WWE Playing Up John Cena Injury Angle

WWE is playing up an injury angle with John Cena and his left elbow. Cena mentioned it in his promo on Daniel Bryan on this week's Monday Night Raw, saying it looked "like a football."

The company is running the angle to create doubt about Cena's status to defend the WWE title at SummerSlam. Below is an excerpt from coverage on dot com:

For now, it does not appear that Cena’s title defense is in any danger, nor is his eligibility for SummerSlam. He can and has fought back through worse. As for whether he’s truly at 100% when he puts his title on the line? That, at least, is no longer a given.

I was live at the show last night and his elbow did look extremely contorted. I don’t know if it appeared that way on TV when he made the comment about it looking like a football or not.

yes he elbow looked very swollen, not sure how long it has been that way.

Now they can say, if Bryan wins, that he beat a Cena who “wasn’t 100%,” making it seem like Cena is still untouchable.

To be honest, Cena hasn’t really been 100% since he broke his neck. That’s one of the reasons he doesn’t do to many dangerous spots. It’s also why Vince wants to get as much babyface cash out of him as he can before Cena’s body breaks down. We’ll see that heel turn when he’s almost on the way out and Punk or DB can carry the company.

It was a great promo by Cena. A lot people couldn’t handle it because he took a shot at the ROH. But what he said was true, The ROH is the minor leagues/Arena Football. Being the top guy there doesn’t mean crap in the grand scheme of things. Anyone who wants to argue my point should stop and ask themselves why Punk & Bryan left ROH. Because they know that being the top guy there means nothing if you don’t have success in the WWE (The Major Leagues). I heard shades of Thugamonics in Cena’s promo last night. And damn his elbow looked jacked up for real.

maybe all true but being a success in ROH and that is what got them noticed by WWE in the first place..besides every wrestler has to start some where..WWE is the majors as you said but all so another challenge to guys like Punk and Bryan.

      • Xavier

I understand that. But you have to admit that the WWE is the big times. Even Punk, Bryan and every other Indy star recognize that has truth, if they didn’t then guys like Punk & Bryan wouldn’t have made the jump to the WWE in the 1st place. ROH performs in front of 2000 to 3000 people if they are lucky. WWE does house shows that draw in the range of 10,000 to 13,000 easily. ROH doesn’t make a 50th of the money that WWE brings in. So for people to get so upset about what Cena said is beyond stupid. And keep in mind that these are the people who complain that Cena is to PG and wish he would become more edgier, so when he finally does people still complain and get all upset about it, it’s beyond ridiculous at this point. It was a great promo so people should enjoy it for that instead of trying to nitpick.

I enjoyed it, when cena is on he cuts some great promos. Can’t disagree about ROH being a minor league but the shows are a lot of fun. I’ve been to several and I recommend attending one if you have the opportunity.

I’m not sure you can call it an angle when his elbow legitimately looked really bad. I noticed it before Cena even mentioned it in his promo. Also for the first time since his promos with The Rock, I really enjoyed him here because it reminded me of heel Cena and its actually starting to give the Summerslam match more substance than just the face of the company vs. the most over, best wrestler in the company.
