WWE RAW Results - 04/16/07

Milan, Italy

Report By: Richard Trionfo PWInsider.com

WWE RAW Opener:

Coach comes out to begin tonight's show. He says that he announced the main event for Backlash, but was over ruled. He said while Michael Pena gets his way at Backlash, John Cena will face Rated RKO in a handicap match. He then introduced Mr. McMahon. Vince came out and power walked to the ring with his gangster hat in place. Vince said he had a much better reception in France, and everywhere else other than here. Vince said Milan is supposed to be the fashion capital of the world, but then said to turn the camera on the people to see if that was true. He then said to the Italian people that garlic is not an aphrodisiac. He then introduced Umaga. Vince then introduced a recap video of what Umaga did to Bobby Lashley last week on Raw. Vince then said at Backlash, Umaga, Shane, and himself would destroy Lashley. He said Shane wasn't there tonight, and neither was Bobby Lashley. Vince said Umaga is ready for action, so he's issued an invitation for anyone in the locker room to come and challenge him. No one came out, so Vince said Umaga would put up the I.C. Title. Again, no one answered the call. Vince said all they've got left is someone from the crowd. Vince scared the shit out of a little kid in the crowd by saying it should be him. Vince found a "fan" that he got to come in. The crowd started some soccer chants, and Vince told them to shut up. The guy said his name was Santino Marella, or something along those lines. After plenty of stalling, Vince called for a ref.

Intercontinental Championship Match

Referee: Chad Patton

Santino Marella vs. Umaga (c)

The start:

The crowd chanted for Santino, and he took his shirt off. He has a really cool lion tattoo on his back. Santino tried some kicks on Umaga, avoided some hits and scored a near fall with a roll up. Vince then came back into the ring, saying there was a misunderstanding. He said he forgot to announce that this was a no holds barred match, and that anything goes. Armando slapped Santino, who slapped him back and got run over by Umaga.

The Finish:

Umaga slammed Santino and then gave him a leg drop. Umaga then continued to decimate Santino. Bobby Lashley came out in a suit and took Umaga off the top rope. Lashley started beating on Umaga before knocking out Estrada. Vince brought a chair into the ring, but Lashley took it from him, hit Umaga three times with it, then speared Umaga and put Santino on top of Umaga for the pin.

Winner and new Intercontinental Champion, Santino Marella

Back on RAW:

Lawler was in the ring with Lashley and Santino. Lashley was bad on the mic as usual. Santino thanked Lashley and WWE, and I believe proclaimed something about thanking Italy, not sure as he spoke Italian.

Backstage:

Carlito was backstage, and Flair came in to ask him if he was ready for their match. Carlito said he doesn't know if he should team with Ric, as he let him down last week. Flair said they need to show everyone that they are the best tag team, and then he walked out as Carlito looked on after him.

Next Week:

A promo aired for next Monday that will feature the Cena vs. Michaels Wrestlemania rematch in London.

Referee: Marty Elias

Ric Flair and Carlito vs. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas

The start:

Ross said Carlito needed a win tonight as he felt bad about losing the fall last week. Shelton and Carlito started out. Carlito gained an early advantage and took out both Haas and Benjamin with hip tosses, a drop kick, and then a lariat. Shelton tagged Haas, and Carlito tagged in Flair. Flair chopped Haas, and then got a chop block on him. Flair got taken out by Benjamin and then Haas pulled Flair to their corner and tagged in Shelton.

The Finish:

Shelton got a near fall after back dropping Flair. TWGTT both worked over Flair, tagging in and out. Flair chopped his way out of the corner and then back suplexed Haas in the middle of the ring. Haas got to Benjamin and Flair got to Carlito. Carlito got a lot of offense on TWGTT. Haas tripped up Carltio and then Benjamin caught him in the T-Bone suplex for the pin fall.

Winners - Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas

The Aftermath:

Carlito walked away from Flair and Torrie Wilson and up the ramp, pissed off from the match.

Backstage:

Speaking of Maria, she's backstage with John Cena. Cena asks if she has a question. She wants his thoughts on his handicap match. Before he can answer, Shawn Michaels steps in. He says before Wrestlemania, when Cena was in these situations, he had his back. Now he doesn't care what happens to him. HBK says next week he's going to leave Cena on his back, and there's absolutely nothing he can do about it.

Backstage:

Melina is looking at herself in a mirror when Johnny Nitro comes in. She tells him he's going to win his match with Eugene tonight. Eugen then came in and said hi to them both before running off.

Referee: Jack Doan

Johnny Nitro vs. Eugene

Nitro started wailing on Eugene right as he got in the ring. Nitro hit a knee to the back of the head from the second rope. Nitro did a one man snap shot neck breaker for the pin.

Winner - Johnny Nitro

In the arena:

Todd Grisham introduced an Italian announcer to announce the Diva fashion show. First out was Candice Michelle in some type of angel outfit. Victoria was next, and she tripped up coming out, so she took her shoes off. She was wearing a white nightgown type dress. Mickie came out in tight jeans and a white top that James would love, by the way. Maria came out in a Betty Boop top and a short skirt. Torrie was next in short black shorts and a black "top". Melina came out in a red dress and her hair up, which doesn't look great on her, I must say. The Italian announcer said something that I didn't understand, but took a crowd vote on who the winner was. Torrie Wilson was declared the winner. Melina didn't like it and attacked Torrie. Mickie took out Melina and then the face women stood in the ring while Melina and Victoria just walked up the ramp.

Referee: Marty Elias

Jeff Hardy vs. Lance Cade

The start:

Cade took Jeff to the corner and the ref pulled him off. Cade had some offense and then Hardy got away and hit the Whisper in the Wind. Cade tried to run out but Hardy threw him back in. Cade threw Hardy to the outside, and the ref stopped Murdoch from getting a cheap shot. Jeff hit a drop kick on Murdoch on the outside. The crowd is firmly behind Hardy.

The Finish:

Cade took control in the corner. Jeff landed the mule kick on Cade and then took over before running into an elbow. Jeff took out Cade with a few lariats and took total control. Hardy went for the Swanton, but Cade got his knees up. Cade hit a high impact clothesline for the pin fall.

Winner - Lance Cade

Condemned:

A Condemned promo about Austin doing his own stunts.

Referee:

Chris Masters vs. Super Crazy

Chris Masters was in the ring. He said Italy's is known for its great works of art. He names off some artists but says none of them created a masterpiece like Chris Masters.

The start:

Masters overpowered Crazy early on. Crazy hit a couple of drop kicks and sent Masters to the outside. He then hit a somersault to the outside over the top rope. Masters gained control back in the ring. Masters gained a near fall after a hard Irish whip into the corner. Crazy tried to mount a comeback with a crucifix, but Masters just dropped down on top of him.

The Finish:

Masters applied a rest hold as the crowd chanted for Super Crazy. He fought out but got back body dropped for his troubles. This match makes me want to sleep. Crazy tries to work on the legs of Masters and then hits a few high impact flying moves for a near fall. Masters got the pin after countering a wheelbarrow attempt into a suplex.

Winner - Chris Masters

Backstage:

Orton talked to Edge backstage. Orton said he wanted to let bygones be bygones, as they need to take out Cena tonight. They both agreed they've done stuff to each other, but they need to have each other's backs tonight.

Handicap Match

Referee: Michael Chioda

John Cena vs. Edge and Randy Orton

The start:

Edge started out for Rated RKO. Cena hit a fisherman's suplex for a near fall and stayed on Edge. The Italy crowd started chanting "Cena Sucks". Edge tagged Orton in. Cena got a near fall on Orton. Orton took control on Cena and hit a hard European uppercut. Cena fought back bought ran into a big boot after Edge blind tagged himself in.

Mid-match notes:

Edge knocked Cena to the outside as they came back from break. Orton slammed Cena's face onto the Italian announce table. Orton picked Cena up and threw him into the ring, where he landed multiple right hands. Orton tagged Edge back in. Cena fought back on Edge, but then took a boot to the face. Orton got tagged back in. Orton hit a drop kick on Cena and then started clubbing away at him. Edge got tagged in, and as Cena tried to get an FU on him, Edge countered it. More "Cena sucks" chants. Edge propped Cena on the top rope. Cena fought Edge off and knocked him onto the mat. He then hit a leg drop onto Edge. Orton attacked Cena, and then HBK came down to the ring. Cena gained the head of steam and hit his comeback moves. He landed the five knuckle shuffle on Edge.

The Finish:

Cena went for the FU, but Orton dropkicked him, which knocked the ref out. All three men went down, and then as Edge set up for a spear on Cena, he moved out of the way and hit Orton with it. HBK got in the ring, and hit Edge with the Sweet Chin Music. Cena landed the FU on Shawn Michaels and then pinned Edge.

Winner - John Cena
