Did WWE Pull A Batista With SummerSlam Main Event?

Numerous readers have sent us the link to a SummerSlam promotional poster that features John Cena and Brock Lesnar. The poster stems from Amazon’s listing for the pay-per-view’s Blu-Ray disc, which is available for pre-order and will be released a month after the show takes place, on September 16, 2014.

The poster doesn’t look legitimate, however, the idea of Cena vs. Lesnar for the title at SummerSlam has come up in recent creative meetings. In fact, we reported here on WrestlingNewsWorld.com on June 22, 2014 that Cena, as WWE World Heavyweight Champion, was the favorite to face Lesnar.

Cena is an announced participant in Sunday’s Ladder Match to crown a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.  We’ll have complete coverage from the show here at WrestlingNewsWorld.com.

well with a PPV in between MITB and SS it is possible we could see someone besides cena hold the belt for 3 weeks but i highly doubt that…. i really hope they pull the trigger on new stars but a Cena vs Lesnar rubber match should happen

    • Avalanchian

Well you wouldn’t want someone like Reigns or Wyatt with the title because you know Brock is gonna win it in SummerSlam. Wyatt doesn’t need another 1 on 1 match PPV loss and Reigns would be better used to challenge Brock later for it.

I don’t want cena getting closer to flairs record with a short and forgettable run

    • Bob’s Diner

Half of his reigns have been short and forgettable; he has 5 reigns under 30 days, including 1 that lasted all of 5 minutes. But then again, Flair has his share of short and forgettable reigns in his 16 as well – his last 2 alone were complete farces (one lasted a week, the other barely 24 hours, and both in the span of 2 weeks). It all comes around.

Its stupid to compare the situation of Batista to Lesnar. Batista was meant to be a surprise, while everyone assumes Lesnar is coming back.

    • JR Texx (Jamie)

considering Lesnar is suppose to win the title at some point…

  • Dave Barton

If Lesnar does indeed challenge for the title at SummerSlam, he has to win it…the man just ended The Streak, what kind of booking would it be if he lost?

    • David F

Lesnar also has to show up after summerslam for fall ppvs. I dont want see him win title and take break until Royal Rumble and there no wwe champ. I would have Lesnar beat Bryan for title at Royal Rumble then have Lesnar drop it at Wrestlemania like the Rock

  • Venom

It’s a catch 22. If lesnar is meant to challenge for the title at summerslam it’s better he beats someone like an Orton, Cena, heck even Del Rio or Sheamus since they are former champions. If you want to make a new star who beat the man who ended the streak have someone like Reigns, Wyatt or Cesaro win. Maybe retain and a MITB cash in.

  • Tom Mayer

Yawn… don’t think I’ll be renewing my WWE Network in August :p

“The poster doesn’t look legitimate” Lol. Pretty sure it’s the real deal or WWE wouldn’t have sent it to Amazon and other promotional outlets they use. Our local DirectTV where I live has the same poster hanging in their building.
