Why WWE Ended The Brand Extension, Where’s Santino?, Taping Raw Early, Cashing In Briefcases, Wyatts

What are your thoughts on WWE ending the brand extension?

It was time for the brand extension to end and I like how WWE slowly phased it out, rather than making a big deal out of it. The brand extension was put into place as a way to create internal competition based on the extra talent the company absorbed by acquiring WCW. Over the years the main event scene thinned out and it was impossible not to have one brand superior over the other. I don’t know what that says about talent development but the brand extension ran its course. The argument that “there aren’t as many opportunities” is basically a moot point with the additions of WWE NXT, WWE Superstars, WWE Main Event and WWE Saturday Morning Slam.

Where is Santino Marella?

Santino Marella is expected to return to WWE in September, as we reported here on WrestlingNewsWorld.com. Santino suffered a neck injury earlier this year and also opened a training academy in Toronto. You can keep up with him on our Santino Marella news page.

Why was next week’s Monday Night Raw taped this Tuesday night?

WWE is heading down under for a tour of Australia this weekend and into next week. They’ll also be running shows in South Africa and China before returning back to the United States for the August 5th episode of Raw from Green Bay, Wisconsin. You can track the WWE schedule at this link and we’ll bring full show details. Make sure you remain informed with WWE television in our WWE Spoilers section.

When do you see Damien Sandow “cashing in” his Money in the Bank contract? Will it be a “waiting game” like Dolph Ziggler?

I am under the impression that Damien Sandow’s “cash in” attempt will be more like a “waiting game” and Randy Orton’s “cash in” attempt will be sooner rather than later. These are, however, my opinion and not anything I’ve heard about future creative plans. WWE is programming Sandow with Cody Rhodes in attempt to elevate them both, while Orton is already an established main event star. I did hear WWE doesn’t want both briefcases around in the long-term, which is why people are already speculating Orton “cashes in” at SummerSlam. Creative plans are always subject to change and again, a lot of this is my opinion.

I’m a big fan of The Wyatt Family promos but I feel like they are hurt by the fact that they haven’t had an official match yet. What are your thoughts?

As we reported here on WrestlingNewsWorld.com, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan will make their in-ring WWE debut against Brodus Clay & Tensai on this week’s episode of Smackdown. I am very high up on The Wyatt Family and was disappointed they were not on this week’s Monday Night Raw. Will that change next week? I don’t understand why WWE doesn’t record Raw from Australia the day of like they do in the UK

    • Scottyo614

I’m going to give guess and its just a hunch and say attendance?

    • Sander

It will be very expensive to bring stages and stuff to down under

    • https://twitter.com/DannyIWR Danny Murphy

      Expenses

In my opinion the Brand Extension will never be dead until they start treating Smackdown like a follow up show to RAW as oppose to a B show as it is now. I remember back in the Attitude Era fans would watch Smackdown to see the aftermath of what happened on RAW, and all the top stars like Rock, Triple H, Austin etc. would be on the show.. Nowadays everything, or at least the majority, of important storylines happen on RAW and you really don’t even need to watch Smackdown in order to stay in touch with what is happening in WWE.

    • Kenneth

And if something does happen on SD it’ll be recapped three times an hour on Raw anyway.

Funny how you miss something when it’s gone. I’m not sure if WWE currently has a big enough roster to separate RAW and SmackDown again and make them both good shows every week but I kind of want it back, if for nothing else than to give me a reason to watch SmackDown again.

I never liked them ending the brand extension…and I still don’t like it. It was a stupid move on their part. I know Richard liked the move initially…thought he would’ve change his stace on it by now, since he sees it’s not really working out. But hey, to each his own. We have the right to our own different opinions right.

  • mrkevo69

I personally hate the fact that there is no brand extension anymore. I feel that WWE has way too many talented superstars with potential to work at the top of the card yet they get pushed down to mid-card roles which are usually not very entertaining. I felt like the competition between shows made things more interesting and gave some superstars a chance to be on TV and prove themselves.

I know WWE has NXT, Superstars, Main event etc. however in all honesty I don’t think there are very many who watch these shows as they are “C” shows and nothing major ever happens on them in terms of interesting storylines. Hell, I rarely watch Smackdown anymore because all the main story lines are done on RAW so watching Smackdown isn’t necessary for me.

I’m sure everyone can’t wait for the return of Santino Marella. Forget the underrated talent of Wade Barrett, Tyson Kidd, Justin Gabriel and Ted Dibiase Jr.

    • monty

here you go again with wade, are you wade himself? because every askwnw you post this same comment about how awesome is wade baret?

      • James

yes I’m his 9th cousin twice removed through 3 marriages

As much as I like seeing a guy like Sandow become Mr. Money in the Bank or, more accurately, Sir Bank Note in the Treasury, I really don’t want to see yet another Smackdown winner continually lose matches en route to a “surprise” cash-in. It dilutes the belt, diminishes the value of the briefcase and, worst of all, takes sledgehammer shots at the guy’s credibility as an upcoming champion. As for Orton, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…the guy should remain in the midcard for the remainder of his career. Briefcase be damned! You just don’t reward a guy for breaking the rules. If any of us did somethign akin to what he’s done in wrestling by juicing, we’d not be given a second thought. We’d be hearing Vince’s 2 favorite words. Orton, by comparison, seems to have been given a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and who knows what number chance AND he’s still f’d them all up. Yet, here he is again, on the cusp of joining his idol, John Cena, in the main event for the umpteenth time.

    • TheBigKing1

Calm the f down. And who said he was juicing. He made mistakes like we all have. They didn’t push him as his punishment. Now they seem like they are ready. So what?

      • thepowerserge

How DO you fail a “wellness policy” test, oh kind sir? Please enlighten me. Of course pushing him isn’t a punishment! It’s quite the opposite. Will only serve to make things worse. If you paid enough attention to this site, you’d see that guys like Cena or Orton are given far better treatment for a violation than lower guys, such as Ricardo Rodriguez (for the same offense, no less). “He makes mistakes like we all have”…pretty general comment there. The difference between him and us is that you and I make mistakes and we’re either fired, jailed or otherwise punished and, hopefully, learn enough to not commit the offense again.

        • TheBigKing1

The policy is in place for getting suspended for 1 and 2 times, and fired after the 3rd. he didn’t commit the third…so why should he be fired. It was said there was a lot of backstage heat on him when he came back from his suspension…and he wasn’t going to be pushed. Now they said that his heat is gone and they are ready to push him now…hence why he got the MITB briefcase…so what’s your point? Because I don’t get it…I really don’t. You act like he never got punished for his actions…which he did, so what’s the problem?

  • sdunne87

Only thing I will miss from the brand extension will be the DRAFT, those were always interesting.

    • Tony_23

Totally agree! I used to love the draft

    • Vaneyscopaz

Wait a sec, if the brand extension is ending, doesnt that mean the draft is returning?

  • Wyatt

The IWC will never be happy. This is a perfect example. I remember before everyone was saying the brand extension was stupid and needed to end. You all got what you wanted and now you all say it should come back. Personally, I always liked the brand extension. I never wanted it to end because when Raw Supershow was still around, it was too jam packed just like it is now.

  • Vaneyscopaz

    KEEP SANTINO AWAY! PLEASEEE
