,800,000 viewers on the USA Network.
Dixie Carter was quick to indirectly blame the ratings on the retirement of Shawn Michaels as she wrote the following on Twitter: Thank goodness he can only retire once...hopefully. Shawn, congrats on an amazing career!
Carter's comments were obviously an effort to save face and try to salvage company morale. However, her comments are not fooling anyone as the numbers tell the tale. As pro wrestling agent and former TNA employee Bill Behrens pointed out on Twitter, the last time WWE Raw did a 3.7 cable rating was on Monday, March 15, 2010. TNA Impact also aired from tape that week and did a 0.84 cable rating. At the time, TNA's number was considered a disappointment and Carter once again took to Twitter by Tweeting, Although its classic David v Goliath, 1 stone will not bring down our giant, its a different day. Next week's edition of TNA Impact will air live in the 8-10 PM timeslot on Spike TV because of the NCAA Men's Basketball National Championship game. If the show does better numbers, I would look for the company to move Impact back an hour. If not, a move back to Thursday nights on Spike TV certainly isn't out of the question. Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan maintained if TNA could get head-to-head with WWE Raw on Monday nights they could grow their viewership. Not only has that not been the case, TNA's usual audience is slipping away quickly.
