WWE Raw Results - 6/30/2008
Ford Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
- WWE Monday Night RAW opens up this week with a clip of the set collapsing on Vince McMahon last week and the Superstars with officials helping him out.
- We go to a prerecorded video of Shane McMahon talking about Vince and saying besides what we know, Vince is a very private person and to protect his privacy, they won't be revealing his condition. Shane asks that all WWE Superstars, officials, crew members and employees pull together in this time of uncertainty. We go to the opening RAW video.
- The pyro and music explode in the arena, live from Oklahoma City as Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler welcome us to RAW. Tonight, we will see Chris Jericho vs. Kofi Kingston in a rematch.
- The Oklahoma Sooners music hits and out comes Oklahoma's own Jim Ross to a thunderous ovation from the hometown crowd. Ross makes his way in the ring and is taken back by the ovation from the fans as he thanks them. Ross says it is a magnificent honor to be standing in this ring, on this night with the fans watching around the world to say it's damn sure good to be home. JR says he is excited about a new journey he is embarking on as the voice of Friday Night SmackDown.
Ross says he hopes the fans will join him on SmackDown and says they're going to raise hell and take the show to places it has never been before. He says he's excited about the chance to work with Mick Foley as well. Ross says for over a decade, his driver, travel partner and hell, older brother Jerry Lawler and thanks him for some wonderful years. Ross says going into the Hall of Fame with Lawler makes it even special and says he is a helluva guy to him. Ross says he knows Michael Cole is going to do a good job on RAW and the crowd boo's Cole.
Ross says there have been some interesting moments here in Oklahoma City and talks about some of his memories from the years. Ross says again he hopes the fans will join him on Friday nights and says it has been an amazing run here on RAW. Ross says its great to be home, great to be on RAW and thanks the fans for being here tonight. Ross encourages them to eat a little more BBQ when Edge's music hits.
The World Heavyweight Champion Edge comes out with Ryder and Hawkins with him. The three make their way to the ring where Jim Ross waits. Edge says when he heard about JR's farewell address tonight, he just had to make an appearance. Edge says JR's arrogance never ceases to amaze him and asks what makes him think anyone cares about him or the Sooners. Edge says nobody cares about JR, his relationship with The King or Michael Cole and never will. Edge tells him to put that in his blog, BBQ boy!
Edge tells him he can really start his Hall of Fame career by coming over to his show and calling his Hall of Fame matches. Edge says instead of JR saying "Stone Cold, Stone Cold" he'll be saying "Edge wins, Edge wins." Edge tells him to try and say that. Ross doesn't. Edge says put that one in the record books, Ross is speechless. Edge asks Ryder and Hawkins to escort Jim Ross out of the building and help him recite that. Edge says his farewell address is officially over as Ryder and Hawkins lead him to the back.
Edge says now that that's out of the way, he says he wants to remind the RAW fans that WWE's "flagship" show is missing a few things like a General Manager and says his show has the greatest ever, his fiancee, the love of his life, Vickie Guerrero. He says its also missing The Undertaker, but wait, the entire WWE is because he banished him from the WWE. Edge tells the fans they're welcome. He says another thing the show is missing is a World Champion. He says he wanted to come here tonight and let all the RAW Superstars know that they will never have a shot at his World Heavyweight Championship. Edge raises the belt high.
Edge says they can challenge Triple H for his WWE Title but unless it's a Draft show, you will never see him on Monday nights again. Edge's music hits as he raises the World Heavyweight Title high in the air and makes his way to the back. As Edge reaches the entrance way, Batista's music hits and The Animal comes out, staring Edge down.
Batista chases Edge back to ringside and attacks him, nailing him with right hands. He picks Edge up and slams his back into the ring and guard rail a few times. Batista throws Edge head first into the steel steps and continues to beat him over the guard rail and into the crowd.
They go back to ringside and Baista slams Edge's head numerous times into the announcers table. Batista picks him up and drops him face first onto the table, then throwing him into the steel steps. Batista throws Edge in the ring now as the crowd chants his name.
The Animal lifts Edge high up in the center of the ring and drops him with a huge Batista Bomb. Batista stands over a fallen Edge, says a few words to him and makes his way to the back as his music plays on.
- As Batista makes his way to the back, CM Punk's music hits and out he comes with a referee! The match is on!
Edge vs. CM Punk
Lilian Garcia announces the match and the bell rings. Punk picks Edge up, nails the GTS and pins Edge for the win!
Winner and new WWE World Heavyweight Champion - CM Punk
After the match, a stunned Edge slinks his way to the back as the new World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk celebrates with the fans as we go to commercial.
WWE Women's Champion Mickie James vs. Jillian Hall
Back from commercial and the WWE Women's Champion Mickie James makes her way to the ring after we see a recap of CM Punk's big win. Out next is Jillian Hall who is singing horribly.
Jillian gets in the ring and keeps on singing. Mickie goes at her and makes her roll out fo the ring. Mickie with a few kicks on the apron and a hurrancanrana on the floor. Cole mentions the Women's Title is not on the line tonight. Back in the ring and Jillian has control of the match, working on Mickie's shoulder that they say is injured.
Mickie fights back out of the corner but gets dropped again by Jillian who gets a 2 count. Jillian misses a big move and Mickie counters with a kick and a slam of her own. Jillian kicks Mickie in her hurt shoulder again and takes back control for a minute. Mickie counters an attack in the corner and drops Jillian with a roundhouse kick to the jaw, pinning her for the win.
Winner - Mickie James
- Backstage we see Rey Mysterio making his way to the ring as Cole calls it his first official appearance on RAW. We go back to commercial.
- Back from commercial and Cole and Lawler talk about RAW getting Rey Mysterio in the Draft last week. Rey's music hits and Lilian Garcia introduces RAW's newest Superstar, Rey Mysterio, who makes his way to the ring to a nice pop.
Rey says first thing is first as he congratulates CM Punk on beating Edge and bringing the World Title back to RAW. Rey says that was kind of weird, kind of strange, saying that I presume. Rey says his whole WWE career and life was SmackDown up until last week. Rey said he was shocked when he got Drafted but now that he's here, he likes it and is excited. Out comes Santino Marella.

Santino says since Shane asked them to pull together and act as one, he has came to officially welcome Rey and extends his head. Santino says any man who hides behind a mask is either ugly, stupid or Batman. Santino tells Rey he isn't the Batman. Rey goes to talk and Santino tells him to shut his face. Santino says he doesn't understand Rey's popularity and shows the cover of the new WWE Magazine on the screen, with Rey on the front of it.
Santino starts picking on Rey's height and other stuff. Santino says he submitted a very excellent photo of himself but they used Rey's photo instead. Santino shows a photo of him stretched out on a bed with a rose. Santino tells Rey if he wants his experience here to be a good one, he should mind his business and behave because if not, it could be very bad for him. Santino says he will allow him to speak now and tells him to say it in a language we can all understand.
Rey takes the mic and knocks Santino in the head with it a few times. Rey trips Santino on the ropes and hits the 619, leaving Santino lay. Rey's music hits and he makes his way to the back as Santino struggles in the ring.
- Jerry Lawler tells us we will hear from the new World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk up next as we go back to commercial.
- Back from commercial and Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler lead us into how CM Punk won the World Heavyweight Title and before when Batista destroyed Edge at ringside.
We go backstage where Todd Grisham is with CM Punk. Punk says he has to do so many things, thank so many people and get his name put on the Title. Punk thanks Batista for the assist. Here comes JBL, who asks Punk if he is joking right? He's celebrating? JBL points out how Punk defeated a defenseless man. JBL asks him if he is proud of that and Punk says he's proud to be a Champion. JBL says he can go to bed tonight knowing that he is a paper Champion or step up in the ring tonight with greatness, putting the World Heavyweight Title on the line against him tonight. JBL says it's a yes or no question. Punk asks him if he wants to be the first one? His answer is yes. Tonight, CM Punk vs. JBL for the World Heavyweight Title.
- Back from commercial and the music of John Cena hits as he makes his way to the ring, running his mouth before actually hitting the ring. Cena grabs the mic and says he told the entire world that his and Triple H's match last night would indeed be a classic moment. He says no, he did not win the WWE Title last night but it is a loss that he takes with pride because it proved one thing, that indeed they are the two best in the business and that match will go down in history just like tonight.
Cena says the fans will be able to look back and say I was there when CM Punk cashed in the Money in the Bank and became the new World Champion. Cena says he doesn't like the way JBL is trying to bully his way in. Cena says he doesn't know much about Punk, but he likes the kid. He says he figures the kid is a fighter so he would have said yes to anyone and names off a bunch of people and then says his own name. Cena says that's not a bad idea, him vs. Punk. He says since Vince isn't here tonight and RAW has on GM, then Punk should be the one to choose.
JBL tells John Cena that he will not be wrestling Punk tonight because that match is his. JBL says right now, he is declaring martial law in WWE and says he can not have Cena in the building tonight as he tries to win the World Championship. Security comes out from the back and stands by JBL. He says this is not WWE's security, but his own paid security he hired for Cena. JBL says tonight he will be come the new Champion and tells the security to remove Cena from the ring. JBL follows them to the ring where Cena gets ready to fight.
The security team attacks Cena and holds him as JBL delivers a series of big right hands. They drag Cena out of the ring and to the back as he tries to fight them off. They make it down the isle when Cena breaks away but JBL helps them regain control. They drag Cena to the back and out of sight as JBL follows them back. We see a camera backstage of Cena still struggling with the guys backstage as they take him towards the outside with JBL still yelling. They finally get Cena out of the building as we go back to commercial.
WWE Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase vs. Darren Wade and Steve Anthony
Back from commercial and the new WWE Tag Team Champions are making their way to the ring where the two local guys are waiting. Lilian does the introductions and the match is ready to go.
Cody starts the match out first with one of the guys, going back and forth. Ted DiBiase tags himself in and hits the guy from the back. Cody gets tagged back in and drops a knee on the guy's face. The other jobber tries to come in the ring but gets leveled by Ted DiBiase's clothesline. Cody Rhodes drops the legal man and covers him for the pin and a quick win.
Winners - Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase
After the match, Cody gets on the mic and says people want to know why he did what he did to Hardcore Holly. He says when you grow up as Dusty Rhodes' son and you hear about doing things the right way, paying your dues. He says he took that advice and applied and where did it get him? It got him carrying that damn baby boomer Hardcore Holly, keeping his career alive. Cody says he couldn't even focus on himself, so why wouldn't he seek out Ted DiBiase before he even debuted? Cody says he is not a patient man and says when you're this talented, you don't have to pay dues. Ted gets on the mic and says people of his generation don't have the spine to do what they did. Cody says the people in this country under the age of 30 are nothing but spoiled, obedient sheep and makes a reference to people using Youtube. Ted says what they did makes them simply priceless. The music hits and the WWE Tag Team Champions make their way to the back.
- Back from commercial and we see Katie Lea and Paul Burchill backstage. Katie says she should be Women's Champion. Paul says he promises she will be Champion and says he will be back and tells her not to get into trouble. Jamie Noble walks up and introduces himself to her, saying he was a big deal on SmackDown. Jamie says he is here to get respect, prison rules style. Jamie says he will go up to the biggest and baddest RAW Superstar and draw a line in the sound. Katie motions towards Kane who is standing there. Jamie walks up to him and says since there's no boss now with Vince gone, they're equal. Jamie tells Kane don't let him find him in his locker room taking his stuff or there will be trouble. Jamie talks some more trash and cracks jokes, turning around and telling Katie that's what he's talking about. Jamie turns around to get caught by Kane's clutch. Jamie runs off as Kane follows.
We see Jamie Noble run out to ringside and try to hide behind the ring. Kane's pyro and music hits as the former ECW Champion makes his way to the ring. Jamie dives out of the ring and attacks Kane on the floor. The two go in the ring and Kane fights him off with a right hand and a big boot, knocking him back to the floor. Kane grabs Jamie by the throat and chokeslams him onto the announcers table. Kane stands over Noble laughing as his music hits.
- We see Chris Jericho backstage making his way to the ring as we go back to commercial.
WWE Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Chris Jericho
Back from commercial and Chris Jericho makes his way to the ring first, looking pissed off. Jericho gets on the mic and talks about last night and says tonight also, he has been told Shawn Michaels isn't in the building. Jericho talks about HBK's eye and some other crap. Lance Cade is at ringside.
Jericho challenges Shawn Michaels to a one-on-one match at the Great American Bash pay-per-view. Jericho says tonight he is going to take back his Intercontinental Title and says for both Kofi and Michaels, the worse is yet to come. The pyro explodes and out comes the WWE Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston as we go to commercial.
Back from commercial and Jericho has Kofi grounded on the mat. We see a clip during commercial of Kofi doing some high impact move on Jericho but getting countered. Back in the ring, Kofi with a 2 count on Jericho. Jericho hits a clothesline, knocking Kofi back down. Kofi bounces off the ropes with his head and starts to fight back.
Kofi hits a big shoulder block then the big leg drop to the gut but gets caught off the ropes by Jericho and rolled up for a 2 count. Jericho with a kick to Kofi's head and another 2 count. Jericho hits the Lionsault on Kofi but only gets another 2 count.
Kofi rolls out of a move by Jericho and gets a 2 count but Jericho rolls him up and they go back and forth. Kofi uses the tights but Jericho kicks out. Jericho rolls Kofi back up and tries to use the tights but the referee sees him and DQ's him.
Winner by DQ - Kofi Kingston
After the match, Jericho attacks Kofi and digs at his eyes with his fingers. Jericho leaves the ring pissed off as we go back to commercial.
- Backstage we see Edge arguing with Ryder and Hawkins at a car, talking about how his Title is gone. He tells them to get in and drive, saying he just wants to get out of here. The three drive off as we go back into the arena.
WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk vs. John "Bradshaw" Layfield
JBL's music hits and the white limousine pulls into the arena as the challenger steps out and makes his way to ring. We go back to another commercial.
Back from commercial and Lilian Garcia is in the ring doing introductions. She introduces JBL who is in the ring and next, the World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk. The new Champion comes to the ring with the belt around his waist, looking pumped as JBL stares him down.
The match gets ready to start as JBL's personal security team starts walking towards the ring, surrounding it. JBL goes at Punk fast, knocking him down with a big clothesline and dropping the series of elbow drops, getting a 2 count.
They go off the ropes and Punk takes JBL down with a big arm drag and then kicks him to the outside. Punk slides to the outside but gets caught by a huge clothesline from JBL. Punk gets slammed head first on the announcers table and thrown back in the ring. JBL covers Punk for another 2 count.
JBL continues to dominate the match, locking on a tight Sleeper hold on Punk, wearing Punk down. Punk fights back with elbows to the ribs and bounces off the ropes only to get dropped by JBL's strength again. Punk manages to hit JBL with a boot to the face and a big kick to the head, knocking JBL down.
Punk hits the big running knee in the corner and a bulldog on JBL for a 2 count. Punk leaps at JBL but gets caught in a big fall away slam and another 2 count by JBL. Punk manages to hit a clothesline off the top rope for another 2 count. Suddenly John Cena and Cryme Tyme appear at the entrance way.
John Cena and Cryme Tyme rush the ringside area and start brawling with JBL's security team. In the ring, Punk nails JBL with the GTS and gets the pinfall and the win.
Winner - CM Punk
After the match, everyone brawls at ringside as CM Punk leaps over the top rope onto everyone. They continue brawling as RAW goes off the air.
