Lol I like your comment at the end of the article.

As an American I wash my hands of that statement too. Although Ozil was the deal of the summer :-p

I’m with Miz on this, I don’t follow soccer or care about it in any way, shape, or form.

It is perfectly acceptable not to like something, but being a d*** about it isn’t necessary. Sadly for Americans the Miz gave what is seen as a ‘typical American reaction’ i.e. Americans seem to have to take things to the point of insult and will act arrogantly like something is completely beneath them simply because they don’t like it. They also seem to act as though wherever they go in the world they don’t have to adapt and be friendly to the local culture, but rather that people should adapt to them. Is it really that hard to be polite and accept you’re not at home? We all think it’s ridiculous that the winner of MLB and NFL will be called ‘World Champion’ (most of the world doesn’t even watch MLB or NFL, and it ain’t just those sports I saw an all american swimming championship winner referred to as world champion) but you don’t see us acting like a jacka** about it.
All this is to address the Americans who don’t get it, obviously a hell of a lot do get it and I don’t wish to sound as though I’m painting all Americans with the same brush.

AGREE here as well. The Miz’s arrogance here is what embarrassed me. I don’t care that he doesn’t like the game but to brush it off like he did was uncalled for.

Maybe they should have stopped asking him about it after the first time he said he knows nothing about it. I probably would get crabby if someone keeps asking me questions on something I know nothing about. I had no clue as in what the reporter was talking about myself. I also don’t really see this as a big deal either.

      • Ashley

Really? Cuz you pretty much did just make it sound like all Americans are the same. I would put more stock in what you were saying if you weren’t being such a d*** about it.

I hate how Americans act towards soccer. Just because it isn’t a major sport in this country doesn’t mean you have to be demeaning about it. I watch basketball and soccer, I never act like Football and Baseball are low class. I just simply don’t watch it, it’s not my cup of tea. You don’t have to insult a sport simply because you don’t care to watch it. It’s frustrating. They’ll come around though, soccer is the fastest growing sport in America, and once people actually watch it instead of just going based on it’s stereotypes, I see people having a change of heart.

THIS. Great comment and my thoughts exactly. I like The Miz, I think he’s a hard worker and has overcome a lot of obstacles. However, the way he acted in this interview made him look like an ignorant ethnocentric American that didn’t have a clue about what goes on in the rest of the world. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t follow or like association football (I don’t like the s-word), but he didn’t have to be demeaning about it.

Learn to accept the fact that not all will have the same interests/likes as you. Dont worry about those that are against Soccer — concentrate on those that are for it. You might want to use this approach for gay rights as well. Just because someone is against somethhing doesn’t make them ignorant.

Hello everybody. Yes, it’s called Football, because you play it with your with your hands, with an egg-formed Ball.

About the Miz…He is an ignorant little Son of …

Was it not yourself, Richard, who pointed out Lionel Messi is vastly more “liked” on Facebook than the entire Denver Broncos.

i use to like the miz until my hero cm punk said that he isnt main event material, after that i hated him. im so glad punk brought me to the light.

Maybe The Miz was in character. His character acts like that. Anyway, no matter if it’s football/soccer or American football they both suck. I’ll take the NBA and NHL over both any day.
