WWE House Show Results
Birmingham, Alabama
January 16, 2010
Santino Marella def. Chavo Guerrero by pinfall in the opener. Good comedy match with some nice spots. Got the ball rolling.
Paul Burchill def. some developmental guy named John Curtis or something like that. Curtis did a promo about how he's going to make a big splash and then got squashed. Interesting to see Burchill playing the babyface.
The Miz gave an AWESOME promo and won a triple-threat, pinning Jack Swagger to retain his U.S. title. Chris Masters was the face in the match and had some good strongman spots, but Miz carried the match and got great crowd reax.
Legacy def. Evan Bourne and Mark Henry by pinfall. Cody Rhodes drew Henry away from the ring and up the ramp, leaving Ted Dibiase FTW over Bourne.
Hornswoggle had a short appearance throwing glow sticks and T-shirts from the ring. Gail Kim came out to ask a trivia question that allowed some kid to be a guest bell-ringer for a match.
The Bella Twins def. Maryse and Alicia Fox. One Bella pinned Fox.
Big Show def. MVP after a choke slam. You have to see Show in person to appreciate just how big the man really is. Wow.
After intermission, Randy Orton def. Kofi Kingston with an RKO -- actually, his second. Kofi survived the first RKO with a 2 3/4 count but got taken out by the second. Very good match with back-and-forth action. Randy's entrance and his ability to draw heat and keep every eye on him is incredible to see live, as are his facial expressions and selling ability.
In the main event, Triple H def. Sheamus by DQ in a modern-day version of the Dusty (Rhodes) finish. Sheamus mostly dominated, Triple H battled back and seemed to have the upper hand for a minute but Sheamus beat him back down.
When Sheamus couldn't get the pin, he went out of the ring and grabbed a chair. When ref Scott Armstrong tried to take it from him, Sheamus tossed him out of the ring. Sheamus turned around to use the chair but walked into the pedigree. Alternate ref came running down the ramp and counted 1-2-... and just before he hit 3, Armstrong staggered his way back into the ring and called for the bell for the DQ, allowing Sheamus to retain.
Hunter brought out the sledgehammer after the finish to knock Sheamus out cold.
