WWE Raw/ECW House Show Results - 4/12/2008
Cardiff, Wales
Greetings From the Sold out Cardiff International Arena leg of the Raw WrestleMania Revenge Tour. Place is jam packed, Ring and entrance seem a little squashed together but its not exactly the biggest place. Fans of all ages here, Majority seem to be younger fans all wearing John Cena t-shirts.. Hope they don’t go home disappointed. Biggest Merchandise seems to be Y2J, Cena and DX Shirts. Fun Note for later Some guys down the front row have a huge Y2J sign That reads Y2J SAVED US (it will make sense later) and there’s another guy dressed like the Undertaker, not sure if he knows he’s at the wrong show pretty sure I saw him leave at intermission.
Everyone is seated on time and the show kicks off at around 7:45 little earlier than expected.Lillian Starts us off and tries to get the crowd warmed up for the show ahead she then introduces Raw general Manager William Regal who come out to huge amount of heat from the Welsh crowd. A chorus of Boo’s and insults rain through the CIA. He says that despite the ever-warm welcome he gets from the Welsh he will give us one hell of a show. He then announces that our three Main Events will be Mickie James vs Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix, Chavo Guerrero vs. ECW Champion Kane and finally UMANGA (yes he did pronounce it like that) and WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. Y2J Chris Jericho and Triple H. He wraps it up and then leaves to some cheers and a let’s go Regal chant.
Match No 1: - Paul Burchill w/ Katie Lea vs. Val Venis
Burchill & Lea come out to a mixed reaction mainly boo’s seems us welsh are not to fond of the English. Venis comes out to quite a big pop does his whole towel thing and gives it to one of the women down the front. Pretty solid match with a lot of technical wrestling and near falls. But eventually Burchill gets the win with his Face stomp thing (which looks just as vicious live as it does on the TV) Him and Katie celebrate as Val does a real good job of selling his face injury and eventually leaves after waving to the crowd a lil.
Match No2:- Santino Marella vs CM Punk
Santino comes out first to a lot of Heat but a few cheers. He Gets on the mic and starts to Rip on the welsh. He says that he likes to research the culture of wherever he goes as he is a superstar and travels around the world but the Welsh have absolutely Nothing. He then claims that he was wrong we have one thing Boxer Joe Calzaghe (Undefeated Undisputed current WBO, WBC, WBA super middleweight champion if your not a boxing fan) and that he is nothing but an Italian reject. He says his name is nothing over in Italy its not respected, spat on and they threw him out. This guy is really funny and knows what to say to get a crowd on his back. Before he can go on, CM Punk who Gets a Huge Pop from the Cardiff crowd and enters the ring MITB Briefcase in hand interrupts him.Another very good match with some funny spots such as Santino Missing his falling head but. Punk Picks up the win with the GTS and gets another huge Crowd reaction and celebrates with fans at the end. Santino eventually gets up as well and forces the ref to raise his hand and he then celebrates in ring to more boo’s. This guy is good.
Match No3: - Carlito vs Brian Kendrick
Carlito and Kendrick both come out to very little crowd reaction really. Kendrick does have the crowd behind him though after Carlito talks some smack to the kid’s at the front.Fast Paced match with a few high flying spots. Carlito picks up the win with Backstabber.
Match No4:- Snitsky vs The Canadian Bulldog DH Smith
Quite a bit of heat for Snitsky and a lot of Brush your Teeth chants. DH gets a little crowd reaction but hardly anything.Dh Smith starts off strong and teases a running powerslam basically from the off but then it turns into a huge squash. Snitsky with a pump handle slam for the win in the quickest match of the night.
Match No5 :- World Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly Vs Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch.Nice Heat for Cade n Murdoch and also a nice Pop for our Tag Champs. Funny spot at the start some people in the far corner were throwing insults at Murdoch and he went a little crazy and tried to jump the railings at them. Kids in the front row looked really scared.Another good match with Cody do most of the match with Cade & Murdoch getting rolling fast tag’s in and isolating him for a large part of the match. He reverses a suplex from Cade. Both Rhodes and Cade go for the tag’s and Rhodes Finally gets the hot tag to Holly who cleans house. Cade tries to get back in but is quickly taken care off by Rhodes. Holly with the Alabama slam for the win.More interestingly after the match Cade and Murdoch start to argue over how they lost. Cade Blames Murdoch and starts to shout at him some more for costing them the titles. Murdoch then gets very annoyed and leaves Cade standing in the ring alone. Teasing a possible break up maybe?
Lillian comes out and announces the Intermission.
Straight after that Playboy cover Girl Maria comes out quite a big pop to throw some t-shirts out to crowd. Mickie James music hits and she comes down a decent crowd reaction and helps Maria dish out the t-shirts. Theres none left except for the one Maria happens to be wearing just as Mickie goes over to help her take it off. The Glamazon's music hits much to the dislike of the male fans in attendance.
Match No6: - Womens Champion Beth Phoenix vs Mickie James
Used this match as my Toilet/Drink break so didn’t see any of it except for the end. Beth hits her finisher and gets the win. Mickie sells Really well as she is helped ut of the arena.Match
No7: - ECW Champion Kane Vs Chavo Guerrero
Chavo Comes out to some Huge heat from the welsh fans. A lot of Chants thrown his way which he just lapped up. Kane’s music hits to a very big pop from the crowd. Match doesn’t get underway for a bit, Chavo is insulting the fans at ringside and refuses to get into the ring with Kane. A very good match here from both competitors. And My Match of the night. A lot of Near falls and Teasing finishers. Including Two chokeslams , The three amigo’s , the tombstone and the Frog splash. Chavo Dominates the match from the off after fussing about and getting a 9 count because he was still to scared to get back into the ring with the Big Red Machine. Chavo works the left knee of Kane, which he does a great job in selling. Match ends when Chavo is caught mid-air in the frog splash and gets chokeslamed for the 3. Kane retains and gets another big pop from the crowd. On a side note hope their match at Backlash can live up to this.
Match No8:- Main event – WWE Champion Randy Orton & Umaga Vs Y2J & HHH
A lot of heat for Umaga as he enters the ring. Orton Comes out to a lot of heat at first but then turns into a more mixed reaction as the Orton Fans kick it up a gear. Y2J Comes put to the second biggest pop of the night as the crown goes crazy for their saviour. And the Biggest Pop of the night goes to HHH as he Blows the roof off as his music hits , never heard anything like it. Very funny spot at the Start of the match. As I said Earlier Some guys in the front row have a Huge Y2J sign which Orton takes a disliking to so rips it up in front of Jericho. Umaga also must of missed lunch as he starts to snack on the sign as well. Jericho then gets on the mic and says that Orton is just jealous because he only has 2 signs where as he has 1 huge one and a lot more. He then says that one of his signs he’s standing there posing like a gay underwear model and his other sign simply reads “ Orton Sucks”. Y2J gets the crowd going again with an orton sucks chant. Another Very good match. Again Jericho and Umaga & Orton work most of the match with HHH on the sideline willing Y2J on. A lot of good spots in the match again including some fighting on the outside. Y2J Locks in the Walls of Jericho on Orton in the centre of the ring but Umaga interrupts with the Samoan Spike.Finishes comes when after being isolated for a long time Y2J gets the hot tag and HHH cleans house. He’s about to hit the Pedigree on Orton when again Umaga interrupts. Y2J has got it covered this time and hits the codebreaker out of nowhere to take care of him and Orton walks straight into a pedigree as HH and Y2J pick up the win. Faces Celebrate and pose for the crowd and Lillian says they love coming here and hope to be back again.
Overall a fantastic show by the WWE. A lot of the fans would of like to have seen Cena personally I would of liked For Kennedy to be there but both have Movie commitments.
