The decision to have an all Divas edition of WWE NXT was a last-minute change in an effort to garner better ratings for the series in hopes of securing a new television deal. WWE had already done pre-tapes with a Season 3 cast that included four male workers and four female workers. The internal hope is the six Diva cast will boost interest with the premiere of a 6'7 Diva.
As noted yesterday, SyFy is dropping NXT in favor of Smackdown because of the struggling ratings done by WWE NXT. Officials were disappointed with ECW but WWE pitched NXT at them, promising a better performance. Not only has that not happened, NXT has actually performed lower in the ratings.
If WWE NXT is not picked up by a network following Season 3, it faces either being incorporated into Raw or Smackdown or airing on the official WWE website. WWE will have more options when they launch their cable network in the first part of 2011.
