WWE Raw House Show Results (11/15/08) - Aberdeen, Scotland
Written by Chris on Nov 16, 2008 - 4:26:56 PM
WNW reader Chris sent in the following report:
Hey guys,I was at the Sold Out Press & Journal Arena in Aberdeen last night for the last Raw show on the European Tour.
Here's what went on:
Rowdy Charlie Piper b. Snitsky
Charlie Haas got the show started with a huge pop coming out in the North of Scotland dressed as Rowdy Roddy Piper, kilt and all! Plenty of Brush Your Teeth chants for Snitsky and Scotland chants for Haas/Piper! "Piper" picked up the win after a roll up.
Beth Pheonix b. Candice Michelle
Mickie James was special guest referee and Kelly Kelly was timekeeper. This match took forever to get started as Beth was refusing to give Mickie her belt then refused to let Mickie check her for weapons, etc. Sections of the crowd felt this match took way too long to get started. When it did it was OK. Candice has certainly worked off that ring rust she had after her injury as she looked really good. False finish 3/4 of the way through when Beth was arguing with Mickie and Candice rolled her up for what appeared to be a 3 count. Mickie's hand hit the mat and Beth rolled out with that stunned look she had last time she lost. The kids ran to the barrier thinking a title change had happened but the match just continued! Beth eventually hit her finisher for the win to retain. She was going to pick on Candice then leave but Kelly threw her back into the ring before Mickie threw her out again and Mickie, Kelly & Candice hugged in the ring before leaving.
Jamie Noble b. D-Lo Brown
Brown out 1st to cut the promo he seems to have done throughout the tour about not being noticed and issues an open challenge to anyone in the back. Brown did hit the Lo Down at one point but when he went to the top rope Noble reversed and eventually picked up the win. Crowd wasn’t really into this one, although Noble did get a few chants.
CM Punk & Kofi b. Cody Rhodes & Manu
I only realized during the match that this was the 1st time I've seen
Manu in a match. Hope to see him in many more as he looked solid. Huge pop for Punk & Kofi. Not as many of the high spots that have been reported from other shows but a good match which ended with Kofi hitting Trouble In Paradice on Rhodes to retain.
Rey Mysterio b. Kane (No DQ Match)
Crowd firmly behind Mysterio, lots of 619 chants. Back & forth match, in and out of the ring. Chairs, stairs & bins all used. Both had their finishers reversed before Rey hit the 619 then a tadpole splash off the top rope (not over the ropes like he usually does) for the win. Good match. Kane spent some time in the ring after Rey left, smashing a chair up against the stairs.
Intermission
William Regal w/ Layla b. Santino
Regal came out to a lot of heat and cut a promo saying this was his idea of hell - being surrounded by 3,000 Scots. Cue a lot of Scotland chants! Santino came out to a huge pop and said that although it is no secret he is from-a Italy, if he were Scottish he would be proud. He then hit Regal on the head with the mic to start the match. Crowd alternated between Scotland & Santino chants. Layla got involved when Santino was down in the corner before Regal hit his knee to the head to retain. I would have actually liked to see this match go on for longer. They are both really good workers and were having a good match before the abrupt end!
Shawn Michaels b. Randy Orton
Orton out 1st and actually got a face pop from most of the crowd. Then the younger ones realized he was facing HBK and he became a heel again! Good match, back and forward. Michaels hit his elbow off the top rope. Match ended when Orton went for the RKO, was pushed off the ropes and came back into Sweet Chin Music. This was possibly the match with the best atmosphere as the younger section of the crowd were very much behind Michaels, but their HBK chants were being countered by RKO ones from the older audience!
Chris Jericho b. JBL & Batista (Triple Threat Match)
JBL out 1st to cut a heel promo. Funny moment to start as he took slight offense at being billed at 295lb on his entrance. Said he was 234 and 1/4! He then cut his promo, Saying that Scots worship William Wallace - a man who was killed by the enemy whilst fighting. In America he would be called a loser. Scotland thinks that Wallace fought for their freedom but look, England owns you. Tonnes of heat for that one and the loudest Scotland chant of the night. He finishes by saying that he and Jericho have formed a loose alliance to take out Batista. Then does some very Flair-esque moves putting his hat on the ground (he wasn't wearing a jacket!) and bouncing off the ropes to elbow drop next to the hat! JBl actually looked like he had had 1 too many coffees before he came out! He was jumping up and down and stomping about, even when Jericho came out to repeat what he had said about forming a team to take out Batista. Batista himself then comes out the biggest pop of the night. Match starts with Jericho & JBL ganging up on Batista who fights back. They eventually get him down and Jericho boots JBL outside. Batista gives JBL a spinebuster then goes to the ropes to pump up for a Batista Bomb. Jericho comes in and hits him with the belt then covers JBL for the win. After the match Jericho was taunting Batista which resulted in him being on the receiving end of a Batista Bomb. Batista then got a Scotland flag and wore it to go to the 4 corners of the ring then got on the mic to say that he wears the flag of every nation he goes to, not to get a cheep cheer as the crowd will do that if they want themselves, but to thank them for coming out tonight, and for supporting them from afar the rest of the time. He says the tour has been amazing but it's been a long 2 weeks and there's nowhere like home. He then found the guy who threw the flag to him to give him it back (nice touch I thought!) and left the ring. He hung around for a while high fiving just about everyone in the crowd before leaving.
Overall a good night and, I thought, very well booked as Haas' new gimmick was a perfect opener and the matches gradually got bigger and the crowd got more and more into it as the night went on.
