Rockstar Spud The New Eric Young?, Surprised To See Awesome Kong Back, Real-Life Friends Joining Forces, How Will Friday's Debut Go?

Welcome back to another installment of #TNATalk as I answer your questions you sent to me involving TNA Wrestling/Impact Wrestling. If you have a question for me to answer, send them to me at this link or write them in the box below or tweet them by using "#TNATalk".

Would you compare Rockstar Spud to Eric Young in terms of starting his current persona as a heel only to get over and turn face?

Spud

Sure, I can absolutely picture that comparison. Eric Young started in Team Canada, one of the most hated groups in TNA Wrestling history. However, I really wouldn't consider Eric Young a full blown heel at that time. He had a certain trait about him that made people like him. There are certain people who you just can't hate and I feel like Eric Young was one of them. His character was revolved around stupidity yet likable. The crowd really turned in his favor with the whole "Don't fire Eric" story. I felt like that really solidified him as one of the top faces in the company. However, that character, in my mind, may not be right for the main event TNA World Championship spot. Eric really became a face for most of his career... And while he did turn heel to team up with Kevin Nash at one point, I don't think anyone took that seriously... Or even remembers that.

As for Rockstar Spud, I feel like he was a major heel when he teamed up with Dixie Carter. Dixie was one of the most hated characters on wrestling television and it carried over with Spud. Luckily, when Ethan started to attack Spud, the audience felt bad for him. They wanted him to stand up for himself (Just like Eric Young in the past). To me, it was the way Eric acted that made him turn face while... For Spud... It was when the heels turned on him that made the crowd like him. Spud is probably one of the top faces in the company right now.

Because of how she stated in past interviews that she had no interest in returning to TNA, did it catch you by surprise that Awesome Kong did return?

Destination America Article 3

It was Wednesday evening before the "live" Impact Wrestling episode on January 7th and I see a report pop up that Awesome Kong was backstage. I was kind of surprised, but I didn't look too much into it. First of all, there are only certain websites that I actually believe out there. Secondly, a lot of the times people are backstage just to see friends. I thought that was the case with Kong. She was just visiting. When the lights went out during the Havok beat down on Taryn, I had a feeling it was going to be Awesome Kong. And, it sure was! I popped, no doubt! I am a huge fan of Kong as she is one of the best female workers in the ring. To answer your question, yes I am quite surprised. In many interviews she stated that she has moved on from TNA and, as you said, had no interest in returning. But, I always say to "never say never" in the wrestling business. This is that case. She has returned. I feel like not only is the time right for her, but she likes what she is seeing in TNA. She likes their direction and I am sure they gave her a pretty decent offer. That's mere speculation, but the fact that she returned to the wrestling ring, and TNA for that matter, is awesome and I'm very glad!

With real-life friends, Samoa Joe, Low Ki, and MVP joining forces, do you suppose that fellow real-life friend, Homicide, will return to join them as well?

Homicide

It is probably just a coincidence... At least in my mind. I mean, Eric Young and Bobby Roode are real-life friends yet Eric turned on Roode. I'm sure Rockstar Spud and Ethan Carter III are real-life friends yet they are feuding against each other. There are a lot of people in TNA who are real-life friends... The community there is much friendlier than WWE. So, with the three (Joe, Ki, and MVP) joining... I really don't see any reason why Homicide would join. If he did, why would that make an impact? What has he literally done in the past 5 months? I don't want to say he is pointless, but they haven't used him. Having him join would be uneventful and forgettable. It just wouldn't add anything. That's not knocking Homicide, but more so knocking creative for not giving him anything.

How do you think this week's Impact Wrestling will be as they debut on Friday nights?

iwda

I honestly can't even answer this because I have to see the show first. I never want to comment on a show before it even airs. I feel like that is unprofessional and immature. However, if you look at the line-up, and I mentioned this in #TNANewsBooksImpact, it looks to be solid. Matches actually have meaning and purpose. Not only am I looking forward to the matches, but I want to see the other stuff... The backstage segments. Let's not forget, Dixie Carter said we will see a lot more on taped shows than live shows. Let's see where it goes. I wrote earlier last week (Before the January 7h show) that we can't judge TNA just on that one show. We need to give them time. We need to let them develop. Let's wait and see how it goes.
