Sunday, April 7th, the WWE presents WrestleMania XXIX from the Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. I give the WWE huge props for bringing WrestleMania back to the New York/New Jersey area. It might be a bit cold for the fans at WrestleMania this year, but the show will warm us all through. This time around we have Elto, Jesse, and Chris Surrency joining our merry band of misfits. If you haven’t yet, check out what we’re all writing over at WWENews.net.
I have gone on record that this WrestleMania has one of the absolute worst build-ups in the modern era. With WrestleMania just one night away, my position still stands and I believe that the build was destroyed by the new focus of Vince on the part-time talent headlining the Show of Shows. Considering the availability of said talent, they should have put more of an emphasis on the lower and middle of the card, but instead we got an incredibly rushed lower card that has had almost no build. I know that with it being the Showcase of the Immortals that everyone will step up and perform at their highest level, but there are very few matches on the card that I have any real emotional investment in. And if a longtime fan feels like that, I can only imagine how the casual fans feel.
Well the long wait is here. Sunday is the day. I have to say I have been anxious to see this and have been watching old episodes that have been released onto Netflix in preparation for Sunday. I can’t wait for the two hour premier of Mad Men! Who knows what they will do this season…wait this is mania weekend? Well then I guess that’s pretty exciting too! On a more serious note though I can’t wait for this year. Yes, there are a few stinkers on the card but let’s be honest it’s still loaded. One last thing before we dive into this, the video of Vince sneak peaking the set. The man was glowing! It’s nice to see him in his old promoter voice, and even better to see him humbly happy for all that he has done with mania.
Ken Predicts – WWE Intercontinental Championship Match – Wade Barrett (c) vs The Miz
I’m rather bummed that this was bumped to the pre-PPV show, but I will admit that it’s a great match to draw the fans in. I’m expecting Barrett and Miz to put on one serious match, and I hope Miz proves that he really should have been higher on the card than he is. Barrett, on the other hand, has not impressed me lately. I’m sure they will both go out there hard, and I have a feeling that Miz is going to win this one. Hopefully he will go on to feud with someone more interesting than Barrett, but maybe that’s just me.
Ken’s Predicted Winner – Miz
Stacy’s Predicted Winner – Barrett
Alex Predicts – WWE Intercontinental Championship Match – Wade Barrett (c) vs The Miz
I could go either way on this match, in my opinion. I can see Wade win but I can also see Miz taking the title. I have to look in the future though. Where might WWE be heading? I haven’t been impressed with Wade since he returned. Miz as a face isn’t working out. I do see WWE getting more use out of The Miz than Wade as Champion though. I can see WWE setting a rematch up for the title. Something interesting has to happen. Yet, this is a Pre-Show Match. Is a title really going to change hands? Why not? I think WWE wants to start the show off right for everyone before the show actually starts. So, I think Miz will pick up the win and the title.
Alex’s Predicted Winner – The Miz
Jesse Predicts – WWE Intercontinental Championship Match – Wade Barrett (c) vs The Miz
Honestly, this match shows exactly what I was talking about. Very little build, and what build was there was bad booking. Miz is getting this Title shot based off of the fact that he beat Barrett on Raw a couple of weeks ago, but if you go by that logic, Jericho should also be the #1 contender, as well as Miz should be #1 contender for the US Title! Sadly, though, WWE has failed to capitalize on their chance to unify the mid-card Titles. Barrett and Miz should put on an excellent match to open the show. I do see a title change, as Barrett has been booked very weakly over the last month, and really just needs to move on past the mid-card belts.
Jesse’s Predicted Winner – The Miz (sub)
Gesus Predicts – WWE Intercontinental Championship Match – Wade Barrett (c) vs The Miz
What a shame this match got bumped to pre-show. I like this Miz and his fall from grace has been a bit sad. Barrett’s as well. I hope these guys can put on a great match to prove that they’re better than pre-show quality. I mean honestly what do they have to lose? I really don’t want to see Miz put on the figure four. I think it’s to soon but then again could be a huge nod to Flair if done right. I don’t think Miz can pull it off, but then again he has made a career of proving people wrong. I really want Barrett to win, but my gut is going with Miz.
Gesus’ Predicted Winner – Miz
Elto Predicts – WWE Intercontinental Championship Match – Wade Barrett (c) vs The Miz
I would hate to see a storied title like the Intercontinental Championship change hands on the Pre-show, but The Miz could use a bit of a push. Two years ago he was competing in the main event of WrestleMania and here he is in 2013, not nearly as credible as he was back then. WWE might want to restore some of his relevance, especially with The Marine 3: Homefront hitting video stores last month.
Elto’s Predicted Winner – Miz
Chris Predicts – WWE Intercontinental Championship Match – Wade Barrett (c) vs The Miz
Another match that could have contended for match of the night, unfortunately most people won’t really see it happen. This will be an athletic match, very back and forth between two very talented performers. While I like Barrett as the IC champ I think Miz is ready for another title and Barrett is ready to climb into the main event picture. I see Miz reversing the Bull hammer into a SCF for the victory to get the crowd hyped up for the big event.
Chris’ Predicted Winner – Miz
Ken Predicts – Singles Match – Chris Jericho vs Fandango
I’m really hoping Fandango can keep his nerves in check and give his all in this match. Being in the ring with Jericho is a great coup for him, but it’s all about keeping calm and focused. This match is going to make or break Fandango’s career, but I have faith that he’s going to be really impressive in this match, even thought all the “You can’t wrestle!” chants, and whatever else the fans might yell. I see these two tearing the place up and setting the stage for what could be an amazing WrestleMania, and an amazing career for Fandango. The only way this match can be booked to get Fandango – which is what it needs to do – if Fandango is going to get anywhere, is for Fandango to win this one. I don’t know how he’s going to pull it off, but Fandango will win this match with that fantastic leg drop of his.
Ken’s Predicted Winner – Fandango
Stacy’s Predicted Winner – Fandango
Alex Predicts – Singles Match – Chris Jericho vs Fandango
I am actually quite excited for this match. The buildup is not a Wrestlemania build but I like Jericho and I liked what I seen from Fandango on Raw. I was impressed with his beat down on Jericho a few weeks back. I also love how Fandango is so over. He didn’t even have one match and he is more over than a lot of others. There is absolutely no way I see Fandango going under. WWE should not build this guy up to lose his first match. This is his time to really shine. If he is going to be the future, WWE needs this to work. They need him to look the absolute best. I believe Jericho can do so. Fandango wins and becomes a pretty big deal.
Alex’s Predicted Winner – Fandango
Jesse Predicts – Singles Match – Chris Jericho vs Fandango
Now this should be a fun match! Fandango’s first televised match (under this gimmick) is at Wrestlemania, and he is facing one of the best show stealing superstars of the past decade. After watching enough tape to choke an elephant, I know that Fandango will be able to easily keep up with Y2J. The only question I have is will we get some mike work before the match, as both Jericho and Fandango have provided excellent promos. I see Jericho being the first part time worker to fall at WrestleMania, as it would destroy all the work that they have put into building Fandango up until now.
Jesse’s Predicted Winner – Fan-Dan-Go! (pin)
Gesus Predicts – Singles Match – Chris Jericho vs Fandango
I am a huge mark for Fandangoo and has been loving his build to the debut at Wrestlemania. Jericho is a favorite of mine as well. This match I can say I’m most excited for on the card. There are many ways they could go with it. Will they make this a short match? Will it be a match at all? Will Fandango have an epic entrance dancing to the ring only to get upset with how they announce his name? Then proceed to brawl outside the ring? I think that will be unfair to rob Fandangoo of his mania moment. This could be match of the night hands down. It’s put up or shut up for Fandangoo. Months and months of off and on again vignettes and near debuts culminating to one of the best wrestlers at Mania. I hope these guys tear the house down, and Jericho puts over Fandangoo over in a huge way. Also just a reminder, Breath the A’s.
Gesus’ Predicted Winner – Faaaan Daaaan Go go go go
Elto Predicts – Singles Match – Chris Jericho vs Fandango
Jericho is essentially a part-timer, as it won’t be long before he leaves again to tour with his band Fozzy. A win for Y2J at WrestleMania benefits WWE in no way, so the natural thing to do is give the newcomer the win. As untested as he might be. On another note, it is incredible how important this match is for Fandango. After his disappointing run as Johnny Curtis, he simply needs to deliver this Sunday, as it might be his last chance.
Elto’s Predicted Winner – Fandango
Chris Predicts – Singles Match – Chris Jericho vs Fandango
I honestly think this could be right in line with a couple other options as match of the night. Jericho is an amazing worker and has been putting up some of his best work lately, while I’m skeptical of the gimmick of Fandango I think Johnny Curtis is a very talented worker and he can match up well with Jericho. My feeling is that Jericho will get close, but it will be a loss for him with Fandango hitting the flying leg drop for the victory over Y2J.
Chris’ Predicted Winner – Fandango
Ken Predicts – Divas Title Match – Kaitlyn (c) vs AJ
Even though this isn’t officially on the card, it should be, and I’ll be shocked if it doesn’t happen – be better than Diddy singing! For me this is a very simple one. I adore Kaitlyn, and really think she deserves to go all out as Champ, but the WWE won’t let her. They proved that when she caught crap for going all out and bumping so hard on RAW a few weeks ago. I’m hoping that Kaitlyn and AJ go out to work as hard as they did on RAW, or even harder, and prove that the Divas working the ring is more than just a bathroom or beer break. All the great things I can say about Kaitlyn really means nothing because the WWE hasn’t given her a chance to prove herself as Champ, and it looks like they won’t. AJ, on the other hand, is the top Diva in the WWE right now, and together with Ziggler, they’re the power couple to watch out for, so it makes sense to strap her. AJ with the Divas Title makes perfect sense at this point, and I hope the WWE does it, but only after one sick Divas match.
Ken’s Predicted Winner – AJ
Stacy’s Predicted Winner – AJ
Alex’s Predicted Winner – AJ
Jesse Predicts – Divas Title Match – Kaitlyn (c) vs AJ
I really hope that this match gets added to the card, as I know that both AJ and Kaitlyn can easily put on a performance that will make people wonder if we went back in time to the prime of the Diva’s division. If they can get at least 5 minutes, I know we will have a great match. I hope we see a title change here, as AJ is probably one of the best workers in the Divas Division, as well as one of the best characters in WWE as a whole.
Jesse’s Predicted Winner & NEW Divas Champion – AJ Lee (pin)
Elto Predicts – Divas Title Match – Kaitlyn (c) vs AJ
With Ziggler and Langston possibly winning the tag team belts at WrestleMania, it would be a huge boost to the group’s credibility if AJ is crowned the Divas Champion. Especially with the part-timers taking a leave of absence after the Show of Shows, WWE needs a power couple like AJ and Dolph.
Elto’s Predicted Winner – AJ
Ken Predicts – US Title Match – Cesaro (c) vs ?
A couple of us are throwing this match into the mix because we feel it really should be on the card. Not only should it be on the card, but Cesaro should be facing someone spectacular, and win in a jaw dropping way after an awe inspiring match. Cesaro deserves so much more than he’s been getting, and hopefully he doesn’t get screwed over at WrestleMania, or should I say more screwed over than he already has been? I hope Cesaro is in a match, and retains splendidly, shooting him to the stars with his career in 2013.
Ken’s Predicted Winner – Cesaro
Stacy’s Predicted Winner – Cesaro
Jesse Predicts – US Title Match – Cesaro (c) vs ?
Ok, I’m letting the cat out of the bag here, as this will be my debut! All kidding aside, with 0 build they shouldn’t even consider putting a US Title Match on this card, but we know that WWE doesn’t like to follow logic. I will say that they have done a very effective job of destroying what little prestige Cesaro has returned to the belt by having him lose so much in the last 3 months. If they do decide to have Cesaro on the card, there is only one logical opponent for him that doesn’t have a match already and that is R-Truth. R-Truth was originally hurt in a match against Cesaro at the TLC PPV, and this would be a great way to set up a rematch against Cesaro. Thanks to there being no build to this match, I see Cesaro finally getting a big win and retaining his title.
Jesse’s Predicted Winner – Antonio Cesaro (pin)
8 Person Mixed Tag Team Match – Tons of Funk (Brodus Clay & Sweet T) & The Funkadactyls (Cameron & Naomi) vs Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow) & The Bella Twins (Brie Bella & Nikki Bella)
I hope that we get to see Naomi and Cameron really work the ring in this match, but I’m not going to hold my breath, especially since the only people they have to work against are the Bellas. I have to admit that I’d love to see Kharma’s return – she did say that she was going to take out the Bellas – but I’m not holding my breath. Though I have to say that a return at WrestleMania would be shocking, and thrilling. I want everyone to remember that if Kharm returns, I mentioned it here!
As much as I love Tons of Funk, and especially the Dactyls, Rhodes and Sandow need this win. Losses on RAW and Smackdown aside, Team Rhodes Scholars need to win at WrestleMania. A loss at WrestleMania won’t hurt ToF, but it would hurt Rhodes and Sandow.
Ken’s Predicted Winner – Team Rhodes Scholars
Stacy’s Predicted Winner – Tons of Funk
Alex Predicts – 8 Person Mixed Tag Team Match – Tons of Funk (Brodus Clay & Sweet T) & The Funkadactyls (Cameron & Naomi) vs Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow) & The Bella Twins (Brie Bella & Nikki Bella)
I am quite surprised this match is evening happening. Not only does it make absolutely no sense, but last year Brodus Clay was dancing on the ring apron and now he is in a wrestling match. The thing that doesn’t make sense is that Team Rhodes Scholars split up months ago. Someone told me that they reunited to take out the Funks but does that even make sense? Doesn’t Rhodes and Sandow want singles gold? Don’t they want to move on? No one would want to face the Funks. I wouldn’t. This team is taken as a joke and I don’t see them as a threat to the division at all. WWE does though. The thing that is putting me where I am is the Bella Twins. They came back to the WWE and are all over Cody. While I do not see them losing, I also do not see Scholars going on much longer. I think the Twins will get to Cody’s head and cost the match. Funks will win and it will finally lead to a Cody push.
Alex’s Predicted Winner – Funks & Funkadactyls
Jesse Predicts – 8 Person Mixed Tag Team Match – Tons of Funk (Brodus Clay & Sweet T) & The Funkadactyls (Cameron & Naomi) vs Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow) & The Bella Twins (Brie Bella & Nikki Bella)
Well, at least Clay and Tensai finally have a team name, even if I don’t like it! After looking at the entire card, this is the throwaway/bathroom break match, and I know it will just devolve down to a brawl. As I do hope that this will be where WWE will turn around Rhodes Scholars, I’m calling for their victory.
Jesse’s Predicted Winner – Rhodes Scholars & The Bellas Twins (pin)
Gesus Predicts – 8 Person Mixed Tag Team Match – Tons of Funk (Brodus Clay & Sweet T) & The Funkadactyls (Cameron & Naomi) vs Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow) & The Bella Twins (Brie Bella & Nikki Bella)
It’s sad that Rhodes Scholars can’t get a real push as prominent tag team. They deserve better than this. Pairing them with the Bellas, in my opinion, is perfect, as well as pushes them as heels more than any writing could. Tons of Funk are just a joke, and I’m pissed they get a mania moment over Cesaro, though I’m sure he will get on the card some where. Naomi can really go in the ring and that tag team Divas match really proved it. I am excited to see what she can string together in her Mania moment. I hope they don’t go with Tons of Funk to win this as they don’t deserve it, but I feel they will, so they can have their dancing moment. Maybe Rhodes Scholars get the cheap win then beat down so They can have their dance moment? Let’s hope.
Gesus’ Predicted Winner – Rhodes Scholars
Elto Predicts – 8 Person Mixed Tag Team Match – Tons of Funk (Brodus Clay & Sweet T) & The Funkadactyls (Cameron & Naomi) vs Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow) & The Bella Twins (Brie Bella & Nikki Bella)
Why we have to see this match at WrestleMania is beyond me. I expect Rhodes and Sandow to go over, simply because they are the more credible competitors. The Bella Twins have been getting the most screen time of all Divas, even though it was only recently that they made their return to WWE. In my view, any scenario which involves The Funkasaurus and Sweet T having their arms raised in victory would be preposterous.
Elto’s Predicted Winner – Team Rhodes Scholars & The Bella Twins
Chris Predicts – 8 Person Mixed Tag Team Match – Tons of Funk (Brodus Clay & Sweet T) & The Funkadactyls (Cameron & Naomi) vs Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow) & The Bella Twins (Brie Bella & Nikki Bella)
I’ve got to admit, this is easily the weakest match on the lineup and I personally think this should be the pre-show match, not on the main card. This could go one of two ways, either the Bella Twins and Rhodes Scholars get a semi-clean win, or a turn leading to Sandow going up the card as a singles worker, but I don’t really think either of those will be the true outcome. Personally, what I feel SHOULD happen is Sandow taking down Cody and walking away. That said, I see it going the other way, Clay and Tensai get the win simply to keep the crowd happy with the face team winning and dancing the night away.
Chris’ Predicted Winner – Dancing Fools, err, Tensai & Clay with Naomi & Cameron
Ken Predicts – Six-Man WWE Tag Team Match – Randy Orton, Big Show & Sheamus vs The Shield
A lot of people are saying that Orton is going to turn heel to help The Shield will win. I think The Shield will win and that will cause Orton’s heel turn. Orton had been such the peacemaker between Big Show and Sheamus, and that’s not at all in his normal character. It makes me think that something is up. Add that to Orton wanting to turn heel, and I think we’ll be seeing something along those lines happening at WrestleMania. I really do think The Shield will be winning this one, and the only one it will really hurt is Big Show who has a horrible track record at WrestleMania (4-8).
Ken’s Predicted Winner – The Shield
Stacy’s Predicted Winner – The Shield
Alex Predicts – Six-Man WWE Tag Team Match – Randy Orton, Big Show & Sheamus vs The Shield
I am surprised how many tag team matches there are at Wrestlemania. This one in particular doesn’t interest me. I know The Shield is a hit with the IWC, but I haven’t got emotionally attached to them. I really haven’t cared about the whole faction. I liked the mystery on whether they were with CM Punk or not, but now we know the answer. What else is there? There’s really no mystery. They are just attacking people. One thing I find funny is how Big Show got wrapped up in this. Show was a heel a few months ago and then turned face right after The Shield attacked him. Some say he really isn’t a face, but I find him a face. Nothing really sticks out in this match. I think it was made just to have The Shield be seen as well as giving Orton, Sheamus, and Show a match. I still think The Shield will go undefeated.
Alex’s Predicted Winner – The Shield
Jesse Predicts – Six-Man WWE Tag Team Match – Randy Orton, Big Show & Sheamus vs The Shield
Considering the fact that this match has the best build on the entire card as it has dominated Smackdown for the last 6 weeks, I am expecting something flat-out amazing here. Everyone involved has the potential to give us that big WOW moment, and I know that we will get at least one swerve here. The Shield has so much momentum going into this match that it is amazing. I honestly can’t think of the last time a group has looked so strong for this long in WWE. This match also affords WWE the chance to finally give Orton what he wants, a heel turn. I don’t want him joining The Shield, as they have more than proven themselves to be a force to be reckoned with, but just a simple RKO on Sheamus or Big Show and him walking out of the match would suffice. I’m calling it as JBL did on Smackdown, that a great team will beat the great individuals working as a team.
Jesse’s Predicted Winner – The Shield (pin) – Orton turns heel
Gesus Predicts – Six-Man WWE Tag Team Match – Randy Orton, Big Show & Sheamus vs The Shield
They have done everything right with The Shield. I have to say I’m also a huge fan of these guys. Much to Rikki’s discontent their entrance theme is my ring tone. About a month of it and I still geek out every time I get a phone call. I can’t wait to see how they get to the ring. Will they risk walking through the sea of people? This match, if it weren’t for The Shield, would be meh for me. The only person I like, other than The Shield, is Sheamus. Even he has started to get stale. I know they all can put on a great match. Honestly would love to see Orton finish his heel turn and help put The Shield over. Predictable? Yes, but would love to see a 3-way bout at Extreme Rules.
Gesus’ Predicted Winner – The Shield
Elto Predicts – Six-Man WWE Tag Team Match – Randy Orton, Big Show & Sheamus vs The Shield
Ambrose, Reigns and Rollins have been on a roll over the last few months and I expect WrestleMania to be no different. As things stand right now, a victory at The Show of Shows would mean much more to The Shield than it would to the opposition. The team of Orton, Sheamus and Big Show is easily combustible and that will probably play a huge role in the outcome of this match.
Elto’s Predicted Winner – The Shield
Chris Predicts – Six-Man WWE Tag Team Match – Randy Orton, Big Show & Sheamus vs The Shield
The logical finish to this match, especially according to all the rumors, is that Randy Orton turns on the team and takes out Show or Sheamus allowing The Shield to take home the victory. I’m going against the grain and actually saying that The Shield somehow gets a victory here as well. As I already said on the other site, I would LOVE for someone to debut as a fourth in the group (Christian is an option, but a big younger worker is still what I would prefer), which is actually where I’m going.
Chris’ Predicted Winner – The Shield via a mystery fourth member interfering
Ken Predicts – Singles Match – Ryback vs Mark Henry
I’m sure a lot of people can see this going either way, but I think there’s only one way they can book this. Ryback has the worst history at PPVs, but he’s on the way up. Henry might have been truly obnoxious about his return to the WWE – no matter what claims he’s made toward Richard. I think it’s about time Henry sees the writing on the walls and puts over the up and coming Superstar. Ryback is going to be around for quite a while, the same can’t be said for Henry. It’s time for Ryback’s PPV slump to take a turn for the better, and he win at WrestleMania. My only worry is that neither of these two are known for being the most careful in the ring, and being WrestleMania they’re going to go all out. Hopefully all out doesn’t leave one of them broken on the mat, or at least not Ryback sidelined due to injury.
Ken’s Predicted Winner – Ryback
Stacy’s Predicted Winner – Henry (dirty)
Alex Predicts – Singles Match – Ryback vs Mark Henry
When Mark Henry came back to WWE after his long hiatus and you told me that he would fight Ryback at Wrestlemania… I wouldn’t believe you. I read that Mark would only come back if he had a main event spot. Mark doesn’t have that. I sure thought he would win the Elimination Chamber match. He didn’t and is now fighting Ryback. It’s funny, though, how different sizes of the stars make the difference. If you have Rey Mysterio vs. Rob Van Dam… that would be excellent. If you have Big Show vs. The Great Khali… you would have a slow and stiff match. Ryback and Mark can’t do things like RVD or Mysterio. They are more like Khali and Show. Sure, they are a bit better, but I don’t see them stealing the show by any means. Yeah, there could be one great spot. I see much more out of Ryback after Mania than Mark, so I am giving Ryback my vote.
Alex’s Predicted Winner – Ryback
Jesse Predicts – Singles Match – Ryback vs Mark Henry
I have to say that after the work that I have seen leading up to this match, I hope it is quick. Considering the size of the two men, I hope that this isn’t just a match full of strikes, a couple of Irish Whips, a clothesline, and someone’s finisher. As I have yet to hear if Henry’s contract has been renewed, I’m calling it for Ryback.
Jesse’s Predicted Winner – Ryback
Gesus Predicts – Singles Match – Ryback vs Mark Henry
This is going to be a fight between two of the bigger guys muscle wise. You have to be a fool to think you’re getting a real wrestling match out of this. I’d kind of like to see a 5 min match between them where Ryback just runs through Henry in a kind of humbling of Henry for playing hardball with his return. Everyone want’s to see shell shock in this match, and I am one of them! The moment will be sick, and it’ll be Rybacks Mania moment.
Gesus’ Predicted Winner – Ryback
Elto Predicts – Singles Match – Ryback vs Mark Henry
Do I even need to explain this one? Big plans are in store for Ryback and what better way to initiate them than have him beat The World’s Strongest Man at the Grandest Stage of Them All?
Elto’s Predicted Winner – Ryback
Chris Predicts – Singles Match – Ryback vs Mark Henry
I’ve got to be honest; I am not really looking forward to this one. I have a feeling this match could be very sloppy and there’s a good chance someone is going away with an injury. It’s not that either worker is THAT bad, but the big on big matches like this don’t always turn out so great. I think that Ryback pulls off the victory after a train wreck of a match, he’ll attempt to hit his finish but might have to swap for his sick looking clothesline for the win, as I don’t know if he’ll truly be able to heft Henry up for the move. I’m actually expecting a clean win here.
Chris’ Predicted Winner – Ryback
Ken Predicts – WWE Tag Team Championship Match – Team Hell No (c) vs Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston
Regardless of Ziggler possibly cashing in his MITB case, I see big things for him and Big E in this match. I think it’s time for Team Hell No to drop the TTC, and who better (right now) than Ziggler and Big E to win? It’s WrestleMania, so this match is going to be crazy and all over the place. I’m sure AJ is going to add her own little swerve into the match, possibly costing Bryan gold at WrestleMania, for the second year in a row. I’m just hoping that this lasts longer than 18 seconds! Actually, I expect this to be a great match – maybe not show stealing, but right up there. The WWE ‘Universe’ will be talking about this match on Monday. I think Big E will be the one to end the match with his sheer power.
Ken’s Predicted Winner – Big E & Ziggy
Stacy’s Predicted Winner – Ziggler & Big E
Alex Predicts – WWE Tag Team Championship Match – Team Hell No (c) vs Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston
I have been saying for months that WWE needs to push Dolph. I gave up because they were no longer caring. They didn’t care about Dolph as he lost some important matches. He looks irrelevant. He doesn’t look like a threat. It’s sad. It’s disappointing as he still has the Money in the Bank briefcase. He has a World Title shot and he doesn’t even look like a main event star. I won’t say WWE ruined him but they hurt his image. I like Langston at his side as well as AJ but Ziggler doesn’t look like a threat if he keeps losing. I sure hope this is the big moment for Dolph. I would absolutely make him win here as well as having him cash in his briefcase later that night. I would give Dolph the biggest one day push of his life. He deserves it and they need to build a new guy. What better time to do it than the biggest show of the year? While that is what I am going to do, I think WWE is going to do the same, for once. While cashing in the briefcase is a stretch, I see the tag titles changing.
Alex’s Predicted Winner – Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston
Jesse Predicts – WWE Tag Team Championship Match – Team Hell No (c) vs Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston
Now here is another match I am looking forward to! Ziggler has been getting the rough end of things until recently, and while Hell No has been on the same page since Ziggler and Big E have backed them into a corner, the tension is still there and just needs the right catalyst. And what a better one than AJ! Considering all of the history between Hell No and AJ, I’m betting that she causes them to become distracted and lets Big E hit the Big End on someone, starting their break-up.
Jesse’s Predicted Winner – Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston (pin)
Gesus Predicts – WWE Tag Team Championship Match – Team Hell No (c) vs Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston
Team Hell No seems to have run its course. I really hope that something really cool that leads to them splitting up, or having one last good feud with Ziggler and Big E, leading to them splitting up. Though it’d be a shame to rob Daniel Bryan from another Wrestlemania win, I think a great match here really wouldn’t make it matter. I can’t speak enough about Ziggler. He has immense talent we just have yet to see it. With Big E debuting as well this would be a huge win for him too. I really don’t see how we can lose what ever way this match will go, unless it’s a screwball finish. Also keep in mind what will AJ being to the match? What shenanigans will she get into?
Gesus’ Predicted Winner – Ziggler & Big E
Elto Predicts – WWE Tag Team Championship Match – Team Hell No (c) vs Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston
It feels like the duo of Daniel Bryan and Kane has run its course and it is time for both of them to move on to something else. On the other hand, Ziggler desperately needs this win considering the awful way he has been booked as of late.
Elto’s Predicted Winner – Big E Langston & Dolph Ziggler
Chris Predicts – WWE Tag Team Championship Match – Team Hell No (c) vs Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston
I’m really torn on this one, I honestly don’t know if either outcome is really that great for either team. While a win would be big for Langston starting his run and Ziggler getting a title while they try to figure out what to do with his MitB case, I’m not too sure it’s the best scenario for him. Kane and Bryan have been rumored to split in this match leading to a serious feud between the two, I don’t see it occurring until either the next night on Raw or within a couple weeks. I see Ziggler and Langston getting the win, and the titles, after A.J. distracts Daniel and Kane is hit with Langston’s finisher before Ziggler getting the pin. This is what I think leads to Kane and Bryan turning against one another and finally splitting.
Chris’ Predicted Winner – Big E Langston & Dolph Ziggler
Ken Predicts – World Heavyweight Championship Match – Alberto Del Rio (c) vs Jack Swagger
This is one match I wish wasn’t on the card. Both of these men have lost the spark they had when these incarnations of their characters started. ADR was fantastic the first couple weeks after he turned face, but he quickly fell back into his old routines and became terribly boring again. Swagger’s return was shocking, and he seemed to have some semblance of personality, as well as a viciousness to carry him along. He looked great at Elimination Chamber, but then screwed things up – at least for us fans – when he got arrested 48 hours later. So we have two guys who have been little more than terribly boring, and in my opinion, carried by their sidekicks. Yes, I said it, and I completely believe that Zeb Colter has been carry Swagger, and Ricardo has been carrying ADR. At this point I’d much rather see Ricardo in the ring and see Zeb stomping around yelling than watch ADR and Swagger in the ring. Hopefully it’s over fast, ADR wins, Swagger destroys him after the bell, and Ziggler cashes in to become WHC!
Ken’s Predicted Winner – ADR w/ Ziggler cashing in
Stacy’s Predicted Winner – Swagger
Alex Predicts – World Heavyweight Championship Match – Alberto Del Rio (c) vs Jack Swagger
This match was going to be interesting and exciting but it seems like WWE took the story down a notch after Jack’s arrest. Before the arrest, Jack and Zeb Colter were making these videos about how the economy and how America is. They were great. The videos were tremendous. Now where are they? I haven’t seen them in awhile. Are they still even making them? I don’t see the hype for Jack anymore. While I was going to say that he would be winning, I just don’t think WWE will take that chance. I think Vince is getting tired and giving up on the gimmick. He changes his mind like a bubble bee chances direction while flying. I don’t see it for Jack anymore.
Alex’s Predicted Winner – Alberto Del Rio
Jesse Predicts – World Heavyweight Championship Match – Alberto Del Rio (c) vs Jack Swagger
Here is the other match on the card that has had some great build to it! I have been very vocal on the Breakdown about just how far Swagger has come since he returned from his hiatus, and how I love how WWE brought in Dutch Mantell as Zeb Colter to help improve Swagger on the mike while giving him an effective mouthpiece. And we know that both Del Rio and Swagger can put on a great technical showcase here, one that may be close to the Kurt Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero match at WrestleMania 20. With Ricardo’s “broken” ankle, I don’t see him becoming much of a factor in this match other than to balance out Zeb. With the beatdown on Raw of Del Rio, I can’t see him losing to Swagger here. But after the match, we will see Swagger snap and take out Del Rio, setting up Dolph to cash in, becoming the first person to cash in at WrestleMania and become a Double Champion!
Jesse’s Predicted Winner – Del Rio (sub) – Winner and NEW World Heavyweight Champion: Dolph Ziggler!
Gesus Predicts – World Heavyweight Championship Match – Alberto Del Rio (c) vs Jack Swagger
This is feud started off hot, Vince got scared of the media attention and how it’s received and let it cool off. That really makes me upset. This match could have big huge. Then again it’s also Swaggers fault as well. His attitude towards the push, as well as his overall career, has been pathetic. I could see this being a quick match burying Swagger right away. I am a huge Swagger fan, for his wrestling ability at least. Him as a person leaves a lot to be desired. ADR has let me down, but what can you say his face turn has been lack luster. I hope they can string something together and maybe make a moment, but as of right now, I’m not looking forward to the match.
Gesus’ Predicted Winner – ADR
Elto Predicts – World Heavyweight Championship Match – Alberto Del Rio (c) vs Jack Swagger
Vince McMahon may be high up on Swagger and Colter’s current gimmick, but I don’t see Del Rio dropping the title in this contest. Swagger’s DUI has made him look anything but reliable and it may have cost him his WrestleMania moment. Besides, it makes more sense for Ziggler to cash in against a babyface in order to generate heat. Assuming he does it soon, and I think it’s about time.
Elto’s Predicted Winner – Alberto Del Rio
Chris Predicts – World Heavyweight Championship Match – Alberto Del Rio (c) vs Jack Swagger
This has turned out to be a pretty tough match to call. Normally I would say they’ll be giving it to Del Rio because they’ve had he and Ricardo getting beat down mercilessly by Swagger and Colter. I’m torn on what happens though, because I would love to see Swagger taking the title and getting his mainstream success, I don’t know that it’ll happen that way. I’ve got an odd feeling we might see Del Rio take the victory, but while downed Ziggler slips in to cash in and become the new World Heavyweight Champion. Then again, I’m going to go with my gut and say Swagger takes the win to swerve the crowd after Colter distracts the ref and Del Rio is attacked with some sort of weapon.
Chris’ Predicted Winner – Alberto Del Rio
Ken Predicts – No Holds Barred Match, If Triple H loses, his career is over – Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H
For Brock to have any credibility going forward with the WWE, he has to win this match. Further, the WWE rarely follows thought on their ‘Retirement Match’ stipulations. Heck, Trip retired Foley in a HIAC match at No Way Out in 2000! The only retirement match that I can think of that’s held in any way is HBK’s, but he was the one who was really ready to retire. All that being said, Trip is going to win this one. There’s no way he’s going to retire in any way, so there’s no way he will lose. I’m sure Brock will be terribly nasty in this match, and I’m sure Heyman is going to do some horrible things, but I know HBK will help Trip out in every way he can, and I’ll be shocked if we don’t see Steph out to neutralize Heyman in some way.
Ken’s Predicted Winner – Triple H
Stacy’s Predicted Winner – Brock Lesnar
Alex Predicts – No Holds Barred Match – If Triple H loses, his career is over – Brock Lesnar vs Triple H
Sure this match is a rematch and a retirement match, but that doesn’t mean it is going to be bad. Triple H vs. Brock at Summerslam was good but I think they are going to make this one even better. There’s more stipulations and we have Paul Heyman as well as Shawn Michaels. Surely something is going to happen with those two. I want to see this match. But who is going to win though? It’s a hard choice. Brock signed with WWE for two more years. Triple H really can’t lose as I see more matches for him in the future. So, now what? WWE put themselves in a creative hardship. There is no easy way out. I would give Brock the win all the way, but can Triple H say he is going to retire? I don’t think it’s time yet. So, sadly, Brock will go down on this one.
Alex’s Predicted Winner – Brock Lesnar
Jesse Predicts – No Holds Barred Match – If Triple H loses, his career is over – Brock Lesnar vs Triple H
No Holds Barred Match If Triple H loses, his career is over. – Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H Sorry, while they have built this up well and have done a lot better on presenting this than I expected, I just can’t get behind this match. Maybe it is just the illogical way they set up the stipulations. Thanks to that, I don’t see The Game losing here. I just can’t wait for Triple H’s entrance, as he always has one of the best of the night!
Jesse’s Predicted Winner – Triple H (pin)
Gesus Predicts – No Holds Barred Match – If Triple H loses, his career is over – Brock Lesnar vs Triple H
Let’s face it, this is a rematch. Though do any of us really care? This has had a decent build, and think it has a nice way to change the pace of the traditional normal matches. I do like having a match that can get a little hardcore at Mania in absence of the MITB. I hope they don’t do another stupid “broken arm” angle. It was just unbelievable. At least to me it was. I am thrilled to see that Heyman HBK will be in each others corners and that should breathe some fresh life into this rematch. This should be a war but honestly not a highlight match I am looking forward to. I don’t think HHH will retire now but is a nice way to blow this feud off.
Gesus’ Predicted Winner – HHH
Elto Predicts – No Holds Barred Match – If Triple H loses, his career is over – Brock Lesnar vs Triple H
The career threatening stipulation would usually turn the tide in Triple H’s favor, but the involvement of Shawn Michaels has changed my mind on the outcome of this match. It does not make sense for HBK to assist The Game, as it would diminish his victory. I expect Lesnar to prolong his path of destruction with The Showstopper costing Triple H his career. Maybe we can even have a match between the former DX members at WrestleMania 30. What’s that? They are retired, you say? Please.
Elto’s Predicted Winner – Brock Lesnar
Chris Predicts – No Holds Barred Match – If Triple H loses, his career is over – Brock Lesnar vs Triple H
The obvious outcome to this one is Triple H taking the victory, as I don’t really see them having him retire due to Lesnar. I have a very funny feeling that we’ll have a three-way interference leading to Triple H getting the victory. HBK will wind up getting taken down by Lesnar while trying to take out Heyman at some point, Stephanie will show up and take down Heyman, but get pinned into a corner by an advancing Lesnar (with Triple H down) which leads to Batista making his return to save Steph and set up his Extreme Rules match with Lesnar. I know it’s a longshot as no news has come that Batista has signed, but what’s a better way to throw us off the scent than to bring in HBK?
Chris’ Predicted Winner – Triple H wins, by way of Batista helping him take down Lesnar
Ken Predicts – The Streak – The Undertaker vs. CM Punk
As much Richard wants to see Punk end the streak, I cannot predict that ending. Even if this is Taker’s last match (which I don’t think it is – though I don’t want to see him face Brock next year), I don’t think the streak should end with Taker losing in any way, shape, or form. All I really hope for here is that they give us a fantastic match without anyone getting hurt. If my predictions are correct, then I have both ‘Heyman guys’ losing their matches. Where will that leave Heyman in the aftermath?
Ken’s Predicted Winner – Taker
Stacy’s Predicted Winner – Taker
Alex Predicts – The Streak – The Undertaker vs CM Punk
This match really picked up just by this past week’s Raw. The ending was, not gold, but very good to hype for this match. I don’t know Undertaker’s shape, but Punk is beat up. Both can’t wrestle 100%, but I am not going to count either out. Undertaker works through the pain to put on an amazing match. Punk wants to impress the IWC fans once again so he will try to do anything. This is an easy prediction though. There’s no way Undertaker will lose. While Richard Gray would love for him to lose, I don’t think it should happen and I wouldn’t book it as such.
Alex’s Predicted Winner – Undertaker
Jesse Predicts – The Streak – The Undertaker vs CM Punk
So we are finally at the most controversial match on the card here at WNW, as Richard has been very vocal about the need to end The Streak here. And I see both sides of the argument. After Monday night, this match is going to be an intense roller coaster ride from the start! That was one of the most controversial things WWE has pulled in a very long time, and I hope it pays dividends in the match itself. While I know that both of them are not at 100%, I know that neither The Undertaker nor CM Punk will let themselves put on a bad match at WrestleMania. I expect a ref bump so that they can get a bit brutal, with Punk hitting a few Urn shots on The Undertaker, and for Paul Heyman to somehow get involved. But all of this cheating won’t be enough, and we will see Punk tap out to the Hell’s Gate!
Jesse’s Predicted Winner – The Undertaker (sub)
Gesus Predicts – The Streak – The Undertaker vs CM Punk
While I am really looking forward to this match, I don’t agree with the build. Before you jump to conclusions about being offended, I just want to say that’s NOT it at all. The build has been to the great memory Paul Bearer. I just think the build should have been geared toward the Reign vs. The Streak. The build for this match, with Punk holding the urn has been pretty predictable, that will contain what in my mind is predictable booking. The heel has gotten the better of the face for weeks, and now it’s time for the face to get the win and end the feud. It seems predictable, and really doesn’t give a rub to Punk for the win. Where as The Reign scenario makes the booking really unpredictable. It could possibly give some vindication to his already historic reign, that he has since been jobbed out. The possibility of Punk demanding respect from Undertaker, and having the longest reign as the WWE Champ made in my opinion, really questionable. Also they could have made it part of the story line that Taker gave Punk the nod on Smackdown for the push to get to where he was. That is why I am looking forward to this match. Maybe not. What direction where they going to go? With that being said, they didn’t go that route, and went with predictable way. I think Punk should have won, if it was The Reign scenario, but not with the urn. Also Living Color is going to play punk to the ring? Awesome!
Gesus’ Predicted Winner – Taker
Elto Predicts – The Streak – The Undertaker vs CM Punk
When this storyline began unfolding on TV, Richard stated that the pieces were in place for something monumental, yet I feel like the build-up has not been up to par. The end of the streak would be a massive payoff to what should be a very lengthy and heated feud. Unfortunately, the upcoming match does not feel much more special than The Phemom’s bouts against Triple H and Shawn Michaels from previous years. Maybe a Punk-Taker rematch at WrestleMania 30?
Elto’s Predicted Winner – Undertaker
Chris Predicts – The Streak – The Undertaker vs CM Punk
I think this had potential to be match of the night, until Punk got hurt. The two have worked together before and have put on some pretty damn good matches. I originally expected the same out of this one, but I’m not so sure with the Punk injury and Undertaker still being banged up and getting older, it may fall pretty flat. I see Undertaker beating Punk in a much shorter match than we’ve seen from him recently, then going off on him, setting up the “injury angle” to give Punk time off to heal from his recent injuries.
Chris’ Predicted Winner – Undertaker to 21-0, leading into another “dream match” for next year to be mentioned later.
Ken Predicts – WWE Championship Match – The Rock (c) vs. John Cena
I’m struggling on this one. On one hand Cena really needs to win to come back from his loss last year. On the other hand, I would have no trouble with The Rock retaining at WrestleMania and Cena winning the WWE Title at Extreme Rules. And then there’s the bigger question – will Cena actually turn heel? Honestly, it’s time for the WWE and John Cena to do something big, and what’s bigger than Cena turning heel? Oh, wait, Cena losing for the second year in a row to The Rock at WrestleMania! Yeah, I’m going there. It appears that no one else is thinking it’s possible, so why not throw it out there and be the screwball predictor? I’m known for making some strange predictions, so I’m going with The Rock to beat Cena, yet again. Cena can win the WWE Title at Extreme Rules, and maybe beat The Rock at WrestleMania next year. Honestly, I think Cena losing is what he really needs to turn him full on heel, and if the WWE doesn’t do that, I think they’re going to be in big trouble.
Ken’s Predicted Winner – The Rock
Stacy’s Predicted Winner – John Cena
Alex Predicts – WWE Championship Match – The Rock (c) vs John Cena
The rematch… the other rematch! Last year’s match was very enjoyable. People liked it and others didn’t, but I didn’t mind it. I liked it. I can see that this one will be even better. There’s more on the line. There’s more build for this one (build as in more months added to the one year that we had last year.) I am continuing this rivalry. It’s not a new one. It’s continuing. This rivalry has been going on for around 15 months. Consecutive? No, but it’s happening again. The Rock is advertised for the next PPV. What does that mean? He can very well win this match. I was surprised he won last year. I will be surprised if he wins this year though. I think WWE set this up all along. They liked it last year and hoped it would play out with Rock this year. Rock agreed and here is it. There is a time where Rock will no longer be part of WWE again. When is that? That’s uncertain but I don’t see him being around for much longer. He’s already been here for 3 years.
Alex’s Predicted Winner – John Cena
Jesse Predicts – WWE Championship Match – The Rock (c) vs John Cena
Finally! You don’t realize just how long a card is until you have to write about it! Despite Rocky being off of TV for three weeks, the Legends Panel they did two weeks ago on Raw really re-energized this feud. But after this past Raw, I am worried that it is just going to be yet another typical Cena match. His promo on Raw, coupled with Rock’s, really sucked the magic they had sparked back out of this. But I still hold high hopes that they will put on a great show. With the reaction Cena got and the bit of anger Cena showed, I really hope this is the time that Vince listens to the fans and turns Cena. While I may not like that kids hearts will be broken, Cena needs this in order to stay relevant.
Jesse’s Predicted Winner & NEW WWE Champion: John Cena (pin) (Dirty)
Gesus Predicts – WWE Championship Match – The Rock (c) vs John Cena
Time for the main event of the evening! This match is going to be intense. The ability to really split crowd. I can’t wait to see how they react. Will they effect the match at all? Will Cena turn heel? Should he turn heel? Should he win? Where do they go with it? So many questions. I hope Rock doesn’t get injured right out of the gate this time and while hard to top last year, put on a better match. I am going to watch this match as a fan and a kid. The Rock has done a lot for WWE since being back but upset like many he hasn’t had a match on free TV. Then again I can see the business side of it and that’s an argument for another day. Really what can be said though about this match no one hasn’t already been said? I don’t want to ramble to much because really there isn’t much anyone can say. We need to just enjoy this one as fans. Not IWC, marks, smarks, or what have you. This is the Hogan Rock match. We need to sit in awe of what culmination of wrestling past, present, and future collide for a magical moment. I sadly want to see Cena win, at least in a manner that makes Extreme Rules even better than last year!
Gesus’ Predicted Winner – John Cena
Elto Predicts – WWE Championship Match – The Rock (c) vs John Cena
I cannot imagine WWE would have the face of the company lose to a part-timer in two consecutive years. I expect Cena to gain the redemption he has been teasing with a win over The Great One.
Elto’s Predicted Winner – John Cena
Chris Predicts – WWE Championship Match – The Rock (c) vs John Cena
It’s almost 100% obvious to everyone who pays ANY attention to wrestling that Cena will be walking away from this match with the WWE title. There’s no way that we see him go 0-2 against The Rock, no matter how big a star Rocky has become. I originally had it pegged that Lesnar would attack Rock which would allow Cena to win and set up Lesnar vs. Rock for next year. While I think that’s still an outside chance (he comes out to make an impact after being upset over losing to Triple H), there’s still a chance it happens. I think Cena wins, cleanly, hitting the F-U (sorry, can’t do that AA crap) which leads to next year with him going after The Streak. I got the feeling a couple weeks back that his Mike Tyson quote was a little tip of the cards that this was in the works.

If you haven’t noticed I am excited for Extreme Rules. I just want to brag a little that I am going this year. I am ecstatic. While Mania should be about ending feuds, I would like to see it ignite flames while others cool off. This has the makings to be an epic ppv. Wrestlemania is always a spectacle that resonates around the world via view parties at bars, friends getting together, people in generally reminiscing great wrestling moments growing up. It’s a part of our culture and generally creates great buzz.
This has been a long group of predictions, but every one of us love writing for you, and love interacting with you, so that’s why we do it. I also hope you like my action pictures. I had a lot of fun creating them for you again this year. Huge props, and possibly a prize, for anyone who can name all my creative wrestler substitutions, and find my hidden surprise. We hope that you will join us in the Live Blog Sunday night because it’s going to be a raucous good time!
