Opening

WWE Raw Live Report
July 2 in Dallas, Texas

They open with a recap of the Vengeance PPV, and John Cena pinning Mick Foley to retain the WWE Title.

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler welcomed us to the show and Ross could barely be heard. Mr. Kennedy then came to the ring. Lillian Garcia is back. He took a mic and introduced himself as the person who should be WWE champion. The audio in the arena sucks tonight. Kennedy said the fans have placed an undue amount of stress on him. Here we go three minutes into the show with WWE's pre-emptive strike. He said from this moment on, his actions will serve one man, and one man alone. He said that man will be the next WWE champion and his name will be Mr... John Cena's music cut off Kennedy.

Cena said it's just another Raw, except for the new guy. He introduced himself to Kennedy, then said Kennedy is Mister... Cameltoe. This set off a crowd chant of "Cameltoe" and "Cena". Cena said the rumor is that Kennedy is a bit of a big mouth. He told Kennedy to look around and realize he's on Raw, where anything can happen on the show. Cena said he's going to put Kennedy's word to the test that it was the fans who cost him his Money In The Bank opportunity. He polled the crowd to see whether Kennedy is a liar. Cena did a stand-up routine on Kennedy's name, which was another example of the writers over-scripting Cena. King Booker's music interrupted and he walked out with Sharmell. Booker said he has beaten Cena in the past, and made him bow down to kiss royal feet. He then challenged Cena to a title match.

Randy Orton's music interrupted and he walked out on the entrance ramp. Orton said he's been the most successful and longest-tenured wrestler on Raw, but he's never had a one-on-one title match against Cena. He said the cold hard fact is that no one on the roster deserves a title match more than him. Lashley's music then interrupted and Lashley strolled out to the ring. Lashley said a cold, hard fact is that Kennedy lost the MITB. He said he never lost the ECW Title, therefore, he is an uncrowned champion, and he won't rest until he takes the belt from Cena.

Before anything could be resolved, William Regal walked out on stage in a suit. He delivered a very important message that The Coach is on holiday, so he is in charge tonight. Regal said there will be a new #1 Contender by the end of the night. They're doing Beat the Clock. The winner faces Cena at the Great American Bash. He paused, then told Orton that his match is next.

[Q2]

[Commercial Break]

1 -- RANDY ORTON vs. JEFF HARDY

Orton didn't waste any time trying to score a pin to establish a low time to beat. At 1:00, Hardy hit a plancha on the floor on Orton. Hardy made a cover, but Orton came back with a clothesline in the corner. Orton applied a resthold, while checking the clock on the Titantron. At 4:00, Orton applied a leg grapevine and he tried pinning Hardy's shoulders to the mat, but to no avail. Hardy made a comeback at 5:00 and landed a double foot kick to the chest. He then made a cover for a nearfall. Hardy hit a facebuster, then went up top for the Swanton Dive, but Orton wisely rolled to the apron. He then caught Hardy with a slingshot across the top rope. Orton made a follow-up cover, but only for a nearfall. Hardy suddenly caught Orton with Whisper in the Wind at 6:45 for a nearfall. In a sweet sequence, Hardy went for the Twist of Fate, but Orton countered right into the RKO for the win.

WINNER: Orton at 7:06. Slow going early on despite the natural sense of urgency. Nice finish. (**)

They cut backstage where Melina and Maria were walking backstage.

[Q3]

Candice Michelle came to the ring after they aired a clip of her winning the Women's Title at Vengeance. Ross talked about Candice's hard work and effort finally resulting in a title victory. She joined Ross and Lawler ringside to call the Melina vs. Maria match.

2 -- MELINA vs. MARIA

They talked in center ring, then Melina shoved Maria, who responded with a vicious Thesz Press. Melina came back with a slam using a handful of hair, then she put Maria in the spin cycle before going back to the hair. Melina stared down Candice at 2:00, then she caught Maria with a kick to the face when Maria tried to get her attention. Melina snapped on Maria with forearm blows, but Maria snapped back with forearms and a standing bulldog. Melina then caught Maria with a jawbreaker across the top turnbuckle before hitting the Big Show step-over leg slam for the win.

Afterward, she approached the silent Candice Michelle. Melina tried to choke Candice, but Candice responded with a stiff forearm blow. She then rammed Maria hard into the apron before chucking her into the guardrail. Dang, girl. Candice stood on the announce table and hoisted the Women's Title belt in the air.

WINNER: Melina in 4:00. Competitive match. Candice took the Goldberg approach tonight of not saying much, but looking impressive when things became physical. (*)

Santino vs. Umaga for the IC Title is up next.

[Commercial Break]

Q4]

They aired a clip from the New Year's Revolution PPV in January when Triple H tore his quad. Hunter did a voice-over on how it felt when his muscles tore apart. They recapped and showed footage of Hunter's surgery with Dr. James Andrews six months ago. This is why I didn't go to medical school. They did the training video on Hunter's rehab. "I don't want to just comeback and wrestle," he said. "I can't read the future, but eleven-time champion sounds good to me."

Backstage, Dusty introduced his son, Cody, to Hacksaw Duggan. Dusty talked to Cody about legends. Randy Orton then interrupted and said one day, Cody can be just like him. He said he followed in his father's footsteps and turned out to be better than him. He said Cody could do the same. Cody cut off Randy and told him to stay away from Dusty. Dusty then told Randy that his problem is being disrespectful. Randy laughed at Dusty's assessment, then slapped Dusty hard across the face. Cody wanted a piece of Randy, but Dusty held him back. Ringside, Lawler and Ross did the line about Randy having all the potential in the world, but having no respect for anyone.

They recapped Santino Marella's fluke victory for the IC Title several months ago. You usually don't see this type of video unless he's dropping the belt. They recapped Umaga dominating Santino at Vengeance until he earned a DQ. They didn't include the audio of the audience turning him babyface.

Backstage, Santino approached Maria to check on her physical condition. She said she's OK. Maria said she's more concerned about Santino putting the belt on the line against Umaga. She said Santino doesn't have to do this. Santino said people don't believe he should be champion, which is why he must take the challenge tonight. Santino left the camera shot, then suddenly came back and planted a kiss on Maria.

[Commercial Break]

Umaga came to the ring first, then Santino walked out with a very determined look on his face.

[Q5]

3 -- SANTINO MARELLA vs. UMAGA -- Intercontinental Title match

Santino went for a waist lock after the opening bell, but Umaga quickly pushed him down to the mat. Santino went for a kick, but Umaga grabbed his leg and threw him down. Santino avoided a splash, then hit a kick that cleared Umaga to the floor. Santino was too aggressive on the follow-up, and Umaga yanked him out of the ring to the floor before flinging him into the ringpost. Back in the ring, Umaga missed with a corner splash and ate the ringpost. Santino went for a top rope splash, but Umaga caught him in mid-air with a Samoan Drop. Umaga then warmed up the train and landed the rear splash in the corner. He followed with the Samoan Spike to the throat for the pin and the win to capture the belt. Afterward, Umaga took the belt in his teeth to show it off for the hard camera.

WINNER: Umaga in 3:00 to capture the IC Title. And thus ends the Santino experiment, for now. Predictable squash. (1/2*)

They showed Booker and Sharmell walking backstage toward the ring. Time to Beat is 7:06.

[Commercial Break]

Tomorrow night on ECW, a new #1 Contender, C.M. Punk, goes after Johnny Nitro.

Ringside, Ross and Lawler talked about the new IC champion. Lawler tried to demonstrate the impact of the Samoan Spike on Ross, who didn't take too kindly to the gesture. They talked about Orton setting the time at 7:06 for the Beat the Clock challenge. Booker and Sharmell then walked out. Val Venis is the opponent.

4 -- KING BOOKER (w/Sharmell) vs. VAL VENIS -- Beat the Clock match

Booker caught Venis with a standing sidekick in the opening minute for a nearfall. At 2:00, Booker applied a rolling armbar, but Venis reached the bottom rope to break the hold. Venis made a comeback, but Booker met him with a back elbow smash for a nearfall. Venis rallied with a nice sequence of moves off the ropes on Booker, resulting in a nearfall at 4:00. Venis went to the ropes once too often, and Booker caught Venis with a back kick followed by the scissors kick for the win with 2:36 left on the clock.

WINNER: Booker at 4:30 to set the clock. A few nice sequences there. Good victory for Booker. (*1/2)

[Q6]

Backstage, Mr. Kennedy found Super Crazy and asked him if he understands the concept of the Beat the Clock challenge. Kennedy said that he has to beat Super Crazy to get his match with John Cena at the Bash. He said everyone knows Crazy is going to lose anyways, so he just needs to save himself some pain and humiliation by laying down for the three count. Kennedy suggested some pesos would be coming Crazy's way for his services. Crazy said yes that he understands. They seemed to have an agreement.

[Commercial Break]

Kennedy came out for the match, followed by Super Crazy.

5 -- MR. KENNEDY vs. SUPER CRAZY -- Beat the Clock match

The bell sounded and Crazy didn't appear to be ready to place himself on the mat. Kennedy then turned his back and asked for the ceiling mic. He said don't ever, ever, ever disrespect him. He tried to introduce himself, but Super Crazy rolled up Kennedy from behind with a small package for the win. Crazy jumped out of the ring and celebrated the victory, while Kennedy could only hold his head as he leaned against the bottom rope. Kennedy then walked up the ramp to chase Crazy through the curtain.

WINNER:Super Crazy at 0:15; Kennedy doesn't qualify. That answers the question of whether Kennedy was healthy enough to wrestle. (n/a)

[Commercial Break]

Tomorrow night on ECW, Punk and Nitro choose each other's opponents.

Ross and Lawler talked about Super Crazy surprising Mr. Kennedy. They said Bobby Lashley is the remaining wrestler to qualify for the match against Cena.

They cut backstage where King Booker and Sharmell talked to Shelton Benjamin, who they suspected is Lashley's opponent tonight. Booker told Shelton that he can trust him to last more than 4:30 tonight. He said he doesn't even have to beat him, just beat the clock. Booker guaranteed Shelton the first title shot once Booker is champion if he gets the job done. Shelton kissed Booker's ring, then walked away. Booker and Sharmell shared a liplock.

Backstage, Todd Grisham interviewed Dusty Rhodes about Randy Orton. Rhodes turned away from Grisham, then turned to the camera and told Orton to meet him in the ring next week.

Elsewhere, Carlito found Jillian Hall to complain about being stuck in a match with The Sandman. Sandman then interrupted with a beer in hand. He sprayed beer on Carlito, then said tonight, Carlito is going to find out how much he loves to fight. Carlito took a bite of apple and said he's cool. He spit it in Sandman's face, then Sandman took a swig of beer and spewed it in Carlito's face. Suddenly, Ron Simmons replaced Sandman and shouted, "Damn!" at Carlito.

[Q7]

[Commercial Break]

Carlito came to the ring, then Sandman did a very lengthy beer entrance. They must have some time to fill.

6 -- CARLITO vs. THE SANDMAN

They went to a collar and elbow tie-up to start things off. Carlito got in a few left hand blows before Sandman answered with an elbow smash. Carlito then sat down on a headlock, but Sandman fought to his feet and walked into an elbow smash. Carlito found the Kendo Stick to his liking, but the referee took it away. Sandman then stole it from the ref and caned Carlito to earn a DQ.

WINNER: Carlito via DQ in 3:00. One of the first chapters in the feud's story, so no sense in giving away a clean finish on free TV. (1/2*)

They showed Lashley walking backstage toward the ring.

[Commercial Break]

Bobby Lashley came to the ring for the main event. Shelton Benjamin followed out, giving him his first main event match in seemingly forever.

7 -- BOBBY LASHLEY vs. SHELTON BENJAMIN -- Beat the Clock match

This has potential to be a great 4:30 amateur wrestling match, but Shelton's going to spend most of the match trying to avoid a lock up to let the clock run out. Lashley chased down Shelton with amateur holds to start things off, then Shelton ducked out of the ring. Back in the ring, Shelton walked into an overhead slam, then he ran out of the ring when Lashley threatened with a spear. They cut to Booker and Sharmell watching on a monitor backstage. Shelton avoided getting counted out, then Lashley chased him back into the ring from the floor. Suddenly, Shelton caught Lashley with a dangerous, yet spectacular counter into a float-over DDT off the ropes. We're down to 2:00 with Shelton in control. Classic story of the babyface in jeopardy against the clock. Lashley made his comeback with 1:30 left and hit a forward shoulder breaker. At 1:00, Lashley put Shelton in the Torture Rack, but Shelton slipped out and caught Lashley with a kick to the face for a nearfall. 30 seconds left, and Shelton got greedy. He hopped up top for a spin kick, but Lashley met him in mid-air with a spear to score the pin with 25 seconds left. Afterward, they replayed the finish and Lashley paced in the ring.

WINNER: Lashley at 4:05 to Beat the Clock. Great drama at the end, and Shelton pulled off some impressive moves during the match. Crowd was into the sense of desperation from the babyface. (*3/4)

They showed Cena walking backstage toward the ring for the contract signing.

[Commercial Break]

Regal comes down to the ring with a clip board in hand. He takes a mic and tells us that in less than three weeks is the GAB. The WWE Championship will be on the line. Lashley will be the challenger. Lashley comes down to the ring. Video of Lashley spearing Shelton and winning with time to spare. Regal then announces Cena who comes out to much heat. Lashley faces away from Cena’s entrance. Cena says Lashley knows who he is and he certainly knows who Lashley is. He says Lashley’s a hell of an athlete and a great performer and he’s looking forward to the match. Lashley say he agrees. Lashley signs.

Kennedy comes out and cuts them off. Booker comes out too. They say to stop the signing as it’s a farce. Cena cuts them off and tells them to come get some. They rush the ring and Cena and Lashley fight side by side. After the heels are beaten from the ring Cena signs the contract. Lashley then spears Cena. He looks at the belt then drops it next to Cena. Lashley leaves the ring and Cena sits in a corner hugging his belt.
