Wrestlemania 29 Highest-Grossing, Estimated Number Of Buys

WWE announced on Thursday that Wrestlemania 29 was their highest-grossing “Wrestlemania” of all-time. The event earned $72 million, with that figure including ticket sales and pay-per-view buys. Last year’s Wrestlemania XXVIII did $67 million in Miami.

Early buy rate estimates have the show at 1.2 million, which is less than the reported 1.3 million sold for Wrestlemania XXVIII last year but that number could increased as total purchases are still being tabulated.

This information resolves any disagreement folks had about Vince’s decision to headline part-timers in his ppv’s. So those of you that think the Rock and Brock were bad decisions and can’t wait to see them go, these are the #’s that keeps Vince from listening to you.

    • Khalid

      And the phenom ,B****!

    • lee

U should know that was a BS press release, just to make Vince look good.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/3GELHSGASCJYIWXCMKPUTAJ5HM Win

What information, excuse me, factual information do you have to back your claim? I’ll wait……

    • craig

i didnt have an issue with part timers just give us fresh matches like taker vs punk (was never close to this level years ago when they wrestled) or taker vs cena (same reason as with punk), rock vs brock, etc. mania is supposed to feel special and giving us rematches of matches that were not that good to start with isn’t as exciting.

      • lee

Fresh matches would have been great not rematches from last year, maybe Vince was thinking we would forget they fought last year.

  • craig

wrestlemania was sold out before any matches were announced due to being in the new york market so the big question i have is did it make more profit on ppv with rock and brock’s salary than wm28?

  • Whammaster

its kinda hard to not gross more when ticket prices were slightly more expensive then last year. This is more to stroke the ego then to actually release positive news from wwe.

    • Xavier

The 1.2 million has nothing to do with ticket sales, the 1.2 indicates ppv buyrates. If it’s true that WM29 did a 1.2 million ppv buyrate then that’s a huge financial success, and proves that a Cena/Rock rematch was in fact a huge draw. This may come as a surprise to most within the IWC but McMahon actually knows what he’s doing.

      • Smart Mark

Really? Really? Really? Cena vs Rock was a huge draw? So those statistics had nothing to do with the fact that Undertaker faced CM Punk? It had nothing to do with the fact that Brock Lesnar was at this years WM? Nothing to do with the fact that the Shield was at this years WM? Nothing to do with the fact nearly everyone wanted to see Ziggler cash in at Mania? Are you really going to single out that one match to prove that it was a big draw? Really?

        • Xavier

When did I ever say that Lesnar, Punk, Taker, HHH didn’t have anything to do with it? I simply stated that Cena/Rock 2 was still in fact a huge draw which by the way is true. Quit coming this page acting brand new, next time read everything carefully.

          • Smart Mark

You used the statistics given above to state that Rock vs Cena II was a huge draw, right or wrong? Making a statement like that is inacurrate because to claim that the match you are talking about was a huge draw would have to single out that one match as apposed to the others. You can’t make a statement like that unless that was the only match on the card. Therefore proving that i did read everything carefully but you are just too simple minded to know your saying.

          • Xavier

Actually I can make a statement like that, as a matter of fact I already did and I will again. Cena/Rock 2 is a huge draw. Nothing “inacurrate” about that statement at all. But what does inacurrate mean? Your not the only one who knows how to spell check. You should really get a life because sitting around trying to troll people is no way to live. Seeing how you call yourself a Mark that indicates that your probably a virgin. So go out and find yourself a chick fast.

          • Smart Mark

How is it a matter of fact? What is the fact you complete idiot. This site should have a “12+” age limit so you can’t get on here. You are most idiotic troll on here. Get off Cena’s D and start appreciating some real wrestling you mark.

From your reply are you sure you’re older than 12?

          • Xavier

LOL, your calling me a mark but you use that as your username smh. I see you your still virgin living in your mom’s basement. I see you had plenty of lotions & magazines to keep you entertained thru the night, good for you kid.

      • Whammaster

Did you read the article? The ppv drew less then it did last year. You cant tell me that Cena v Rock 2 drew, because it didn’t. The intrigue was there last year, it wasn’t this year.

        • Xavier

a 1.2 million pay per view buyrate says differently. If that number does in fact hold true then that would put this year’s WM in the top 4 all-time in terms of buyrates. So how is that not a draw?

    • Noelz

Tickets were more expensive as was ordering the ppv

      • http://www.facebook.com/richardleaf20 Richard Norman Welsh

Ordering the PPV was the same price as last year. Get your facts straight

        • Whammaster

Ordering the PPV in the states costed $10 more, i think it is you who needs to get thier facts straight.

          • http://www.facebook.com/richardleaf20 Richard Norman Welsh

Did you order it in hd?
