WWE Network Launching In The First Quarter Of 2014? (Updated With WWE Statement)

We reported earlier this week that WWE has scheduled an exclusive event on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas with Vince McMahon. The word going around is that will have something to do with the proposed WWE Network.

Details remain sketchy but apparently the idea is an announcement in January and a launch some time in the first quarter of next year. While February 2014 is the general assumption for a launch date, we cannot confirm that at this time.

Furthering speculation is the impending discontinuation of WWE Classics On Demand.  We broke the story here on WrestlingNewsWorld.com that WWE will pull the plug on the service on January 31, 2014.  This drew a response from WWE, confirming the service would not exist beginning in February but that no launch date for the proposed WWE Network had been set.

10:50 AM EST UPDATE: WWE has requested we attach the following statement, as they are not ready to commit to a launch date, format of distribution and the role of pay-per-view:

“In addition to not being able to confirm timing of WWE Network launch, WWE is still considering all options for distribution, pricing and role of pay-per-view.”

End update.
