WWE Battleground 2014 Results – John Cena Retains, New IC Champion

Cole asks if Cena will be able to retain his title, or if we’ll be crowning a new champion tonight. This leads into a video package highlighting how Cena found himself in this situation after winning the titles last month.

Randy Orton is the first man to make his way to the ring for the main event of the evening. Randy doesn’t get much of a reaction out of the fans, who haven’t been all that active outside of the opener really.

Kane is out next, and the big red machine also gets very little response out of the audience.

Roman Reigns is out next, coming through the crowd down to the ring. Reigns gets a bit of love from fans, bringing them to life.

John Cena is out last, and the Champion (carrying both titles) gets a mixed reaction out of the crowd.

Justin Roberts gives us formal ring introductions for all four men, and we’re finally ready to being.

Cameron wins? Looks like this is going to be an interesting PPV. Not getting my hopes up too much on the booking

  • Smark Twain

WWE didn’t bother to build a set for Battleground for some reason.

  • Scott

Cameron wins and Harper/Rowan lose??? Whats with the booking tonight?!?!?!?

    • Smark Twain

Tonight? The booking has been baffling for a good long while now to the point where neither of the outcomes so far has even surprised me

  • Malboja

Ok so now I’m thinking is the rest of the show worth watching …..
    :/
Only hope left is when lesner destroys everyone to end the show

  • Scott

Ambrose/Rollins already? This should definitely be later!

  • Scott

    Do what now?!?!?!

  • Scott

WE BETTER STILL GET THAT MATCH!!!!

  • Smark Twain

Wait what? First Ambrose beaten off Raw and now this? I will be insanely pissed if I don’t my Ambrose fix tonight, especially since this is my most anticipated match tonight.

  • Dj Marvelouz

    what is up with paige

  • Smark Twain

Whatever story they are trying to tell in this match, I’m not getting it.

  • Scott

If they do not give us Ambrose/Rollins tonight, then theyre gonna have a real problem getting people to resubscribe to tbe network…….. Just sayin……

    • Scott Davies

It will be at Summer Slam & i’m glad they did what they did. Cause that makes want to see the match more. That is Old School booking & i think will make their match that much better.

  • ldb

Looking forward to Swag and Rusev. Get your American Flag s waving high and stand with your right hand over your heart and say in a loud proud voice
    WE THE PEOPLE!

  • Roger

Am I the only one frustrated how the Battleground set is the WWE set? Last years Battleground set was epic. So far Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, Money in the Bank, and now Battleground. I know a set doesn’t make the show good or bad but I don’t want to keep feeling like I’m watching Raw or Smackdown.

    • Scott

I know right!!!! Im starting to get all the PPVs mixed up! I miss sets like the old Backlash set etc!

      • Tom Mayer

I think they need to rename Battleground to “Budget Cut 2014″

    • Snap

So they’re going the WCW in its dying days route of using a single set for everything?

      • Roger

A lot like how TNA does every PPV lol

  • Avalanchian

Winner and STILL WWE Diva’s Champion: Paige …… What?

  • Dj Marvelouz

    unroll the flag swagger lol

  • Tom Mayer

“lets go swagger” never thought i’d live long enough to hear that… Or better yet, never thought he’d be employed long enough to hear that.

  • Smark Twain

So what’s the betting odds on Swagger injuring Rusev tonight?

  • Anon

The crowd has been so dead the entire PPV so far….

  • Scott

Ok so officially no Rollins/Ambrose, this show offically sucks!

    • Anon

      It’s a terrible PPV so far…and with #LOLCENAWINS still to come…

  • Smark Twain

Swagger needs some of that super sticky Shannon Moore gel for his hair. Also gonna go read the twitter backlash for no Ambrose/Rollins for some lulz.

    • Avalanchian

Well guess Rollins was more injured than what was given.

      • Smark Twain

Nah, thankfully we saw he wasn’t this past SmackDown. Just WWE shafting Ambrose for the umpteenth week in a row and is just gonna delegate him to running in and stopping Rollins’ cash-in later in the night most likely.

  • Anon

Worst PPV in a long time…if Summer Slam is another bust it makes you fear for the future of WWe…

    • Avalanchian

Don’t worry Y2Wyatt will save us!

      • jdl

You might want to try that is Wyatt2J. Putting the Wyatt on the front gives you to Y sounds, which is clumsy.

  • Smark Twain

The only positive thing I’ll take away from tonight is that hopefully we got Ambrose to release more Jon Moxley as he continues to get screwed.

  • Smark Twain

Wow talk about an uninspiring finish.

  • Anon

Battlefield confirmed the Wyatt Family as jobbers…congrats, WWE

    • Avalanchian

It was obvious Wyatt would lose. The story of why he is after Y2J isn’t out yet. Think of it like Cena vs Wyatt. Cena wins the 1st one and then Wyatt wins the next. Just there won’t be a 3rd time and if there is it will be Wyatt winning.

  • Smark Twain

    Save Us.BNB

  • Roger

I don’t want Sheamus to win. Idc for the middle tier titles to be unified. WWE has had two tier titles since the Attitude Era. At one point three. Intercontinental, European, and Hardcore Championships.

  • Avalanchian

Ziggler with the short end of the stick once again.

  • Xavier

Anyone catch what Cesaro said to Kofi?

    • Tom Mayer

      What did he say?

      • Xavier

He poked Kofi in the eye on purpose tossed him out and then called him a b****, very uncalled for.

        • Tom Mayer

Who was it that got cesaro in the eye a few weeks ago? was it kofi?

          • Xavier

Yeah, it was a accident though

          • Tom Mayer

One good turn deserves another I guess :/ Won’t do him any good to be in the dog house in the middle of his “push”

  • Stoney

Once again Ziggler gets screwed. Just glad Irish Cena or Juan Bland Latino didn’t win

  • Malboja

So how dose rusev go unbeaten and wyatt end up jobbers
    Really I don’t remember a ppv they won ?
Bored with uso’s bright coloured shirt and face paint cena twins for kiddies all they do is jump over the ropes badly and a few super kicks
The miz……. Aka captain boring given the mandatory title reign as a return gift

God I hope lesner comes out and kills every body at least I can then sleep with some knowledge that the world is only 99% insane
    :/

  • Malboja

    Lesner lesner lesner

  • _JIM_

Wasn’t Rollins hurt at a show recently? Maybe he just can’t go right now well enough to work a full match? Could be why they basically blew off their match tonight and why he didn’t have one on Raw either. Would make sense if it wasn’t anything too serious, but just has him unable to go for week or two.

    • Smark Twain

Rollins isn’t hurt, surprisingly WWE probably knows Rollins/Ambrose has insane potential and is just waiting to do it at Summerslam. It’s all just really crappy story progression.

  • Smark Twain

Feels like I’m watching a 3 hour SmackDown. The only way this won’t be a waste of 3 hours is if Lesnar destroys everyone in the main event tonight. Maybe some choice words from Heyman too but they’ll probably hold him off from speaking till RAW tomorrow.

  • Malboja

Yay cena is here …. I must go to .com and buy a cena shirt of this months colour and a hat and a new cena hand towel and some green armbands :D

Then I can have a bonfire in the garden lol

  • BlackLotus

im keeping up with the results on wnw but does anyone else think this ppv was rushed? there are seven matches on the card with Ambrose/Rollins being thrown out for unknown reasons. we are at the main event with little else happening other than a new IC champion (which was a given with BNB being injured).

  • The Dave

Del rio definitely went under the ropes before elimination

    • Tom Mayer

No one in their right mind should be questioning Del Rio’s elimination.. I would have been perfectly fine if he pulled a Gail Kim.

      • The Dave

I meant that he can’t even do that properly. I wish he’d do a Gail kim

        • Tom Mayer

If he tried to eliminate himself, he’d end up giving Ziggler a concussion trying to do it.

  • Splat

They are clearly just trying to get this PPV out of the way and get ready for SS.

  • Splat

    Both titles WTF?

  • Malboja

Aww cena could only hit four of his moves of doom

    I’m so upset lol

  • Malboja

If is paid for this I’d demand a refund

  • Scott

The crowd is clearly bored with this PPV

  • Tom Mayer

Not sure if pictures are allowed since i’ve never tried, but this ppv needs something entertaining to it. I am a Punk fan but this is still awesome lol.

  • Malboja

The big question is really are we going to see Rollins at the end of this ?

    • Smark Twain

Well he “drove off” so probably not. Let him deal with Ambrose while Triple H goes to “Plan C.”

  • Smark Twain

I think after this, they should scrap all PPV’s and stick to the “Big 4,” maybe bring back the great traditional ones like King of the Ring. They’re already using the SmackDown/RAW set anyways which in hindsight, was very deserving of Battleground.

    • Tom Mayer

I think the production values for this “PPV” were greatly exaggerated. They’d be better off using pre 2008(2009?) no tron live event productions.

  • Malboja

    Hoooooooaaaaaahhhh

    • Smark Twain

I love how the crowd imitates him so it sounds like Reigns is echoing throughout the arena.

  • Malboja

    Booooooooaaaaahhh lol

  • Malboja

I love when they wake up jump across the ring then lay down dead again :D

  • Malboja

    Rko

  • Malboja

    Called it

  • Malboja

    Booooooooooooooo

  • Malboja

    Lesner ?

  • Tom Mayer

OMG I NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED MUCH SUSPENSE MANY DRAMA

  • Malboja

Wow this crowd is pumped for the win lol

  • Malboja

    Aw crap

  • Malboja

I really feel I should sue wwe for the 3 hours of my life I just wasted

  • Tom Mayer

They should have added another match to the PPV… Cole’s full Diet Mountain Dew bottle vs. Triple H’s broom.

  • Malboja

Well peeps I am going to watch something more fun and unpredictable , maybe the wall there may even be a spider on it
Oooohhh the excitement I can’t wait lol
    Night all

  • Scott

    This PPV was unacceptably bad!!!!

  • Mr.V

Worst ppv since the network started. Lame, lame, lame!!!

  • Mr.V

Miz should have gone for the win … Zigler sees it and eliminates him … The crowd would have erupted!!!

    • Matt

I wish I could like this post a million times. That would have been the “perfect” ending to the match.

  • Joey

BORING……Best Match was The Uso’s vs Wyatts!

  • Smark Twain

I know the Summerslam poster is out, and its usually pretty colorful and festive, but this one should be the next poster from now on for every PPV ever (refresh page)

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bs8djfaCAAA5FVs.jpg

  • Splat

I’m not staying tuned for nothing Cole. That wasn’t good enough to watch an after show.

  • Chris Jacks

I have one major issue and that is the fact one of the advertised matches I paid my hard earned money to see: Rollins vs Ambrose didn’t even take place, I can understand you wanting to extend the program but there are much better and more creative ways that could have been achieved! However Wyatts vs Usos was fantastic, Jericho vs Bray was awesome, the battle royale was entertaining although some poor commentary as they totally failed to pick up on the fact that Miz was hiding outside till towards the end and completely missed the fact Ryback eliminated Axel! Swagger vs Rusev was good for the amount if time it was given and I think it’s great how much Swagger has gotten over since his face turn, I think they could have an awesome match at Summerslam if given enough time! And despite the main event of Summerslam already being spoiled I was able to forget that and enjoy a great match, Roman Reigns is an absolute BEAST and his time will come! If I had to grade it I would say B- I can understand people being legit annoyed about the Rollins vs Ambrose match not taking place but anyone saying the show sucked (which they are on the WWE Facebook poll) probably needs a new hobby!

  • SemiAwesomeGil

This is the second straight Battleground PPV that disappoints most fans. PPVs like these will not convince me to renew my subscription to the WWE Network.

  • Navin T. Ramkissoon

That PPV stunk. The Rollins and Ambrose segments were the only thing that I really enjoyed.

  • Linda George

Start working at home with Google! It’s by-far the best job I’ve
had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for
$6474 this – 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was
bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to

Vince needs to take full control of his company back…. HHH is running it into the ground…. If I am wrong then whomever is been running this for the past year and a half needs theor meds checked….. pathetic writing and creative… some bright spots… Like Wyatts and Usos but Moving Bray everywhere, Bringing lesnar back, missing the boat COMPLETELY with Cesaro(( yes I am a fan of Heyman, but Cesaro did not need)), the entire Daniel Bryan mess, forgetting about the women and letting the ones with actual looks and talent leave….. WWE needs to clean house and bring in people who have a clue… not as bad as TNA, but getting there

  • BigMike

Yep just as I said last time, HHH should not have the position he has in the company…. Screwiung the billion dollar princess should not be the only thing on a resume to get a job

  • WWE’s #1 fan

    Shout out to smarkville.

  • Xavier

Anyone complaning about the main event result tonight only has themselves to blame. Cena/Lesnar was advertised for Summerslam a good 2 months in advance, so if you knew that ahead of time and still choose to watch this PPV thinking that there would be different outcome should be mad themselves. Secondly, folks would of complained if Orton or Kane had won as well, and if Reigns would of won folks would be complaining that he’s not ready to be champ or that he’s just Cena 2.0. And besides Cena/Lesnar are by far the two biggest draws in the company so having then feud for the title at their 2nd biggest PPV which takes place in the 2nd biggest market in this nation makes all the sense in the world. C’Mon people lets stop complaining just for the sake of complaining.

    • Malboja

Outcome was expected was just hoping lesner would come out and lay waste to everyone after :/

    • Cubed56

I agree with everything you said. I’ve got no complaints about the outcome last night. Cena keeping the title was the right move, even if you could see it coming from miles away. However, the issue I keep harping on is the obvious predictability of WWE and IMO it’s really hurting them. They want to draw more people to the network, but why would any casual fan pay for that when they don’t religiously already watch the weekly programming and they can just go to dirt sheets and be told whats going to happen ahead of time, and low and behold 90% of the time that’s exactly what happens. Another issue is the lack of build to 3/4 of the ppv’s these days. When is the last time you can really recall an awesome build that captivated you and kept you on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the bitter end. You can mention DB, but even that got old and predictable. I admit, I may be way off base here, but as a huge fan of the WWE I find it harder and harder to keep myself involved and entertained with the predictability.

  • Scott Davies

I am thinking Brock going over to win the WWE Title at Summerslam is a stupid idea. Winning around Royal Rumble yes, but 8 months with out a Champion. Cause i don’t see Brock working more dates. I think Rollins should have cashed in on Cena & keep Brock away from the Champion till Rumble.

  • Jason Adams

PPVs like this one are used to further storylines and that’s exactly what they did. They are building for summerslam.
Btw i thought the tag match was awesome, one of the best tag matches in a while
