WWE SmackDown/ECW House Show Results - 4/18/08
Newcastle, England

Teddy Long kicks us off by announcing some of the matches for the night: Finlay, Hornswoggle and Batista will be in action, Triple Threat for ECW Title Chavo, CM Punk and Kane, The Great Khali will meet The Big Show and in our Main Event Undertaker will be taking on Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship. Can I get a Holla Holla Holla!

1. Kofi Kingston def. Shelton Benjamin
Good solid match to start the night.

2. Mark Henry def. Tommy Dreamer
Worst match of the night, Dreamer did get some offense in but mainly all Henry. Dreamer sells his beat down well after the match.

Eve Torres is introduced and plugs the merchandise before throwing out some freebie shirts to the crowd, when all gone says she has 1 left and is about to take her top off when Victoria comes down. Victoria berates the crowd then attacks Eve ripping
her shirt off and beating her down. Eve eventually comes back and sends Victoria off running to the back before regaining her now ripped shirt and throwing it to the crowd.

3. WWE Tag Team Champions The Miz and John Morrison def. Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore. Morrison knights Miz before the match using a kendo stick, arise Sir Miz. Good 5 minutes worth of comedy from these 2 before the challengers make their entrance. Good match and nice work from all four men. Nice moment when a hurt Morrison crawled over to Miz at the ropes and clung to him with Miz patting his head, takes a few seconds for Miz to realise that Morrison has his face in his crotch. One of a handful of matches that got the crowd into it at times.

4. Jamie Noble def. Kenny Dykstra
Average match with a couple of good spots. I do think Dykstra is one for the future.

5 ECW World Champion Kane def. CM Punk and Chavo Guerrero (Triple threat Match) One of the better matches on the card saw near falls from GTS, frog splash and chokeslam. No 3 amigos tonight. All three men interacted well together. Kane won it with double chokeslam

There was a fifteen minute intermission.

6. Finlay (w. Hornswoggle), Matt Hardy and Batista def. Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder and United States Champion MVP. MVP talked trash to the crowd before the match Funniest match of the night but a good wrestling match also. Hornswoggle did a great impersonation of MVP jewelery and all. Water pistols also came into play first from Hornswoggle when cornered on his own in ring to fend off Hawkins, Ryder and MVP, then by Finlay, Hardy and Batista in coming to Hornswoggles aid. Celebration in ring afterwards with Hornswoggle running in circles and jumping and clicking his heels, Finlay joins in. Then Hornswoggle notices Batista is holding his hat so takes it off him and puts it on Batista's head and invites him and Hardy to join him. The sight of Batista running in circles and jumping and clicking his heels while wearing Hornswoggles hat was definitely amusing.

7. The Big Show def. The Great Khali
Surprising good match from these two. Mainly slugging it out between each other but not the hash I thought it would be. Big Show won with an impressive chokeslam.

8. World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker def. Edge
Easily match of the night and a good 20-25 minutes long. Well paced match with high spots in the right places. False finishes (that fooled many of the kids in attendance who went rushing to the guard rails only for a 2 count) before Taker won with a Tombstone.

I'm not one for noting crowd reaction but CM Punk, Batista, Matt Hardy and Undertaker probably got biggest pops. Heat was on MVP after his trash talking also Edge and Chavo.

Overall great show though the crowd was really quiet all night which was disappointing. Nice to see the main stars of the show and also to see them working really well in the ring. Was disappointed not to see more Divas, no Kelly Kelly or Michelle McCool.

One thing I noticed, not sure if it is usual practice but Charles Robinson was pulling double duty as both referee and ringside photographer.
