Second Report: WWE Raw House Show Results (11/13/08) - Belfast, Ireland
Written by Stephen Galbraith on Nov 16, 2008 - 4:40:51 PM
Wrestling News World reader Stephen Galbraith sent the following report:
Tony Chimel welcomed everyone to the show.
“Stone Cold “ Charlie Austin def. Snitsky via pinfall
Typical Charlie Haas impersonation match here, except with him winning, which surprised most in the arena, although there was quite a decent amount of “Charlie” chants throughout the match.
WWE Women’s Championship
Beth Phoenix (c) def. Candice Michelle via pinfall(Kelly Kelly – Special Referee, Mickie James – Special Timekeeper)
Good match here, went back and forth with Beth having frequent disagreements with the special ref Kelly, Candice came out to a very good pop, Beth won with her usual finisher, Kelly and Mickie attacked Beth after the match after Beth kept telling Kelly to raise her hand after the match.
Kane def. D’lo Brown via pinfall
D’lo didn’t get much reaction when he came out. I don’t think many of the fans knew who he was. Only the older fans who clearly remember him from the Attitude Era gave him any reaction. He cut a heel promo complaining that no one has noticed his return in the 5 months since he came back. He then said that he’d fight anyone from the back.
This led to Kane coming out to a large pop and they had a pretty decent match where D’lo worked on Kane’s legs for most of the match, but Kane eventually won after hitting a Chokeslam.
World Tag Team Championship
CM Punk & Kofi Kingston (c) def. Cody Rhodes & Manu via pinfall
Easily match of the night here. A very good tag team match. However the highlight was CM Punk using Eddie Guerrero’s three trademark moves, the dive over the ropes, Three Amigos and the Frog Splash. Punk eventually pinned Rhodes after hitting Rhodes with the Go 2 Sleep. Punk had one of the biggest pops of the night when he came out.
INTERMISSION
WWE Intercontinental Championship
William Regal (c) w/ Layla def. Santino Marella via pinfall
Regal came out to big heat and then he cut a promo running down Ireland and the fans, saying he represents England not Great Britain. Santino came out to a very large pop, he then said that even though he’s Italian, if he was Irish, that he would be proud.
They had a decent match, nothing special, although the crowd was very into Santino. Regal won after hitting Santino with a running knee.
Shawn Michaels def. JBL via pinfall
JBL came out to a large amount of heat, however he then cut an awesome promo where he ran down Ireland, the Irish (calling them monkeys!) and putting over the USA even asking for a American flag which he asked the referee and Tony Chimel to hold which he sang God Bless America, which got him enormous heat. The biggest amount of the night and there was even some trash thrown at him for doing this.
HBK then came out to the biggest pop of the night; they had a good, if short match which HBK won with Sweet Chin Music.
Rey Mysterio & Batista def. World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho & Randy Orton
All four got pops when they came out, with Batista getting the biggest one followed by Mysterio. Jericho got a good amount of heat after he cut a promo saying he was disgusted that the fans had signs that said that he and Randy Orton sucked and that if he was allowed, he would beat up everyone in the arena.
It was a good match with Rey taking most of the beat downs, even hitting a double 619 on Jericho and Orton before Batista pinned Orton after a Batista Bomb.
After the match Batista got on the mic where he spoke about that it was the 3rd anniversary of Eddie Guerrero’s death, saying that he knows that everyone including himself, Rey, all the boys in the back and the fans all still miss Eddie. Rey then said that he knows Eddie is looking down at all of us, smiling.
Batista then led an Eddie, Eddie chant before they then played Eddie’s entrance theme to end the night.
Overall a very good show, one of the best WWE has put in Belfast, highlights of the night was JBL’s awesome promo, the World Tag Team Title match and the emotional Eddie Guerrero tribute at the end of the night.
Biggest Pops
1: HBK
2: Batista
3: Rey Mysterio
Biggest Heat
1: JBL (During his promo)
2: Regal
3: Jericho (During his promo)
