Where Is Big Show?, John Cena’s Surgery, Dolph Ziggler & The MITB Briefcase, CM Punk As A Heel

Why has Big Show been off television?

As noted here on Richard’s Backstage Blog, Big Show is not injured and is out on requested time off. He was on WWE’s overseas tour of Australia earlier this month and should be back shortly.

Is the news of John Cena’s surgery legitimate?

We were actually blindsided with the news of John Cena’s having surgery given the fact we were told the plan was (and apparently still is) to do Cena vs. CM Punk again at Hell in a Cell. The surgery took place Tuesday in Alabama but we are still gathering more information as this seemingly came “out of the blue.” I posted an article earlier featuring quotes from Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery. You can read it at this link.

Is Dolph Ziggler’s Money in the Bank briefcase limited to the World Heavyweight Championship?

Yes, the way they did the Money in the Bank ladder matches, one briefcase was for the WWE Championship (won by John Cena) with the other being for the World Heavyweight Championship (won by Dolph Ziggler). There has been a lot of talk of Ziggler “cashing in” so with every show, especially every pay-per-view, I wait for it to happen but so far it has not.

With CM Punk’s heel turn not seeming to work, do you see WWE making him babyface?

CM Punk’s heel turn is working. While his fans are always going to be his fans, he’s over as a heel and I laugh every time I see a critical comment come through regarding Punk’s attitude. Punk is a genius and is doing exactly what was intended to happen with his character. If you’re annoyed by Punk, you’ve been worked.

I love Punk's heel turn. As old of a wrestling fan as I am, I find myself so irritated at it and just wanna hit him! It's brilliant. WWE and Punk are doing a very great job with this

    • Joe

I'm with ya. He's the 'bad guy' you wanna see get beat, but there's that part of me says he needs to keep the title

    • British bulldog

Couldn’t agree more!! I love his character, yet I wanna see him get sparked, but not lose the championship, definately does his job well!!

  • Alberto

Thanks for answering my question regarding Big Show Richard. Was enjoying his character on screen.

  • OneShotDeal

Heh, it makes me chuckle when I see people complaining about CM Punk as a heel. Yes he was a very popular face for a little while, but it was never going to last, throughout his carreer his best work has always been as a heel, it's his ideal role. Royal Rumble 2010 was made all the more memorable by Punk's preaching on the mic between eliminations. His best run in Ring of Honor was as a heel, threatening to leave for WWE with the RoH belt. Yes, people will still cheer him, because he's as entertaining as pro wrestling can be in this modern age, and some people cheer great work be it from a face or heel, and he's got a lot of "die-hard" fans. But his run as a heel will go for a long time yet, and I am entertained weekly by it.

I’ll never understand why some fans complain about a heel saying and doing things they don’t like.

  • AnacondaVise

    Respect My Heel Turn!!!

  • Spike westphal

Fans need to know punk is better heel than a baby face I enjoyed his heel work with the straightedge socity

  • Bigdaddychuck

If WWE really wanted to they could have DZ cash in on Punk. Now I know what all you wrestling fans are thinking how can he. Logic says make it look like a mistake that the wrong contact was put in the wrong briefcase. It freshens up the raw main event and turns DZ face. Have you ever noticed no one has ever open the briefcase on tv and pulled out the contract. We all know WWE makes up their own rules anyways. I think it would be awesome to put a new spin on it.

    • Darren

A bit of a stretch, but I like the logic behind it. That could also play into Vickie’s “managerial prowess.” She could be the one to expose the error and it could pull a complete swerve on the fan base. I agree a fresh rivalry would be welcomed, but wwe isn’t ready to put THE belt on ziggles just yet.

Chuck, we discussed this in the Live Blog, and Richard gave you the same answer I did. While VKM really seems to think the fans are idiots, and there is a chance of things going down like this, it''s such a minute possibility that it's not worth all the fuss that you've been giving it.

I also don't see DZ being turned face. While he's a heel that many fans love, DZ is a really solid heel, so there's no reason to change things for him. Whether DZ stays with Vickie, or if they bring in Flair to pair with him, DZ will be staying heel.

      • Bigdaddychuck

KB I didn’t ask Richard that question although someone did but I would have asked it with my logic included. With Cena almost out for 6 weeks they should spin it that way. I would love to see a Punk DZ hiac match.

    • erik draven

True, but we also know that there isn't anything in the briefcase to pull out, as we all saw when it flopped open on RAW during the period that the Miz/Alex Riley were in possession on MITB.

      • Bigdaddychuck

Yes that’s true but McMahon knows we don’t remember after a week. So why would that matter.

  • Hillbilly Jim

I am glad to see every heel has a beard, makes it easier to recognize……….randy, punk miz, Damien, wade, bryan, can’t wait for Lesners…..

    • Joe O.

      Randy is face

    • PainOfDemise

Randy isn't a heel…and he doesn't have the beard anymore anyway.

      • outkazt09

Randy is neither a babyface or heel. He is a tweener.

  • Gary

    Randy who?

    • Blazeking

      Savage. The Macho King!

      oooohhhhh yeeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!

I just love CM Ounk more as a heel only because he drops more pipe Bombs. Punk in my opinion is like a Two- Face character he us one of those guys who you can really hate and someone you can really love
