WWE Issues Statement On Using Vladimir Putin's Name In Storylines

WWE issued the following statement to The Daily Beast regarding the use of Vladimir Putin's name with Lana and Rusev:

“WWE programming, like Hollywood movies and television shows, is an exciting blend of action, characters and fictional storylines of good versus evil that are often inspired by pop culture and current events. Russian President Vladimir Putin has given us good material to work with to create strong characters in Rusev and Lana, who are perceived as either protagonists or antagonists depending on where in the world you are watching WWE programming.”

I’m not certain but I can’t imagine Russian viewers being super happy and cheering Lana as a face when she is made up like a sterotypical Soviet character from a Command & Conquer game.

This is how I see Rusev and Lana. They are the Russians from the Rocky 4 movie. Maybe when Daniel Bryan comes back he can be the Rocky and give him a loss. Then you never hear from them again.

I bet WWE are really regretting that decision to call Rusev “The BULGARIAN Brute”…

I think it’s hilarious and is based off a bad spy movie. It does what it’s intended to do which is make you hate Rusev

The whole “bad guy from Russia” angle is so f’n dated… Why they went in that direction, I don’t know. Nobody had a problem with the “Bulgarian Brute” angle in the first place. It was unique. Now they want to continue with the Nikolai Volkoff gimmck… It’s not even Vladmir Kozlov’s Russian angle; and he’s Russian!

For some reason I find it hilarious every time Putin appears on the tron. Makes the segments worth watching.
