WWE Raw House Show Results - 4/16/2008
Vienna, Austria
Hey there,
I would like you all to know what went down on the WWE WRESTLEMANIA REVENGE TOUR show on April 16th, 2008 in Vienna Austria.
The event took place in the “Wiener Stadthalle” which means something like Vienna City Hall. The place was totally sold out since it was the first time RAW came to Austria since the early 90’s which means about 16,000 people witnessed it. Lilian was introduced first and got a really big ovation. She started with “Hallo Wien” what means hello Vienna in German and gave us some examples of matches to come.
First match was William Regal vs. D.H. Smith.
Nice match, the crowd was into every move of every match of the evening. I allowed myself to save my voice a little for the later matches. Regal won after 7 minutes or so after countering D.H.’s move by kicking him right into the face.
After every match when Lilian would come into the ring and announce the next one people would cheer their heads off like she was the only woman left on earth. I guess she felt pretty abashed after some time since she got more reaction than most of the midcarders. An “Ausziehen” chant went down meaning something like “undress” or “we want puppies”.
Santino Marella and Carlito were introduced. Santino was booed while Carlito was pretty over and sometimes even got a Carlito chant. They and Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch, Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly had a nice Triple Threat Tag Team match. You
could hear “Cody Rhodes” and “Hardcore” chants during this one. What was interesting here was that Trevor and Lance appealed pretty much scaled-down meaning many had the feeling they had thinner feet and arms than the months before. I wonder if that has anything to do with the WWE drug testing policy.
Paul Burchill vs. Val Venis was next and since short quite nice.
Burchill surprisingly had a few nice moves which also were applauded. Venis was over and kissing girls in the crowd.
In a Divas Tag Team contest Katie Lea Burchill and the Beth Phoenix faced the team of Maria and the new WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James. Good match and a lot of fan reaction as well.
After the break Snitzky came in followed by Umaga who got a huge ovation. Their opponents were Paul London and Brian Kendrick. London was nicely over as well but Umaga stole the show. People were yelling “U-U-Umaga” during the whole match. Snitzky came in and they booed. He went out and they yelled. Umaga came in – yelling – out – booing. They repeated that several times just to test the reaction - quite a funny situation. Snitzky gave it up and let Umaga do almost the whole job. Kendrick got pinned in the end following a Samoan Spike.
Lilian then mentioned that the WWE RAW European Tour went through England, Ireland, France, Spain and Switzerland but we here in
Austria were by far the loudest crowd! Now that was a cool thing to here if you were an Austrian!
Intercontinental Championship was on the line when
Chris Jericho defended the title against JBL. JBL sang God Bless America and stated it was written by Irving Berlin and that Austria is a little country which nobody gives a damn about and which is protected by America. I thought it was really funny and the people were booing the man you had troubles understanding what he sang. Y2J got almost if not the biggest pops of the evening. The Codebreaker ended the match and Y2J took plenty of time feeding the crowd and made sure he touched every fan’s hand that stood by the railings and even handed the IC Belt to some fans, turned around and let WWE photographers take pictures of them.
Lilian then mentioned that the entire event was taped to show all over the world how great the fans in Austria are. I don’t know if they do that everywhere they go but it felt good to hear. She than asked us to rise and give a round applause to show how loud we can be. By that time I am sure everyone had a sore throat but once again we gave it all. She thanked us “Dankeschön” in German and introduced the Main Event.
WWE Champion Randy Orton put his title on the line against
Triple H. Hunter was right on top of the four most popular people of the evening besides Y2J, Umaga and Lilian. Orton got a mixed reaction first but then only got booed. Unfortunately Hunter did not win the title since Randy got disqualified because William Regal came out and attacked Triple H after a Pedigree followed by a pin. Randy left but after Regal got a Pedigree personally from the man who invented it, Triple H got him back into the ring and pedigreed him as well. A triumphant winner posed with the belt although he actually did not win it. Hunter did not leave until he tagged every fan around the ring and on the way out. I think it was really a good show and the crowd was even louder compared to the Smackdown / ECW show last year right here in Vienna due to the sold out arena.
That’s it folks, I will try to report you every event held here in Austria!
