WWE SmackDown House Show Results (11/12/08) - Nottingham, England

Written by Ashley Leary on Nov 16, 2008 - 4:38:12 PM

Wrestling News World reader Ashley Leary sent the following results:

Carlito and Primo Colon def Miz and Morrison to retain their tag team titles.

Good Match to open the night with and Morrison drawing good heat from the crowd with ‘Nottingham Bashing’. The crowd were hot for the Colons but the women were going wild for Morrison.

The Great Khali def MVP.

Quick match here to carry on MVP’s losing streak. Again good heat from MVP by ripping on Robin Hood. Good cheer for Khali but you can tell his knees are hurting him. He is really, really big in real life.

Shelton Benjamin def R-Truth and Chavo Guerrero to retain his US Title.

Fast paced match with some good spots from all three guys. R-Truth keeping the crowd buzzing with his rapping intro and a very entertaining segment from Chavo on the mic daring Truth to kiss random woman in the crowd, making Shelton feel sick. Shelton eventually pinned Chavo to keep the belt.

Michelle McCool and Maria def Natalya and Maryse.

Token divas match but nice to see Maria still getting some ring time since her move to Smackdown. Natalya is a really solid and stiff worker (not surprising considering her pedigree) and I think she could do with the belt and a character makeover sooner or later. Maryse was good at getting heat from the crowd, well, the females anyway. Michelle McCool pinned Natalya for the win.

Finlay w Hornswaggle def?

I think the jobber could’ve been some relation to the Honky Tony Man as he had a decent sized quiff and big side burns, also Hornswaggle mocked him with an Elvis/Honky style hip shake, although I can’t be certain. Either way he was a good worker and knew how to draw good heat from the crowd. Very stiff with Finlay who as expected was twice as stiff back.

After Finlay picked up the win, he went and pulled kids out the audience and also some guy in the front dressed as a leprechaun to come and dance in the ring with him and hornswaggle. This was a brilliant move by them and the crowd loved it, even giving the pair a massive clap. They also threw T-Shirts into the crowd.

Matt Hardy def Mark Henry w Tony Atlas to retain the ECW Title

Not sure why Mark Henry was in a title match here when Finlay is the number 1 contender but hey, anything can happen in a house show! Decent match but nothing special as we’ve seen it before. Matt Hardy is incredibly over with the crowd.

The Brian Kendrick w Ezekiel def Kung-Funaki

Quick match to liven everyone up after the interval and it did the job. Both guys really athletic with Kendrick getting some good jeers from the crowd. Ezekiel stood really close to use at the front and took our ‘babysitter’ chants well, even flipping the guy next to me off after the match.

Jeff Hardy def Vladimir Kozlov via DQ

Vladimir is a monster. He looks even bigger than on telly and is really quick for a big guy. Jeff hit all his usual spots but looked absolutely knackered. I think filming two smackdown shows on Tuesday night may have taken its toll in him as he looked really worn out at the end of the match. Match finished when Vlad hit Jeff with the chair. Obviously keeping his roll going into survivor series without a defeat and making sure the fan favourite won the match.

HHH def the Big Show

Final match of the night and you could sense the disappointment in the air as the crowd realised that the Undertaker wasn’t going to be there. But that was soon forgotten as HHH’s entrance music blasted out. The crowd went absolutely nuts for the Game. To be fair, the Big Show got a good mixed reaction with more cheer than boo’s. If he wants to get over as a heel he needs to do something really bad, maybe eat Hornswaggle or something.

Anyway, again a really solid match by the two veterans and some good spots for the crowd. HHH got the win after a failed choke slam reversed to Pedigree.

After the match HHH stayed for about 10 mins to pose and sign programmes which I thought was really good.

Overall I thought this show was as good as the Raw house show I was in April. Small touches like the Finlay and Hornswaggle dancing made it really enjoyable for my small cousin as well and the kind of interaction from more stars with the Mic you don’t normally see on TV went down well. Apart from Taker being absent this was a really good show.

Biggest Pops
1) HHH
2) Matt Hardy
3) Jeff Hardy
4) Finlay & Hornswaggle
5) The Colon Brothers

Biggest Heat
1)Vladimir Kozlov
2)Mark Henry
3)MVP
4)Miz and Morrison
5)Big Show
