Richard Reacts To WWE Selling Out Matt Hardy

Written by Richard Gray on Sep 14, 2010 - 2:56:59 PM

With confirmation from a WWE spokesman (coming via NewsDay.com writer Alfonso Castillo) indicating Matt Hardy was indeed pulled from Sunday's house show in Butlins, Skegness, England as well as the previous week's show in White Plains, New York, Hardy is the one left with "egg on his face" and issues of his own credibility can now be raised.

While we weren't the only publication to print a story that Hardy had been "sent home early" from WWE's United Kingdom tour, we were the only publication to completely remove it until further details could be revealed. I woke up early on Monday morning to discover my phone and email being blown up with links to the now infamous YouTube video accompanied with complaints from readers questioning our credibility for posting what some were calling "fake news".

I have a tremendous amount of faith in the sources that provide us with information but when news indicating the contrary to what we reported came from Hardy himself, I acted in good faith and posted his video immediately and mentioned that we had removed our story. My exact words were, "Matt Hardy has refuted an earlier report that he was sent home early from WWE's European tour. We were told yesterday afternoon he was sent home early because company officials were worried about his health. Since Hardy's YouTube video, we've killed our story until we are able to check further into the situation."

Now that I know the person that told me the story was correct and Matt Hardy was treating everyone that ran the story like idiots because he was still in England despite being pulled from the show makes me wonder his motives. While he has an obvious axe to grind with one pro wrestling website in particular, alleging that we do not know what is going on or simply "do not like him" is irresponsible and incorrect.

Based on talking with people within the company, many are worried about his well-being and serious issues can be raised regarding his future in the company. On Twitter, Goldust asked Matt what was wrong and Matt reassured him he was speaking metaphorically. We all know Matt likes to keep the Internet buzzing but he tried to dispel a true story by using an inaccurate play on words.

Not only did the truth prevail less than 48 hours later but Matt Hardy's own employer was the one to sell him out. I wish Matt nothing but the best and have nothing against him as a performer or as a person. I've always felt he was over in WWE but also felt that Jeff was the more talented of the two brothers. The life as a performer in WWE is not easy and I commend Matt for working banged up. I also commend him for working through injuries and doing everything he can to keep from losing his spot. It just disappointments me to see him pointing fingers and questioning the credibility of many when all along the story being reported was the story that was correct.

If he wouldn't have acknowledged the report, it probably would have died a lot quicker. Instead, everyone is now wondering - what is wrong with Matt Hardy?
