Top WWE Star Cleared To Return; Pitched For World Title Feud, Another Royal Rumble Main Event Revealed, Two Names In The Running To Carry Smackdown As The Face Of The Brand

We’re told Mark Henry is officially cleared to return to the ring. The plan as of last week was to hold him back until the conclusion of the World Heavyweight Championship program between Big Show and Sheamus.

One plan pitched recently had Sheamus regaining the title at WWE TLC next month and going on to defend it at Royal Rumble against Mark Henry. Although we’re told there are some in the company that feel Big Show is doing a great job and that Sheamus isn’t the right guy to carry Smackdown. The people that believe this feel Show should keep the title until someone else can be groomed. The problem is Triple H is still very high up on Sheamus and doesn’t want to give up on him yet. With so much invested in Sheamus, nobody really wants to “go to bat” for keeping the title on Show.

Further complicating the matter, there’s nobody really ready to fill in for Sheamus although some have pushed to give the spot to Daniel Bryan.

Have to wonder when they will get a little bit of faith back in Orton and make him the face of Smackdown again, because I can see that happening. I would like Daniel Bryan to be the face of Smackdown, as much as I like Sheamus, he just doesn't have the personality like Daniel does.

" he just doesn't have the PERSONALITY like Daniel does" Who'd have thought 1 year ago today that would ever be said about Bryan?

      • PainOfDemise

I know, it's weird saying it, but Daniel really took the ball that was given to him and ran with it. I knew he was a great wrestler, but didn't think he had anything else to him.

I think Orton needs too turn heel personally, so that in a way takes him out of being the face of Smackdown. But I do understand were you are coming from

I'd like to see Daniel Bryan get another run with the title. all so I'm glad to see Regal but I wish they paired him with Daniel Bryan instead of SHeamus as much as I am a Sheamus Fan, Regal I feel is better suited working with Bryan….since Regal trained Bran to begain with.

I’ve actually enjoyed Sheamus more since he lost the title compared to his whole reign as champion. His feud and matches with Big Show are surprisingly good.

I’d like to see Daniel Bryan as the face of smackdown with Ziggler and Sheamus not far behind. I don’t care to see anything from Orton or Del Rio at all to be honest, both th

Daniel Bryan? Really? He had his run last year, that's it. It's time to move on. Sheamus is great for Smackdown — he's a great worker, solid on the mic, and is a big fan favorite for the younger audience. This report almost seems like a hapless way to start a movement for Daniel Bryan.

This is what needs to happen…

    1. Sheamus regains the title at TLC; retains against Show on a later SD
    2. Sheamus retains at the Rumble versus Mark Henry
    3. Randy Orton wins the Royal Rumble
    4. Sheamus retains the title at Elimination Chamber, but Ziggler cashes in on him
    5. Wrestlemania Triple Threat – Ziggler (c) vs. Orton (Rumble) vs. Sheamus (Rematch Clause)

As for Daniel Bryan he and Kane can continue holding the Tag Titles and at WM defend them against the new NXT faction — either Reigns/Rollins, Ambrose/Rollins, Ambrose/Reigns — or maybe all three in a handicap! Daniel Bryan is a great worker but he's not a big enough star to be in the main event scene again. Once is good enough. Chris Benoit only got one WM push… why should Bryan get another when Benoit is a lot better than him?

Why does no one have faith in Sheamus? I have been to Smackdown event sand he gets a huge pop from the crowd. He is excellent for the business. He has good feuds and can put on great wrestling matches.

Characters can get stale over time. If there isn't something "new" happening each week, all you have is a big tough guy with a belt. You can have a lot of big tough guys with belts. I personally think Sheamus losing the belt to Show is a "save in disguise" for him.

If you're standing around with a championship all the time and not a lot of people can understand why, you'll end up mixed like Cena. Not that I'm Cena bashing, but I'm sure anyone reading this at some point or another has seen Cena come down the ramp and just shook their head.

The next time you do, think about why; (unless you've already had enough of that); and maybe you'll understand why they "needed" to shake things up with Sheamus, perhaps another approach.

Tat's how I feel about Punk. He's boring as shit and has had the belt for wayyy too long. Time too SHAKE THINGS UP too get ratings back on the right track again.

Hopefully they return Mark Henry to his dominant heel role of last year.. he was doing a great job in the main event scene and i wouldn't actually mind seeing him getting another run with the title.

Always remember how heartbroken Mark Henry looked on RAW the night after Owen died. Alot of respect for him.

So in the absence of Triple H, we have to deal with Triple H Light as the “face” of Smackdown? Not buying in.
