Hello and welcome to The Weekly Rundown hosted by yours truly, Guy Landau. This is a weekly feature on WrestlingNewsWorld.com where I gloss over the important happenings in the week in WWE & TNA as it pertains to the companies' respective major shows, in the form of bulletins for the positive happenings (A.K.A "YES!", prefaced with + signs), the negative happenings (A.K.A "NO!", prefaced with – signs), and the ones I could not decide what they were, but felt they were important enough to comment on (prefaced with ? signs).

So without further ado, let's get started.

Impact Wrestling

+     Taz was a bit naughty in the opening segment. He said “just to recap” after the initial commercial break, breaking the fourth wall in a sense.

+     I liked how Roode, after saying he’ll go back to what brought him to the game, used a beer bottle to get the victory over Hernandez – just like he did against Storm when he won the WHC. The ref being suspicious of Roode after seeing the beer bottle remnants was also a nice touch.

-         I have a big issue with WHC vs. X Champion not being a main event of any show.

+     Sabin vs. Manik was really good. Like, REALLY good. As far as I am concerned it was a rare match held back by a lukewarm finish which I think was a result of time constraints.

-         The post-match brawl, however, was terrible.

-         There appeared to be a bending problem with the ring ropes on Impact. 3 times I saw people try to go over them when clotheslined only to fail.

-         I hated the AJ/Aries finish. Another bad finish to a great match.

?    I am going to reserve any judgment of Tito Ortiz being #August1Warning until I see where it goes.

-         Ooooh… Vickie, that’s the wrong use of “whom”. “Daniel Bryan, WHO is a great competitor”. He is the subject of the sentence, and so he is referred to as who and not whom. You’re welcome.

+     The triple threat for the WHC is great on paper, even before seeing it. I’ll talk about the match itself later on.

+     This is beside the point, but did everyone see Punk’s Grammar Slam? It is fantastic. I’m bringing it up because A. Go watch it and B. All over the internet I see people mimicking Sandow by writing “your welcome” which is a travesty all on its own. Go watch Punk’s video about “your vs. you’re” to see how I usually respond to that.

+     Here’s my take on A-Ry’s commentary. I like his work in general, and I especially like how he finds ways to put himself over without hurting the quality of his commentary. For example, when talking about Sandow/Rhodes, he mentioned his association with The Miz and how he would have been insulted had he been appointed “protector of the case” by Miz. It reminds the viewer that he is a wrestler and it adds flavor to what he’s saying.

-         There is no reason for Sin Cara still having that ring light! You know what – squash him Big E! Squash him like a bug!

+     It seems Punk is on his way to becoming the main Smackdown guy. If the ratings are up, he could very well be the reason why.

+     Fandango vs. Punk was a great match, much more than I expected it to be (in that it was given a lot of time).

-         The RVD/Christian/Orton backstage segment felt waaaay too contrived, with each one cutting the other off.

+     Is… is WWE starting a divas feud that isn’t over the title, in Layla vs. Kaitlyn?!

+     The main event didn’t disappoint. Great work by all 3. RVD seemed a bit off at points, but nothing too serious. I also like Christian winning.

+     Strong promo by Bryan to open the show. He hit a lot of nails right on the head there, though I’m not sure Cena would never wrestle again outside of WWE. I could very well be wrong, I don’t know him, but I wouldn’t jump to these types of conclusions.

+     Barrett’s involvement was a bit random, but I was truly on the edge of my seat for the whole segment. That beard shirt is one of the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.

+     I hope Ricardo is getting a face turn.

+     I love Cody. Going around, quoting Oscar Wilde… Oh, Cody, you devil you.

-         Apparently nowadays you can tell the Bellas apart by their bra size.

+     John Cena’s promo was well done. You can agree or disagree, but chanting “boring” is just not fair.

+     Shield vs. Orton, Cena and Bryan is a great idea. I am hopeful that The Shield somehow wins, though since they are no longer undefeated I am doubtful. However, that match has the potential to be off the hook.

-         Once again, Wyatt Family vs. Tons of Funk is a disaster. They need longer matches, this doesn’t do the Wyatts any justice.

+     It appears that Kane is back.

+     The divas appear to be getting some much needed attention. There are actually more than 2 characters getting attention at a time.

+     Punk vs. Lesnar was a great brawl. I can’t wait for the match.

+     Triple H’s backstage segment was well done.

+     I like The Real Americans, they showed good team work.

+     A DQ is the only viable finish to the 6 men tag where The Shield don’t go under clean, considering all 3 of their opponents need to be strong as any one of them could walk out of Summerslam with the title.

+     I liked the ending to RAW with the pseudo cash-in and The Shield dismantling Bryan and Cena.

+     Overall I felt like this was a really solid RAW. Good effort by WWE.

That’s all for this week. Don't forget to come back next week for a new edition of the Weekly Rundown!

“- Apparently nowadays you can tell the Bellas apart by their bra size.”

Last year, when I heard that Nikki Bella was getting breast implants, the first thought I had was “Isn’t that going to screw up Twin Magic? I mean… isn’t that how they win matches? God knows it’s not how they wrestle that wins matches.”

I am not a huge fan of Cena as a wrestler. Mostly just because I am bored of him. However, I think he has been doing a great job handling and working with the crowd reactions he gets. I have found myself wanting to watch his promos to see what happens now between him and the crowd.

What do you think about the WHC jobbing clean two times on free tv within a month?

I don’t see the loss to Christian as a job, but rather a set-up for their match. I fully expect RVD to challenge Del Rio after he beats Christian so the job to RVD was probably done to serve the same purpose. If not though I’d be upset about it. Regardless I don’t think Del Rio holding the title is a good move anyway as the fans just don’t connect with him.
