WWE Saturday Night's Main Event Results - 8/18/07
New York City, New York
Report by: Daniel Bradshaw of PowerWrestling.com
WWE Saturday Night's Main Event Opener:
Vince McMahon and Coach are shown in the back and McMahon says he is overwhelmed that he has an illegitimate child. Coach said that the whole world is shocked. Coach said he has the dates and places of all of McMahon's rendezvous and he said he can name his child tonight on Saturday Night's Main Event. Coach asked McMahon if he's positive he gave them all the information he needs. McMahon said there was one time in the 70's in Kansas City. Coach said that he is black, and he was born in Kansas City in the 70's, and he's adopted! Coach and McMahon looked funny at each other, and then McMahon said this is going to be a long night!
In the arena:
The fireworks went off in the arena for the start of Saturday Night's Main Event as Michael Cole, Jim Ross and John Bradshaw Layfield welcomed us the sold out Madison Square Garden before running down some of the card.
Referee: Mickey Hensen
Kane and Batista vs. The Great Khali and Finlay
The music of Batista hit in the arena as he made his way down to the ring to a huge pop from the New York City crowd. The music of Kane then hit as he came to the ring and he will be teaming with Batista here against Finlay and the World Heavyweight Champion, The Great Khali.
The start:
Kane slapped Finlay and then backed him into the corner before hammering away. Kane followed up with a clothesline in the corner but then ate an elbow on the second attempt. Finlay then walked into a side slam but Finlay kicked out at two. Batista tagged in who hit a shot to the mid section and then a big takedown for two. Batista worked the arm of Finlay and then took him down to the mat with an arm bar. Batista sent Finlay to the corner and followed up but ate knees.
Mid-match notes:
Finlay went to the middle rope and dove off but Batista caught him, and then sat him on the top rope and nailed a superplex as we go to commercial. Back from commercial and Khali is in the ring in control of Kane. During the break, Kane was in control of Finlay on the outside but then Khali slammed Kane's injured ribs into the announce table. Back to action and Khali has a claw on Kane's ribs and then hit a forearm to the back. Khali locked the claw back in as Kane screamed out in pain. Kane fought back with some right hands but then walked into a big boot. Kane managed to get a tag and so did Finlay. Batista owned Finlay, and then nailed a cheap shot on Khali on the apron. Finlay fought back but Batista hit a spinebuster for two. Hornswoggle got into the ring and Batista knocked him down.
The Finish:
Kane and Batista double teamed Khali and got him tied up in the ropes and then they grabbed Hornswoggle and used him as a battering ram on Khali! The referee got Hornswoggle out of the ring as Khali came back and grabbed both men by the throats, but Kane and Batista broke the grip and then nailed a double chokeslam on Khali. Finlay was then given the Batista Bomb for the win.
Winners - Batista and Kane
The Aftermath:
Batista stared from the ring down at Khali at ringside. Batista indicated that the World Heavyweight Title would soon be his.
Backstage:
McMahon and Coach are in the back and Coach said he will name McMahon's child tonight. McMahon went to comb his hair and looked in a mirror, and a weird image of McMahon in the 80's appeared in the mirror. Very Hokey. Coach asked what was wrong and McMahon said never mind. Ron Simmons then walked up and looked in the mirror, hoping he'd look twenty years younger too, but it was no good. "DAMN!"
The Game:
A promo for Triple H's return at Summerslam was aired.
Backstage:
We're back with MVP backstage with an entourage surrounding him, and Evander Holyfield comes in. MVP bigs him up as the two embrace. MVP says that he is better than anyone else which is why he bounced back so quickly. He said since he can't fight, Holyfield will have the honor and privilege of replacing him. The hugged again and acted very friendly.
In the arena:
Coach and McMahon are in the ring and Coach said one of the WWE Superstars is the offspring of McMahon, and lawyers have told him that DNA tests take so long so he has taken it upon himself to get the information out here tonight. McMahon tells Coach to get on with it. Coach said that McMahon is a world renowned businessman and would be in the road four weeks at a time. Mr. McMahon is a virile man, a man with urges, natural urges. McMahon yells at Coach to get on with it. Coach said McMahon provided a lot of information, and they are going to locate the child tonight. Coach speaks about the tryst in Kentucky, and with the information he's been provided that this could be your child...the music of Eugene hit in the arena! Eugene came out all excited as McMahon looked on in disgust. Coach said there is no way that this man could be his child. He remembers the night in Kentucky, he had sex with a stranger, not his cousin! Eugene said his mom met Vince one time and that is why he became a wrestling fan. Eugene said his Uncle Eric nailed his mom, and that is why Bischoff got into wrestling to put Vince out of business forever. McMahon said he wore protection that night and he is not his son. Eugene said "I love you dad!" and went to hug Vince but Vince told him to get out of here. Eugene left, and Coach said maybe Eugene isn't his son after all. Coach said to think back to Los Angeles, the WrestleMania II after party...this could be his long lost daughter...Melina! Melina made her way down to the ring. McMahon said Melina is not his daughter, and Melina will agree that she cannot be his daughter. McMahon said she can't be his daughter is...Vince whispered something to Coach and Coach said that is disgusting! McMahon said it was a typical July 4 celebration, and their meeting, he hopes it was as good...he is sure that it will be totally harmless. Melina said he better hope that it is, because if she is his daughter, she will take him for every cent that he has! McMahon called her an ungrateful bitch as she left. Coach said there is one more possibility but he doesn't think they should do it. McMahon went to leave, but said if there's one more to bring him out. Coach said he doesn't think they should.
McMahon yelled to bring him out, he wants to know who his child is! Out comes Austin! Stone Cold Steve Austin is back! McMahon gulped in the only way McMahon can as Austin made his way to the ring and the fans went nuts! Jim Ross said that these two could be having a dysfunctional family reunion right here! The fans chanted for Stone Cold as McMahon looked worried. Austin said he didn't figure he had a jackass as a father, but nonetheless, he could be his dad. Good old pops. What?! His old man. What?! Maybe he could be his seed. What!? The fruit of his loins. What?! The result of what came from his grapefruits. What!? McMahon said there is no chance in hell of Austin being his son. Austin said that's too bad, because they missed out on so many good things. They never got a chance to play catch. What?! Go to a football game. What!? Build a go kart. What?! Go on a hunting trip. What?! Never had the talk about the birds and bee's. What!? They could have treasured sharing the first beer together. What!? Second beer. What!? Third beer. What!? Fourth beer. What!? Austin said it would be real easy to come out here and Stun McMahon's ass. The fans popped. Austin said that would be the easy thing to do. McMahon said that it would be pointless. Austin said that he doesn't need to Stun him because the biggest problem he has is with those overactive grapefruits. Austin thought to himself what he could do to help him out with that problem, and then gave McMahon a mule kick to the grapefruits, and then gave him a straight low blow. Coach protested, and then Austin gave him a Stunner! Austin's music hit and he called for the beer and started chugging them down as the fans went nuts! Jim Ross said it's safe to assume that McMahon's son is not Steve Austin! McMahon was in pain on the mat, clutching his groin as Austin gave McMahon a beer bath. Austin handed Vince a beer as he tried to get to his feet. Austin got on the mic again and said that everyone probably knew that was going to happen. Austin said this is his first night in the Garden in a long time and it's good to be back. Austin said they should have a drink in the Garden. Austin asked the fans for a hell yeah if they wanted to see him and Vince share a drink. They toasted, and then Austin gave McMahon the Stunner! Austin made his way to the back and McMahon is down and out.
Backstage:
Evander Holyfield is shown sparring in the back with MVP, getting ready for the Boxing Match against Matt Hardy tonight.
Big Apple Showdown
Referee: Michael Chioda
Carlito vs. John Cena (c)
The music of WWE Champion John Cena hit in the arena as he made his way to the ring to a somewhat mixed reaction from the crowd here in New York City. We see footage of three weeks ago on RAW when Randy Orton distracted Cena to allow Carlito to pick up a win over the WWE Champion. Carlito then went on to spit apple in the face of Cena. Carlito then made his way to the ring, and we are set to go.
The start:
Cena and Carlito locked up and Cena took Carlito down with a double leg and then hammered away at him. Cena sent Carlito the ropes and hit a big shoulder. Cena whipped Carlito to the corner and worked him over and then hit a stiff clothesline to send Carlito to the outside. Carlito grabbed a chair from ringside and went to get in the ring with it. The referee grabbed the chair and Cena went after Carlito, but Carlito got him in the ropes and kicked him in the head sending him to the floor as we go to commercial.
The Finish:
Back from commercial and Carlito is in control of Cena with right hands in the middle of the ring. Carlito sent Cena to the corner but Cena reversed and charged in, but Carlito hit a high elbow. Cena came back with the Throwback and then went to the top rope and came off with a guillotine leg drop to the bent over Carlito. Cena then locked in the STFU and Carlito tapped out.
Winner, the WWE Champion, John Cena
The Aftermath:
Randy Orton hit the ring and attacked Cena from behind. Orton sent Cena hard into the ring steps and then paced back and fourth like a crazed man. Orton saw the chair that almost came into use earlier, and set it up. Orton stalked Cena as if he was going to go for the RKO. Cena took a long time to get up and Orton went over to him and then gave him a running RKO ontot the steel chair! That was sick! The announcers put over whether Cena would even make it to Summerslam as we see a shot of the deformed chair. Some fans chanted "Randy Orton" while the women and children chanted "Sucks!" The Legend Killer has left the WWE Champion in a sorry state here. Orton stands over Cena as the referee's try to get him to back off as we go to commercial. This was a really good angle.
Moments Ago:
When we come back, we take a look at what just went down between Randy Orton and John Cena. The announcers put it over as a diabolical and demonic attack by Orton.
Backstage:
Randy Orton is shown in the back and Todd Grisham says what he just did was brutal. Orton said he sent Cena a message, and it was loud and clear. John Cena has just seen the beginning of what he will get from Orton. It was three years ago at Summerslam when Orton became the youngest World Champion, and this year he will become the WWE Champion.
Boxing Match
Referee: John Kone
Matt Hardy vs. Evander Holyfield
We go a tale of the tape for the boxing match between Evander Holyfield and Matt Hardy before Matt Hardy makes his way to the ring in full boxing gear and a pair of corner men. MVP's music then hit as he made his way to the ring as the United States Champion with a huge entourage. Evander Holyfield then makes his way out to a big reaction from the fans here. Holyfield is the only four time champion in the history of boxing, and you have to believe that Matt Hardy will not have much of a chance here. Michael Buffer went to do the ring announcements. For the thousands in attendance, and the millions watching around the world, let's get ready to rumble! Buffer went to do the introductions but MVP stopped him and told him to read the card. Buffer introduced MVP saying he was half a man, half amazing and straight up ballin'. Buffer then introduced Matt Hardy and Evander Holyfield. The referee then went over the rules and we are set to go right after commercial.
The start:
We start off with Holyfeild going to work on Hardy with some jabs in the corner. MVP is acting as Holyfield's corner man. Holyfield hits some more jabs and body shots on Hardy and Hardy is out of his feet here. Hardy goes to the corner and goes down and is up at the count of seven. We go back to it with Holyfield maintaining more control over Hardy, and he goes down again for a nine count, and he is clearly out of his league here at the end of round one.
The Finish:
MVP tries to take over, arguing with Holyfield's trainer during the interval. Some hotties get into the ring to indicate it's time for round two and we are set to go. Holyfield doesn't want to fight Matt Hardy, as Hardy doesn't have a clue where he is here. Holyfield is doing the right thing and MVP is pissed. MVP gets in the ring and puts his hands on Holyfeild and gets knocked down with a huge haymaker! Holyfield and Hardy embraced and MVP is down and out.
Winner - No Decision
In the arena:
Tazz joins Michael Cole and Jim Ross on commentary as The Boogeyman's music hit in the arena and he will be teaming with CM Punk here against Big Daddy V and the ECW Champion John Morrison. Morrison and Punk will face off for the ECW Championship at Summerslam. Punk seemed a little freaked out at Boogeyman and his worm eating.
Referee: Scott Armstrong
CM Punk and The Boogeyman vs. John Morrison and Big Daddy V
The start:
Punk and Morrison started out with Punk grabbing a side headlock. Morrison sent Punk to the ropes but Punk came back with a shoulder and then a unique rollup for two. Morrison with a backslide for a two count as the fans chanted for Punk. Punk with a roll up of his own for two and then Morrison came back with a side headlock of his own. Morrison hit a shoulder block but then ran into a dropkick by Punk for two. CM Punk clotheslined Morrison to the outside as we go to commercial.
Mid-match notes:
Back from break and Boogeyman is in the ring and hit a back body drop on Morrison. Boogeyman grabs some worms and goes after Morrison, but he tags in Big Daddy V. Big Daddy V took over on Boogeyman and nailed a huge slam and then got him in the corner and nailed a chop to the chest. Big Daddy V hit a huge Samoan Drop and the fans don't know how to take this behemoth. Big Daddy V went for a running splash in the corner but Boogeyman moved and Morrison tagged in. Punk got a tag as well and went to work on Morrison with a spinning slam.
The Finish:
Punk was sent to the apron and then hit a shoulder through the ropes and went up top and came off with a flying clothesline for two. Punk hit a running knee in the corner and then a high elbow. Morrison yanked Punk off the middle rope for a two count but then Punk got a roll up for the win out of nowhere!
Winners - CM Punk and The Boogeyman
The Aftermath:
Morrison looks shocked as they put over that Punk pinned the ECW Champion and wondered if he could do the same at Summerslam.
Video Recaps:
We go into a video package recapping all the going's on from the show as Michael Cole thanks us for spending some of our weekend with WWE. Kind of strange formatting for the show. I thought Austin would be on last for sure.
