TNA/IW Blog Zone - They Broke The Mold...

I have to say that going into Final Restitution, I mean Final Resolution, I had high hopes, yet I also had some worries. That card looked solid. Even the Knockouts Match looked as though it could have been good. But then we had to worry about Hogan, Bisch, Russo and even Dixie! None of them have done much good for TNA/IW in at least two years, longer for some. I thought the worst they could do was book FR terribly, but Bisch took being a crappy businessman to a whole new low!

It was bad enough that a couple of the matches just were not what they could have been because of the booking, the end of the 30 Minute Iron Man Match was only thirty minutes as obviously they didn't trust AJ and Roode enough to book them in a true hour long Iron Man Match, that they let the Match end on a tie, but that Hogan and Bisch couldn't even be bothered to show up to Final Resolution!

What type of crap is that? Not only can't they push TNA/IW whenever handed huge opportunities - Hogan can only talk about himself and Bisch can only complain about politics – but Bisch decided that Tweeting nastiness during FR was the best way to spend his time. It obviously was a much better way to spend his time than talk about FR with fans on Twitter, or possibly even being at the event in person? I'm completely floored at the lackadaisical behavior they have about TNA/IW and how they don't seem to give a flying fig other than when they need ego boosts to remind themselves that they were once big names in the industry.

I really wish someone would shake Dixie and Janice, show them how badly screwed up everything is and why Hogan and Bisch should not be earning one red cent from TNA/IW for any reason. Heck, I'd rather we were just stuck dealing with Russo after all Hogan and Bisch have done to TNA/IW. I agree with Richard, there's no way TNA/IW will ever compete with WWE at the rate their going.

Show Starts

C+ > Hardy was just sidetracked? That's one of the funniest jokes I've heard on TNA/IW. Wait, it wasn't a joke? Ugh! At least issues from Final Resolution will finally be resolved, maybe.

AJ vs Roode

B- > I don't know what it is about those light blue pants on AJ. They left nothing to the imagination. They're almost as bad as Mark Henry's white singlet that he only seemed to wear soaking wet. Just not something I want catching my eye during what could be a great Match.

I wasn't at all surprised that Roode waited out the five minute Match. Beautifully executed as a heel, but I'd still prefer a solid win over all these ties. Yes, Roode won in the end when AJ tapped, but the booking to that point (including Sunday's booking) totally sucked! I feel used and not at all satisfied by any of these matches between them this week.

Winner > Roode

Backstage Segment

C > Well, Roode sure can complain like a whiny heel! AJ came of whiny too. Actually, it was obviously well orchestrated and put together over the past couple days. It was too slick. They need to think about going live as this is working less and less for me.

Wild Card Tournament > Rob Terry & Hernandez vs Steiner & Abyss

C+ > It's been a couple weeks since we've had a Tourney, so why not? I'm so sick of TNA/IW's tournaments! They are not the cure all, end all, be all and TNA/IW creative doesn't seem to get that!

I have to say that Scotty looked very slow moving out of his pin and into his pushups in this Match. Beyond that, I loved how well Terry and Hernandez worked the ring together and how Abyss wanted virtually nothing to do to help Scotty until late in the Match. It was very interesting to watch if not wonderfully wrestled.

Winners > Scotty & Abyss

Backstage Segment

C > Oh, scary, Angle's unhappy with Sting! Sting should be scared! Oh, no!

In Ring Segment

C- > Well, Angle sure has the whiny locked on in this segment. I really don't like threats that involve those outside the industry. If just one little kid in Storm's town saw that and got scared, that's one person too many. It just rubs me the wrong way.

Best of Three Series > Anthony Neese vs Zema Ion

B > What is going on with Ion's ring gear? Those pants are a travesty! Neese on the other hand comes off as very Storm, Lance Storm that is.

Ion was good, but almost too flashy. I want more of Neese! Yes, high flying and wild has been a big part of the x Division, but Ion comes off as an arrogant little kid. And what did Neese do to deserve to be made to look so weak? I really didn't like the end of this Match even though most of the moves in this Match were fabulous. These moves are X Division and this is what the fans want to see!

Winner > Ion

Backstage Segment

D > JJ and Karen each wanting to leave over the other? Okay, they can both go!

Backstage Segment

C- > Ion is all about being pretty it seems. Sorry, little about wrestling is really pretty. Hot? Sexy? Exciting? Sure! Pretty? Not so much. And honestly, there was little that was pretty about this segment.

Backstage Segment

D- > So Gunner does the work but they both make an example out of Jesse? Flair's holding onto Gunner's coat tails!

Jesse Neal vs Gunner w/ Flair

F > From behind Gunner looked like and action figure brought to life! His legs and arms moved in such a strange way. Sorry, it really distracted me from the start of the Match. Not that the Match lasted any length of time anyway! That was pretty sucktastic!

Winner > Neal via DQ

Backstage Segment

B+ > Karen liked Sting's jacket and hitting on him? And now Karen doesn't want to get fired and throws her hubby under the train? Could that camera zoom in on Karen's boobs any more than they did? Okay, Sting was a blast there! Between teasing Karen and his 'poor Jeff' comment. This is a wonderful role for Sting!

In Ring Segment

C+ > Wow, Hardy was really boring in this segment! I hate to admit it, but Ray brought interest to this segment. Someone should tell Ray that Immortal starts with the letter I!

Backstage Segment

B- > Joe sure is cranky, but the way he's been booked, I don't blame him! Should be fun to see Joe and Magnus on the same team.

Wild Card Tournament > Robbie & Williams vs Magnus & Joe

B+ > This kind of sucks. Joe deserves to advance, but I have been lobbying to see Williams back in TNA/IW for months now! Watching Magnus and Williams chain wrestle was a lot of fun. Actually Williams looked really strong in this. Then again, compared to the turnip he was partnered with, Williams's actually able to work the ring! Of course Joe got the win and he and Magnus looked decent in the ring together.

Winners > Magnus & Joe

Backstage Segment

C > I love that both JJ and Karen are backstabbing each other. It's just too funny! And what is it with all these comments about Sting's jacket? It's truly heinous.

Backstage Segment

B > EY's mom dresses him and sends him on his way? And now he and ODB are life partners? He is too funny and I like the idea of him and ODB tagging together and possibly hanging together some. TNA/IW won't treat either right, so why not let them have a little fun? Those two together are already funny and very entertaining.

In Ring Segment

D- > Pope comes out with Devon's sons? This whole thing makes me twitch. The boys aren't going to learn anything from Ray and Devon in ECW? That's really funny! It's about time Devon snaps and takes Pope out. Pope shows them how it's done with pansy punches? Either way, I still don't like this. They might be training, but in this country they can't take bumps and I worry about them crossing that line. It continues to leave a bad taste in my mouth, but I think a big part of it is these boys with such a famous father are you and impressionable and learning about the industry in the likes of TNA/IW with all the crap that's going on there. I would hope Devon would want his kids to work to the top, but working TNA/IW means they will never get a high spot in the WWE, no matter how good they are.

Backstage Segment

C > I love the lying here. Just too funny! One of the first segments of theirs that doesn't make me want to stab my eyes and ears out with an ice pick! And there's no way those are her boobs! Strapless at our age after two kids? Yeah, no way!

Traci vs Madison

D+ > Ugh, Madison is showing off her lack of class with her nude panties again. Again, Traci needs pants that fit her and doesn't need to tell everyone that she has Double D's. It's usually obvious which girls have Double D's and which don't. Taz said Madison looks like the girl next door? I'd sooner move than let my kids live next door to a girl who likes looking like she doesn't have panties on. A couple solid moves doesn't make for a good wrestler. I'm still not a Madison fan and don't see that I ever will be. What I will say is that it's nice seeing the Knockouts working the ring hard, not just flouncing around like they're afraid to break a nail. Also nice that this is the fifth Match so far. Not all have been log, but there's actually been some wrestling!

Winner > Madison

Backstage Segment

A > Sting sure loves taunting and teasing Karen. Either they get along well and both laugh about it afterward or he can't stand her and is loving every moment of it. But the best was both being 'fired' from TNA/IW and blaming each other for it. I haven't enjoyed them anything from JJ and Karen the way I enjoyed that! The best part is that we'll be without both of them, at least for a couple weeks. No one ever seems to stay fired from TNA/IW. Well, other than Petey Williams!

Bully Ray vs Jeff Hardy

C- > Hardy's over selling to start the Match was a bit annoying. I will say that Ray looked better in the ring than he has in a while. The weight loss has really seemed to help Ray in the ring. A couple clotheslines, head scissors, two twists of fate and Hardy wins? After all the abuse he took, then he came back as Super Cena, I mean Super Hardy. This really felt like a RAW main event to me, and not in a good way.

Winner > Hardy

In Ring Segment

D+ > Then Roode barely bumping into Hardy completely destroyed him again? This looks very WWE to me. Actually, Ray putting Hardy through a table does look very WWE – from a lot of matches. Huh, attacking Sting. Will we be seeing Sting tag with Hardy soon? Sting and Hardy working the ring together? I never thought I'd see that. I guess I'll have to wait and see, though I admit that the spoilers are taunting me a bit at this moment.

Post Show

I guess I should be happy with six matches? Not saying they were all good or strong, but there were six matches there. I am thrilled to FINALLY see Doug Williams back on Impact! I have been pushing for his return and finally he has. Hopefully this won't be a one off Match without him showing back up again.

I'm going to keep hoping that TNA/IW will give us more matches. I actually didn't completely hate this show and really did like the Jarrett segments. Maybe it was because I knew we wouldn't be stuck watching them both on Impact, at least for the rest of the year. You know they won't be gone for that long!

Let’s face it the ppv are ok the show leading up to the ppv is what sucks out of the next 3 weeks only 1 good show the James Storm vs Kurt Angle should b highly promoted best feud today then hi Jeff vs Bobby due too it needs a longer build up (I hate long feud but there’s always too short) and why Gail Kim didn’t come in as face ill never understand she promotes real wrestling on her website but asking people to laydown? And for the life of me TNA right now has 4 stars they could highly promote as champions of America Kurt, James Storm, AJ, and Mr. Anderson. Oh well so until Dixie start taking full responsibility of the storylines get input but not use every ideal and show them friendly but let them know she’s running the show (Vince) .

    • Chris_Storm

If Anderson is never on television again, nobody would notice.

  • Patrick_Peralta

Stings new role of being in charge is interesting and fun to watch as it was tonight. I normally don't care about JJ or Karen but tonight with both kissing up to Sting and backstabing each other it worked really well and I enjoyed the segment between them.

Decent Knockouts Match, I like How Gunner's been used recently.

  • jonathon212

you know that you complain about the stupidest things? who cares what pants they wear? or what colors their panties are? or how gunner walks? and how everybody is whiny ? or too many tournaments? and on and on and on….

it was a good show tonight but you practically crapped all over it for some of the stupidest things ive ever read. and btw learn how to count there were 7 matches not 6.

    • sforester

It's a blog, not a strict review. In case you've never been around here before, Kendra has a fashion background, so she does feel the need to mention fashion gaffes when they detract from the wrestler/performer. I enjoy her perspective on the show (mostly because I agree with her on most counts).

      • Chris_Storm

I'm with Blitz. Close. Your. Mouth. Sir.

      • This was a fun PPV, the Tag Team title match was very good, but what disappointed me was the crowd. They only reehced or cared about the 90 s stars and it goes back to the theory of how can you build a new star when as much as you try, the crowd doesn’t care and only root for the ones they do know? That was a crazy bump AJ did off the cage, and a very dangerous one but that was the only time the crowd reacted to AJ. If they can’t react to him, then they won’t react to any of the homegrown talent. Still though, TNA’s best PPV of the year.

  • sforester

Before I go any further, I want to call BS on this wild card tournament. Doug Williams with the showboat Robbie E? Samoa Joe with Magnus? I'm not even going to waste my breath on how stupid the idea of an Abyss-Steiner tag team is at this point of booking. So far, the team with the most potential to get along that I've seen is none other than EY and ODB. You'd think that they'd have a regular tournament with The Brits together and the Robbies together… I wouldn't even complain about Bully Ray/Steiner together as they can still go (well…at least Bully Ray can) and will have an easier load by being in tag action (I still worry about Steiner's trachea), especially since they're both members of among the top tag teams ever.

AJ vs. Roode: Why…. why didn't Sting just say sudden death from the start rather than giving an initial 5-minute limit? Apart from that, I was pretty impressed with how Roode was stalling…I wonder if he's been watching his Larry Zbyszko tapes? Very smart move to take out AJ's knee and lock in a half crab. More submission wrestling please! On a side note: Yes, AJ did sound very whiny and usually does whether heel or face. You can't teach promo skills, and while AJ knows what to say and how to say it, the whiny quality to his voice just doesn't sit right.

Rob Terry and Hernandez vs. Bully Ray and Steiner: I was very surprised by the amount of teamwork Robbie T and SuperMex showed off and how well they did it. That bodyslam/front suplex combination Rob Terry used to get Hernandez a nearfall was pretty awesome. Does anyone really trust Abyss and Steiner together? I got a feeling sooner or later Abyss will dunk his partner (no spoiler).

Angle's whining: Didn't Angle learn anything from his feud with JJ when Karen and the kids got involved? Had the Devon-Pope segment not happened, this would have been the offensive segment of the night.

Nese vs. Ion: To be quite honest, I don't like the idea of either of them chasing the X-division title just yet. Maybe in the future, but these two guys are young and need spotlighting before they get a title shot and a best of three series just doesn't do it for me. The match does show off their potential, with the cocky Ion getting the win. The promo backstage after the match though about "me, myself, and Ion"… Whoever told him to say that should be beaten with a wiffleball bat.

Karen/JJ/Sting: I'm going to cover it all here as to not take up TOO much space: I kinda zoned out while they were yapping, but I love how they defended each other to their faces and then saved their own skins while talking to Sting. Firing both of them? Eh….I got a feeling Karen will be back soon enough.

Jesse Neal vs. Gunner: This is one of the rare occasions I have to disagree with you Ken. I'll give you the robotic walk and lousy match…but it was all worth it to see that DDT on the mat-less floor, which was at a particularly high angle if I was viewing that right. It hearkens back to the old days when you wanted to put someone out of commission or write someone out the company. With Jesse Neal gone, you gotta wonder if Shannon Moore and Toxxin are on their way out as well.

Hardy and Bully Ray in the ring: Blah blah blah I'm already tired of Hardy. Thanks to Bully Ray for saving that segment.

Robbie E and Doug Willams vs. Samoa Joe and Magnus:
And this right here is why the wild card tournament is pure BS. Had Williams and Magnus even been switched in their roles, I could have handled it. I will say though that Magnus and Joe did show some decent teamwork at the end of the match, but sooner or later, Magnus is gonna get dunked…and I will love it.

EY gets his partner: ODB? While I'm normally against intergender matches, ODB acts so much like a man sometimes that I can make an exception for her. Her teaming with EY should be an interesting experience.

Pope-Devon and sons segment: I don't know what was more offensive: Pope's comments about Devon's wife leaving him, the non-PG joke he made after that about the boys that should have been his, or the kick in the slats that led to the boys turning on their daddy. THIS was what I was afraid of happening… a slightly less graphic version of Raven-Sandman in ECW. I was almost waiting for the Pope to pull down a giant crucifix from the rafters and tie Devon to it…and I better shut up before creative gets ideas.

Traci vs. Madison: -yawn- I want Winter! It's not a good sign when you're more interested in the commentary than the match. I'm used to Taz making dirty comments, but Tenay got in on that? I think that's the first time I ever heard a dirty comment out of him!

Bully Ray vs. Jeff hardy: 1) It appears Impact is doing an overrun a la Raw. 2) That was a (to steal one of Ken's words here) sucktastic match. Luckily Bully Ray putting Hardy through the table saved the short, awful match.

Once again, the potential for a good show gets ruined by booking…. Fire them all! It's not that great a show when the only thing that gets an A is seeing the Jarretts reacting to getting fired….and not even an A+.

    • Chris_Storm

I will see your wiffle ball bat, and raise you a sledge hammer. But it should be used in shoot fashion, not worked.

  • MonsterMike42

I thought it was funny when Karen Jarrett said when God made her, He broke the mold. Personally, I think when God made Karen, his favorite song came on the radio and he got distracted.

    • Chris_Storm

Something is the matter with your madula oblongota.

      • sforester

        Medulla oblongata* -winks-

  • Chris_Storm

-Kendra, I am surprised you didn't mention AJ botching the finish of the first five minutes. I rarely catch AJ making mistakes and this one killed the segment for me. When he was about to dive in for the pin, he looked back at the clock to make sure he didn't jump too early, then didn't look back and nearly landed with his knee directly in Bobby's face.
-Steiner was outstanding in this match. He was the only believable person in the ring, he really is still very good in small snippets. I'm not an Abyss fan at all, so he did nothing for me, and Terry/Hernandez are bad enough individually that I just couldn't stomach their work together. So I guess I disagree on this one as a whole, I did pop when Scotty yelled at the ref to "start the count" just to get off and do push-ups. This tournament just goes to show how far their tag division has fallen this year. I always hear that one man does not a division make, but apparently one set of spot-monkey Machine Guns does.
-Sting and Angle was completely boring without James Storm. Quick advice to all bookers, NEVER leave the hottest guy on the mic in your company off of a television show.

    • Chris_Storm

-I agree completely about Neese. I can't buy Ion's work, look, or mic-work. The fact that when I look at a guy and immediately believe I could take him in a bar if needed, makes me never want to see him near a title. Ever. He might as well have "never was" tattooed on his forehead.
-Flair is finally settling down in a manager role, and while I wish it was with a different wrestler, maybe he can turn Gunner into something. Am I the only one that is happy Jessie Neal won't be on my tv every week from here on out, and hoping Mrs Neal leaves with him? I would've rather seen the attack done on the ramp so that we never had to watch this match.

      • Chris_Storm

-Sting's jacket simply MUST be a rib. I refuse to believe anyone actually liked it.
-Poor Jeff comment had me rolling.
-Hardy's mic-work is just as bad as ever and I wish they would stop reminding us of this. Bully Ray continues to be the best surprise TNA has offered us in 2011.
-Does anyone else wish the British Invasion would be given the titles as bad as I do?
-Joe continues to look like a bag of milk, and put forth just as little effort as one would.
-I just wish the Robbie E character would die already.
-Intergender team here does nothing for me at all. It makes me press FF on my remote. I like them both, but ODB should be a real threat in her own division for crying out loud!

        • Chris_Storm

-Pope when from being a headliner, to this? It just makes me sad to see him in his prime being used in angle after angle that nobody cares about. Devon's kid look close to my age, calling them kids is just dumb and this turning on their Dad made me sick. I won't watch anymore of this angle. Period.
-I respect your views on her attire and all, I really do, but Madison works her butt off and couldn't even remotely make Tracy look like a wrestler instead of the valet that she is. Madison carried the division when nobody else could, for the last year or so until Mickie came in. And Mickie is going to kill somebody if she doesn't get her strength back up in the gym, her DDT is botched every single time and scares the life out of me every time she does it. Another story for another time. I can only hope that Frankie was watching from home, and the ending indicates that Tracy is about to spend all of her time there with him. Sorry but not a fan of either of theirs.

          • Chris_Storm

-The firing should have been done in the ring, I just don't see why it was a backstage segment, the fans would have eaten it up, they could have even sang the na na goodbye song. It would have made it far more memorable.
-Main event was passable but someone please explain to me why faces are presumed to all be friends, as are heels! There is no reason for Ray to help out Bobby at all. Horrible booking, and sadly the ending makes me see the future of Sting being back in the ring full time and it bothers me because of how much I have enjoyed the Stinger as the boss.

          • Chris_Storm

            Great work Kendra, as usual.
