WWE Night of Champions Results
Sunday, September 16, 2012
From the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts
Report by Sean Hopkins of WrestlingNewsWorld.com

The show opens with a video package highlighting the championship theme of the evening, and the fact that every title will be on the line tonight, as well as the main feuds heading into tonight’s show.
The pyro hits and that horrible Kevin Rudolph song plays again as Michael Cole welcomes us to the show. Cole begins the PPV with an update on Jerry Lawler. He talks about Lawler’s heart attack on Monday and the events that immediately followed, including 15 minutes of CPR being performed on Lawler, which ultimately saved his life. Lawler is recovering, cracking jokes, and thanks the fans. And Jerry Lawler will be going home to Memphis this week. Cole gets ready to introduce Lawler’s replacement for the evening, but Justin Roberts interrupts him, bringing out JBL.
JBL says this is a hard situation, and he’s keeping Jerry’s seat warm, but by the time he comes back, it might be on fire.
Fatal 4-Way Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
- The Miz (c) vs. Sin Cara, Rey Mysterio & Cody Rhodes
The entrances:
They’re interrupted by Lillian Garcia who brings out the Miz for the first match. Miz has a mic in hand and criticizes Booker T’s brilliant idea. Tonight is supposed to be all about Miz, a champion, and he’s the only champion who has to defend his belt against three different challengers, and Miz is filing an official complaint. He won’t stop until his voice is head, because he’s the Miz, and he’s interrupted by Rey Mysterio, who comes out to a big pop.
Cody Rhodes is the third competitor to make his way out into the arena. Rhodes gets a mostly negative reaction, but he’s got a couple of fans in the crowd.
Finally, Sin Cara makes his way out to the ring last, and he gets a pretty indifferent reaction from the crowd, especially compared to someone like Mysterio.
The start:
Everyone will be in the ring for this one. The bell rings and Cody and Cara go at it, with Cody tossing Cara to the floor. Rhodes and Miz try to take out Mysterio, but they’re taken out with a double cross body by Cara. Cara and Mysterio clear the ring and stare each other down, but Miz pulls Mysterio from the ring.
Mid-match notes:
Cody and Miz double team Cara, stomping away at him. Miz holds Cara so Cody can get a shot, but when Cody tries to reciprocate, Cara is able to reverse things with a headscissors. Cara sends Cody from the ring before taking Miz out as well with a nice arm drag.
Cody charges at Mysterio but ends up thrown out of the ring. Cara and Mysterio match up, trading kicks before Cara hits a hurricanrana. Rey goes for one of his own and Cara shoulders him, but Rey is able to connect anyway. Rey goes for the pin but it’s broken up. Miz stomps away at Rey while Cody focuses on Cara. Cody hits a front suplex on Cara and Miz blasts Rey with a running knee. Cody hits Cara with a punch and teases a pin, Miz goes to break it up. Miz and Cody square off, trading quick blows. Cody tries for the disaster kick but misses. Miz hits a neckbreaker before back dropping Cody to the outside. Mysterio rolls up Miz, but ends up being rolled up by Cara.
Cara and Mysterio hit Miz with stereo kicks before turning to each other with nasty kicks to the thigh. Cara sends Mysterio into the ring, but runs into a drop toe hold into the middle turnbuckle. Mysterio begins heading to the top, but he’s stopped by a kick to the top of the head from Cara. Cara heads up after Mysterio, but he’s pulled away by Rhodes who hits him with the disaster kick, but Cara kicks out at two. Cody heads up after Rey, trying for a superplex, but it’s broken up by Miz, who powerbombs Rhodes while he superplexes Rey. Rey tries to pin both men unsuccessfully. Miz sends Rhodes and Cara crashing out to the floor before choking Mysterio in the ropes.
Miz kicks at Mysterio’s legs and hits the low DDT which is good for another two count. Miz picks up Mysterio, but eats a kick to the chest. Mysterio slides to the outside and Miz ends up eating a springboard missile dropkick that sends him to the outside. Cara hits a suicide dive to take out Miz while Mysterio hits a hurricanrana to send Rhodes into the barricade before hitting a flying seated senton from the apron. Cara sends Miz back into the ring and hits a slingshot body press, but it’s not enough to keep Miz down for two. Miz takes Cara out, but he’s taken out by Mysterio who hits a springboard moonsault, but the pin is broken up by Rhodes.
Cody drives Rey’s face into the canvas hard for a two count. He goes for Cara, but ends up in the ropes. Miz sends Cara shoulder first into the ring post, but Mysterio sends him into the ropes. Cody avoids the 619, but Miz doesn’t. Miz drops the dime, but Rhodes pulls Mysterio from the ring. Rhodes goes for the pin, but Cara breaks it up. Rhodes stomps away at Cara before bringing him up to his feet and hitting a snap mare. Rhodes rips at Cara’s mask, but Mysterio breaks it up with a seated senton. Rhodes comes right back, sending Mysterio flying from the ring. Cara hits Rhodes with an enzugiri. He pulls out one of his masks and goes to put it on Rhodes, but he ends up being caught with a neckbreaker from Miz for another two count.
The finish:
Miz goes for a powerbomb on Cara, but Cara slips the mask on Miz. Rhodes tries for cross Rhodes on Cara, but Miz, who can’t see, hits the SCF on Rhodes. He pins Cody for the three count.
