WWE Not Wanting Cena To Take Time Off, Orton Injury Angle, Booking WWE Divas, Low Raw Rating

With all the controversy going on backstage about Vince McMahon not wanting John Cena to be out of action long what would happen if he were to suffer a major injury?

There is a lot of drama going on between Vince McMahon and John Cena, especially with the fact they don’t like Cena missing time in the heat of the fall competition. However, the company always has to be prepared should a major injury occur and make sure there are plenty of “plan B” options out there. WWE already has “plan B” in place in case Cena can’t work Hell in a Cell with the Ryback tease that ended last week’s Raw.

Was Randy Orton legitimately injured at last week’s Smackdown taping?

No, the angle WWE did after this week’s Smackdown was an angle to write him off television. I doubt it will be for long but Orton is currently filming 12 Rounds Reloaded and it gives the company a reason to explain possible absence.

What happened to having diva matches that mattered? I still fondly remember Trish Stratus vs. Lita battling it out in the main event of Raw. Now Divas matches are just fillers that last usually under a minute. Will this ever change?

While the Divas are clearly out of the “glory years” of Trish Stratus, Lita, Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson, I believe you are overvaluing WWE’s ability to prominently feature female talent. Vince McMahon has always had a weird way of booking Divas and while they say time makes the heart grow fonder, you are remembering the few memorable moments and forgetting the mud wrestling, pillow fights and bikini contests. To assume WWE used to care about Divas and suddenly do not, I believe, is inaccurate. I find a lot of this from readers who miss how WWE “used to be” but if you go back, these same fans were complaining about the product then. I’m not saying I agree with WWE PG and the product hasn’t hit its stale patches but if you aren’t careful you will find yourself always discontent with the product regardless of what is happening.

What do you attribute to last Monday’s low Raw rating?

The fact Monday Night Football did 16,000,000 viewers last week didn’t help WWE in the ratings and I disagree with Vince McMahon’s reaction in regards to John Cena. Based on the trends I’m seeing, it looks like viewers are losing interest with the three-hour time slot which is something I felt was inevitable. I’m not saying the ratings are in the tank because the show is too long but it’s clear the third hour is dragging down viewership. WWE has stiffer competition this week with the Dallas Cowboys being featured on Monday Night Football.

Richard do you agree that it’s because Vince McMahon doesn’t see anything as being competition? When wcw was kicking their butts is when McMahon changed things. He doesn’t see anything as competition and that’s why he is losing his viewers! The product can be great even for 3 hours if it was compelling its just not at all.. We all know who or what will end raw every week. When wcw and wwe battle you didn’t know what was going to happen. Ppl need to stop blaming it on being PG or Linda’s campaign. Compelling story lines and edge of your seat action will make viewers turn in.

Its true. And that's what Vince gets for never hiring anyone with actual background in Creative Writing. It seems all these writers are mainly former pro wrestlers and one retarded B level celebrity in Freddy Prinze Jr…if he's even still around.

  • gpturbo81

nobody cares about the cowboys or the bears

Each are valued at over $1billion http://www.nowpublic.com/sports/forbes-50-most-va

Hey I live in Chicago and we care about them so does the Dallas fans about there team to

      • Ace Vivid

I live in Dallas and at hooters I booed the hell out of the cowgirls. The cowboy fans hated it and I hate the cowboys. Lol

      Speak for yourself

    • XKonn247

      Probably a Raiders fan!

  • http://www.12ozprophet.com Dangerous Lee

Vince will run Cena into the ground til he has nothing left. Then he’ll throw him off to the side and find another wrestler to continue the cycle.

    • XKonn247

I totally see what you mean. Like he’s done with Taker, HHH, Rock, Austin, Foley… Wait…

      • http://www.12ozprophet.com Dangerous Lee

Good point. Unfortunately, Cena will not leave for Hollywood, he is not undefeated at WM, and he didnt marry the bosses daughter.

        • Da KiDD

So what's your explanation for Austin and Foley then? and while we're on it, HBK as well?…I'm waiting….

          • http://www.12ozprophet.com Dangerous Lee

Didnt Austin leave to make movies?

  • Synyster

I’m a huge WWE fan but when the cowboys are playing I’m watching them first.

    • Terra Ryzing

      Agreed

  • justsomeguy

Vince needs to remember what happened with Kurt Angle when all his injuries caught up with him, and he asked for time off to heal.

  • David

I so agree with you on the "time makes the heart grow fonder" statement. I see people say that the WWE needs to go back to tv 14 because it was so much better than TV PG.. The attitude era ended about 2001. And I believe the PG era began in 2008. So you had some bad times in between the attitude era and the pg era, when the wwe was tv 14. Such as Katie Vick.

  • Mark

Give Cena some time off and a break from all of us, never know, might do him some good!!!

  • Ken

At one point some people preferred to watch WWE over Football because the WWE as it was then was compelling, must-see programming. Nowadays it's far from compelling.

  • AnacondaVise

Vince McMahon doesn't want to give someone time off? I'm shocked…

  • Ego Trip

No offense Vinnie Mac but it is now football season. The same demographics you are going after are the same ones that watch football. There are a limited number of NFL games and your show is on every week of the year. Your rating have suffered probably every year at this time and are going to continue to suck during NFL football season. I don't root for either the Cowboys or the Bears but i can guaren-damn-tee that I will be swithching over to watch the game come kickoff time.

  • Remi

Richard, who decides the colors of the icons each month? ^_^

  • Brian

I know wwe hasn't always booked divas in the best way but what I am saying is divas used to matter to Raw. They had storylines. Now adays Alicia Fox goes from face to heel on a monthly basis, Divas do very few moves and the matches are just lame for the most part. I agree it wasn't perfect before but the divas division has certainly gone way downhill

  • /travis.hyers Travis

Vince is a business man, one of the best in the world. I highly doubt he takes any breaks. Not many, at least.

  • Jashaun

See wwe depends to much on cena and Orton now that they are both gone it seems like vince is throwing a hissy fit

  • Cris.d514

I miss the bikini, bra and panties, mud wrestling matches. Even if they weren't the best thing they at least got you to pay attention.

  • izblack

The rating are sucking b/c CM Punk is the champ ANC he’s being shoved down our throats. C’mon Richard, tell it like it is. Punk is 5 segments last week, that has way more too do with the crappy ratings then the Packers/Seahawks. That’s also why McMahon doesn’t want Crna taking time off. If Punk IC the guy who has too end up carrying the WWE should Cena ever have too miss extended time then you can bet these lower ratings will start too become common ground.

    • Bishop

WWE cannot compete with the NFL…ever

  • H.M.

You know what would be funny? If through all of this chaos Cena quit the WWE somehow at some point down the line and went to TNA. Obviously this is way out there and will probably never happen and I accept that. But it's still quite a thought worth entertaining.

    • A.C.

I have thought the same. If Jarrett and Russo were running things and Cena was TNA champ, they would overtake WWE. With Hogan and Bischoff in charge, however, they'd just bury him. They would have Aries beat him left and right. Still wouldn't help Aries any. Then, Hogan would have to return to the ring to defeat him. Then they would bring back Bischoff for one night to pull a few ninja moves on Cena as well.

  • Fart Handler

Cena sucks? Too much Cena? Well I personally am also sick of a year of nothing but CM Punk. They guy has been shoved down our throats with this over pushes championship reign more in 10 months than anybody normal can stand.

    • LeftyTosser

Have to agree with the Fart, Punk is a good character, but enough is enough. I record the show and fast forward through him every week. It's the same story week in and week out. Enough is enough. The guy is a good performer but his mic skills are only average at best WITH the current story line. He was far more entertaining before his championship run and turn. Matches with Cena, Punk and Orton should be something special, not an every week of the year thing. VKM, stop announcing before the show who will appear each week. Give the fans a reason to tune in and to show up at live events. Announce RAW will be in a town. You don't have to give the show away two weeks before it occurs. It's no different than what holds your interest longer, a woman that is dressed sexy and keeping you wondering or a nude. Some of the best RAW or Nitro events ever were the ones when the fans did not know what was going to happen or who was appearing.

  • Mark

At least punk can WRESTLE!!!! No he’s not the best in the world, but at least he can sell, unlike Cena!! Take 2 months off an have a gimmick change for the first time in 6 years, this is wrestling, ya wonder why fans chant ‘Cena Sucks’ an your stood there laughing in the ring holding the mic to the crowd every week!!!!!!!! #respect

  • partyjereme

The reason the ratings are going down has nothing to do with fans losing interest by the third hour, it's because the kids the WWE target aren't allowed to stay up until the end of the show because of how late the show ends. If you look at Raws ratings before last Summer the second hour rarely had more viewers than the first hour and that was back when it was still a 2 hour show. I guess if McMahon is as worried about the ratings as the people in the IWC seem to be then he could try to talk USA into putting the show on an hour earlier.

  • A.C.

Punk was EXTREMELY entertaining when taking on John Laurinaitis and whoever People Power had him wrestle. I loved it when he called Big Johnny a "giant tool box." He was a good heel as the "Elliot Ness of Smackdown" a few years ago. Now, the respect me thing is just annoying and juvenile.

  • mike

Hate to say it but the next mnf game isn’t goin to do the WWE any favors either …. Texans vs. Jets …..sorry Vince….
