Third Report: WWE Raw House Show Results (9/06/09) - Madison, Wisconsin
Written by Michael Radtke on Sep 7, 2009 - 10:23:12 AM
Wrestling News World reader Michael Radtke sent in the following report:
This was WWE's 2nd time in Madison this year at the Coliseum. Following January's show I reported on before the Rumble.
1 Chavo Guerrero Jr. vs Evan Bourne
Great Opener with fast paced action from both men. Chavo with lots of heat and Bourne was pretty over with a few chants going his way. Nice arm drags as well as dropkicks. They teased the AirBourne a few times as well as Evan reversing what looked to be Dean Malenko's old tope rope gutbuster. Ending came when Chavo hit the 3 amigos and went up top signaling the frogsplash pointing to heaven for Uncle Eddie, the crowd popped huge for this of course they weren't popping for that but Hornswoggle who suddenly appeared in the ring long enough to take Chavo's attention away and allow Evan to set him up for AirBourne for the win.
Winner - Evan Bourne Analysis - If this is were the Chavo/Hornswoggle feud leads I am all for it. Great action and Chavo is great at working with younger guys very similar to his feud with London in 2005
2 "Masterpiece" Chris Masters vs Alex Riley
No one knew Alex Riley, so his reaction was almost non existent. Ok encounter that suffered from no heat and Masters dominating him to get him in the Masterlock for the win. Masters got a pop the kind you get from beating a jobber. Alex held his own but was no match for the Masterpiece even though his build is similar.
Winner - "Masterpiece" Chris Masters
3 Sheamus vs Santino Marella
Santino Marella gets a nice pop from the Madison crowd. Sheamus came out which caught me by surprise since he isn't a part of RAW. Santino ran down Sheamus saying he didn't see him as he is white as a ghost. Calling him Casper and getting a GET SOME SUN chant going. This caused Sheamus to call him a joke. Sheamus dominated but then Santino took over and got his offense in. Hitting the ropes with his Power Jog and also his headbutt salute spot. Sheamus took over and hit his finisher for the win. After he left Santino whispered to Tony Chimel that he as ok which Chimel announced to us.
Winner - Sheamus
4 Beth Phoenix Rosa Mendes vs Gail Kim Kelly Kelly
Kelly gets the best pop here since she signed some autographs in the parking lot before the show. Good in ring action with Beth doing a presslam onto the top rope on Gail. Gail played face in peril while Rosa would sell Beths offense with a nice little wiggle. Nice when your partner does that for you. Anyway heels got sloppy when going for a double team. Beth ate the turnbuckles Bret Hart style front first. Allowing Gail to tag a fresh Kelly Kelly who pinned Rosa for the win.
Winners - Kelly Kelly Gail Kim
5 Mike "Miz" Mizanin vs Montell Vontavious Porter vs Kofi Kingston -
United States Championship Triple Threat
Miz comes out to boos. He gets on the mic and says that we don't know him. He has been to Madison WI before (Yeah I met him in January) and has done charity for children with AIDS. He has granted many make a wish kids wishes. Yet we still boo him. so you can chant Kofi Kofi all you want cue the fans chants or MVP all you want MVP MVP, (MIZ has them eating out of his hands) but it won't change the fact he will walk out of Madison, WI as United States Champion. "Because I'm the MIZ and I'm AWESOME. MVP is out next followed to Kofi who got the best pop of the 3 not to take away from MVP. Probably the match of the night as far as workrate. Miz bails out of the ring early as he lets Kofi and MVP battle it out. Miz of course enters in to break up the pinfalls. MVP and Kofi go the double team route. Hitting a nice double dropkick to get Miz out of the ring. Miz re-enters the ring MVP goes for a boot only the get crotched on the top rope. To the outside leaving Miz and Kofi for back and forth action. Then Kofi is sent out for awhile for Miz and MVP to have an exchange. Miz tried pinning each man and was getting frustrated. There was a really nice spot with the 3 men taking turns arm dragging each other. That went on for awhile and another pin sequence between the 3 of them trying different rollups and sunset flips that really grabbed the fans attention. Finish came when MVP went for the Play maker and Miz went for the Skull Crushing Finale but MVP replaced that and then Miz took him down. Kofi came back in Trouble in Paradise on Miz. Kofi picked up the win to retain the title and afterwards he and MVP shook hands outside the ring and raised each others arms.
Winner and STILL US Champion - Kofi Kingston
Intermission
6 Jack Swagger vs Mark Henry
Lots of stalling by Swagger including his pushups. Going back up the aisle way and staying outside as much as possible. Almost counted out he would only go in to break the count. Pulled Mark Henry down from the outside and smacked his leg repeatedly off the ring post. This gave Jack the opportunity to work the leg. Mark came back though and picked up the win with The World's Strongest Slam. This match could have been better without Swagger's stalling. I get the intimidation factor of Henry but Swagger stalled too long before the heat segment. At least his match was the only one with stalling. Still a decent contest though.
Winner - Mark Henry
7 Legacy vs Hunter Hearst Helmsley
Legacy comes out and runs down DX. Cody points out a DX sign. Saying obviously there are some DX fans here tonight, but those fans will be disappointed because this Sunday at Breaking Point they will beat DX so severely it will end their reign of terror. He said "Take a look around look at were you are seated because this Sunday DX could be tapping at that very spot of the building, because it's submissions count anywhere and that means DX could give up anywhere. Ted gets on the mic and says he sees the stupid Glow sticks of DX throughout the arena and those glow sticks have a lot in common with DX. Their life expectancy is short. The glow sticks will burn out before you get home and DX's life expectancy is this Sunday, because DX is old and we are young. DX is the past and we are the future. Triple H comes out to the biggest pop at that point. Madison loves DX and Triple H and to be fair he really gives the love back to the fans at the last few shows I've seen. Anyway Triple H hits a double clothesline and is dominant early on. Hitting a delayed suplex ala Daveyboy Smith on Cody Rhodes. Legacy take over with some classic spots of their fathers. Cody let it flip flop and fly with perfect Dusty mannerisms but before he could deliver the elbow he added a crotch chop and Triple H cut him off. Ted took control though and locked on the Million Dollar Dream. Trips seemed to be out but the fans rallied him back. Legacy sent him outside and Ted distracted the ref to allow Trips to hit the chairshot from the outside undetected on Cody. Followed up by Triple H clearing the rind and a pedigree on Cody for the win. Afterwards Legacy attacked Triple H to get their heat back. Jack Doan helped Triple to the back after they restored order.
8 Randy Orton v John Cena
Randy comes out just absorbing the heat walking ever so slowly to the ring. Iron Sheik at WrestleMania X-Seven would have beaten him to the ring. Then John Cena comes out to the pop of the night. The reactions he and Triple H got totally overpowered any other fan reaction anyone else got. Nice back and forth action that we have come to expect from the two. Orton going for the RKO and Cena trying to hit the FU (attitude adjustment, whatever) With both slipping out of each. Orton couldn't see Cena, and Cena hit the FU only for Legacy to run in. 3 on 1 assault. The crowd pops big as Triple H is back to make the save. Pedigree on DiBiase and FU to Cody as Orton escapes with his life and title intact. Both men show each other respect. Shaking hands and raising each others arms. Cena whips his arm bands to the crowd. He and the Game slap hands around ringside. Cena quickly exits. Triple H takes the time to shake more hands up the aisle way and say something special to the kids. I really am not the hugest fan but man if this guy doesn't go out of his way to thank the fans and let them know he appreciates them. HHH goes backstage and comes back to slap even more hands even shaking hands with my friend I couldn't get access to him. He salutes everyone and that caps off a great show. Security was really rude and I wish some superstars were more accessible and fan friendly but that is minor gripes. Good show thanks WWE and Richard
Winner by DQ - John Cena
