WWE – Randy Orton Attack Was Not Part Of A Storyline

WWE reps contacted me on behalf of WrestlingNewsWorld.com to confirm the Randy Orton attack in South Africa was not part of a storyline. They sent along the following statement:

“On Tuesday night at a WWE live event, Randy Orton was attacked in the ring from behind by a South African fan, who is being held by authorities pending criminal charges. Thankfully, Randy is well enough to continue performing on the tour in South Africa.”

For those that missed it, there was an incident following Orton vs. Big E Langston at Tuesday night’s WWE live event in Cape Town, South Africa.  After Orton’s victory, a member of the audience, identified as 20-year-old Tshepo Sekhabi, jumped in the ring and delivered a “low blow” to Orton’s groin as he was celebrating in the corner.  Sekhabi was quickly retained and Orton responded by delivering double middle fingers.

A clear video of the incident is available at this link.

im calling BS here, because have you ever noticed security at a WWE live event, if a fan jumped the barricade, theres no way they would have time to get to Orton who was on the other side of the ring. it seemed to me in the video, that the security took way too long to get to the fan… just a personal opinion though… I’d love feedback from Richard

heres your feedback: they dont have the same security at every event, especially in south africa.. just because the guys you saw were aware doesnt mean everyone else is

not the first time someone has Jumped in the ring. Happened Early this year If I remember right During a Cena match on raw(I think). some people move fast before security can stop them.

Fan do occasionally get to the ring, I rememberwhen a fan pushed a ladder over that Eddie guerro was trying to climb in match against rvd a fair few years ago. Not sure if it was or wasn’t a work though.

i think im sticking with richard that it was an act, because you dont just get up that quick from a shot to the family jewels, no matter how manly or even in the heat of the moment, a legit low blow hurts, and the dude conveniently makes a video afterwards, sorry but its a work

        • Jason

a direct shot is one thing, but a behind uppercut-low blow isnt as effective as one may think.

How are you sticking with Richard is this article is FROM Richard?

        • GuyLandau

Unless the guy attacking did a work low blow, as it would appear from the video. If he’s hoping to get signed for a feud with Orton that would be a good way to go about it.

Orton sold it out of instinct, but as soon as he saw it wasn’t Big E he got up and no sold that sucker. I’m not sure where I stand on the matter, I’m just giving the other side of the coin here.

The way it was executed, I just don’t see what WWE would have to gain by setting this up. I really think it was just some ignorant local indy wrestler who doesn’t know his a$$ from a hole in the ground and thinks THIS is how to get into the WWE…because, you know, if Santino Marella was just a fan that got picked out of the crowd & became I-C champ, then jumping Orton from behind is just 10x better.

Agree he thought he would make a name for himself and WWE would sign him up. Maybe even let him go for the Money In The Bank case at Summerslam…. The guy is an idiot.

Funny how when CM Punk was “attacked” by a fan only to hit
The wrong one didn’t make headlines on their website or made to be a big deal and this was. It’s bs and these ppl have nothing better to do but to try and throw kayfabe stuff on us smart marks who knows how this bs works!

  • Tna

Seriously who delivers a low blow like that unless your a trained wrestler ?

  • John

I understand why you ran this update, but lets be honest despite what WWE says, you know that this is a storyline.. Don’t get worked by them.
