WWE Removing “Dated And Edgier” Footage From Digital Platforms

WWE has announced they are removing “dated and edgier footage from digital platforms.”  WWE spokesman Brian Flinn said the following about the decision:

“For years WWE has produced programming that is rated PG in primetime, and most recently rated G on Saturday mornings. To better reflect our current family-friendly brand of entertainment, WWE is removing some dated and edgier footage from digital platforms. Some of this footage has been misused in political environments without any context or explanation as to when it was produced. This damages the corporate reputation of our company. WWE is well within its rights to protect its intellectual property for fair use.”

So they are now slowly erasing the attitude era?

    • CL

      That’s the sound of it:(

  • Josh Nylund

Are you serious!!!!???….Oh my god who cares what Politics think!!!! It's what we want, It's what the fans want, It matters what we want and what we want to see!!!!! The WWE never cared about it before so why should they
now!!!!??? So pretty much they are gonna act like the Attitude Era and Ruthless Aggression Era never happened???? BS!!! Who cares about Linda's campaign??? She's going to lose anyway!!! The media is a lie and so is Politics and the fact that the WWE cares about what both think just baffles me!!!! This is an all time bad decision by the WWE and an all time low!!!! I will continue watching because I love wrestling, Have ever since I was about 3-5 but I'm very disappointed!!!

    • XKonn247

Who cares a out Linda’s campaign? Vince? Idiot.

      • Patrick Peralta

Vince cares about Linda's campaign and her family that's who cares.

    • Charles

      ?????!!!!???!!!!!??!!!!!

  • havoc525

So, basically, the Attitude era is making Linda’s campaign fail, so we need to remove all refernces to it from existance…except for making it a focal point of what will easily be our highest selling video game ever.

    • Hardy

Yes in other words, story lines from years and years ago are making her look bad. It’s a joke. If another tv show had some slightly edgy programming, say a drama or comedy politicians wouldn’t jump on the bandwagon in the same way. Everyone knows how biased and silly politics can be, but this is going to slowly kill off their company.

  • Chris

And yet they continue to release ECW Blu-rays… such a hypocritical corporate explanation. The ironic thing is that this year they've been playing off the attitude era more than else, what with WWE 13 and all that lead up to raw 1000. So on one side of the coin they're desperate to cash in on WWE's greatest era and on the other hand they want to rewrite history. I really wish there was still another company Attitude Era around to drive WWE to the limit. Let's face it. The last couple of years were entertaining because of CM Punk stepping up, and the return of many legends.

  • G Ilyas

Does that imply that they will target Youtube and remove all "edgy" WWF videos there? Good luck with that…

  • http://tjrwrestling.com/ John Canton

Went to Youtube to look for the infamous Edge and Lita Bed Scene, Sure and behold WWE took them all down due to Copyright Infringement.

    • Taylor

Also any videos relating to the "Katie Vick" storyline are gone.

  • dmo

Wow, big mistake wwe! Big mistake! Over a dumb campaign that we all know Linda won’t win? That is completely and utterly stupid! I hope wwe realizes that they arent gaining fans, theyre losing them.

  • Ken

Ok now this really takes the urine.
Vince has completely lost both his nuts now. I swear, if I won the lottery (big) I'd buy TNA and make it my life's work to run him into the poorhouse just as a matter of principle. The man has now passed into the realm of being a complete and total tool. It must be early-onset senile dementia.

Consider this bad taste if you will, what with recent events and all, but when i saw this ehadline the first thought I had was that I wish Vince and Linda both would have heart attacks and die.
Hopefully Hunter and Steph will do a better job of running the company when Vince finally does pop his clogs/step down.

I am so glad, so very very thankful, that I'm old enough to have lived through the Attitude Era and the Monday Night Wars and can remember what it was like when the WWF, yes the WWF, thumbed its nose at its critics rather than bend down and take it like it does these days.
I'm also glad I stopped paying for WWE broadcasting a long time ago. I follow it only out of habit and curiosity these days, kind of an obsessive-compulsive thing I'm slowly weaning myself off. The way things are and the way things are heading I'd never start watching the WWE from scratch.

I mean, seriously, I'm a Brit, and back in the era of the Monday Night Wars Raw and Nitro were delayed and shown on Friday nights, Nitro on TNT and Raw on Sky Sports, both at the same time, with Raw repeated a few hours later. Smackdown and Thunder were shown on Saturdays, same channels, same repeat broadcasts.
The shows were so compelling and so dramatic and so 'must-see' that I'd avoid viewing any wrestling websites (including this one as it was back then, can't remember if Rich owned it then, but I've been haunting this site for longer than he's owned it) until after I'd watched them all because I didn't want to spoil the surprise.
I'd tape the shows for my dad to watch later, Nitro first then the repeat of Raw, then Thunder and the repeat of Smackdown, because the scheduling worked better that way. He'd watch them on tape, but I'd watch them as they were broadcast.
Basically on a Friday and Saturday from 9pm onwards my night was set in stone, and this is when I was at university, eighteen, nineteen years old. Rather than go out drinking I'd stay in and watch wrestling, the shows were that compelling, and I'd do this until Raw and Smackdown went live and until WCW folded.
I cannot in all honesty imagine anyone making such a commitment to the product in this day and age. I can't imagine anybody being sad and pathetic enough.

I don't know if you can tell, but the implications of this really make me angry.
    Can you tell?

    • ericdraven86

As a longtime fan, this does anger me. That being said, I don’t feel it is right to wish any ill will on Vince or Linda for this. Currently my thoughts on are simply just boycotting the new stuff they put out. They are making a business decision to further enhance their image, and in turn I shall make a consumer decision and not purchase anymore of their product.

    • Ken

To clarify, I don't actually want Vince or Linda to die. That was just an impulsive thought/comment. Don't thumb me down just for that. I'd be happy if they simply retired and left the business alone completely.

      • Logan_Walker

        Lol at “Ken”

    • Dude love

I do agree with the basis of your rant. However, you went over the line by saying that you wish VInce and Linda have a hear attack. Especially what happened to Jerry Lawler, it was completely senseless. Also, by calling die-hard fans of WWE to be sad and pathetic is absouletly inane. People don't view wrestling in the same light as you do. Some people find the WWE just as entertaining as it was 12 years ago. There is nothing wrong with that. I cannot fathom why you received so many thumbs up. You surely do not deserve it.

  • Joe

That’s fine with me but does us a favor vince take off the word Raw cause it no longer is raw call it Monday night HUGS…..John cena: I want a rematch for the wwe championship cm punk no cena why punk because you didn’t say please

  • Daarko

They should not remove the precious moments of AE, but if they want to remove the Katie Vick footage, be my guest. I Think that’s the kind of things They will target

  • Slade6alpha

Even if she loses, which she most likely will, hasn't it been said that the McMahons will continue to pursue this BS?

  • Bill

    NOT THE ATTITUDE ERA!!!

  • http://www.twitter.com/RKWilliams93 RKWilliams93

Guys, it just means that they'll be removing the Trish Stratus/Vince Mcmahon segment and anything else which were part of a storyline which was embarassing such as the Katie Vick stuff.

WWE are not removing the attitude era!

ECW is a trademark of WWE libraries and was a promotion on its own many years ago whose product had nothing to do with WWE.

I know this last comment may anger many of you but the attitude era was 10 years ago . . time have changed, move on with your lives.

    • ericdraven86

By that same logic should I throw away my Beatles albums? Both are forms of entertainment, and both are “dated”

      • Dude love

I guess you can't comprehend sentences. You basically compared the Beatles to Vince Mcmahon ordering Trish Stratus to strip in the middle of the ring and anything equivalent to that.

        • ericdraven86

Actually, I compared once sourse of entertainment to another. WWF “dated and edgy” programming to (by definition alone) a dated music catalog. I didn’t mention any specific moment of the attitude era. I guess you can’t have any sort of civilized dialog, considering you started your response by trying to insult my intelligence.

          • The Dude

I was referencing RKWiliiams93′s comment. Search YouTube. There are many attitude era moments still on the web. WWE is just getting rid of raunchy segments that were absolutely tasteless and uncalled for. I don’t know what the outcry is all about. WWE isn’t erasing the attitude era. Why is WWE 13 featuring the attitude era if they no longer want to acknowledge it?

  • jeremiah

That's it wrestling has just died in my eyes!

  • Dave

They would make more money from politics. What you are doing is simply looking at salary, but think of the tax breaks and everything else she could and would "vote" in to help the company make and keep capital. Making money in politics is a lot more than just salary. Plus politics offers an incredible retirement plan.

  • Sjenttivensventa

Wwe is a bad joke that has gone on to long

  • Bill

R.I.P. WWE their rating are gonna go bye bye. They made more money and had better ratings during the attitude era. This family friendly crap is gonna run the company into the ground. Why don’t they get big bird out there to wrestle pee wee Herman and kill the company faster!

  • Mario

I think that this sort of move is a TOTAL LACK OF RESPECT for the WWE fans , especially the 30 and over crowd !

    • H.M.

      I'm 20 and I'm mad.

  • Matt

WWE likes to think they can erase history and unfortunate for us, they have the power to do so. Luckily, I have the memories of all those moments happening live so I can't say I'm missing out. One day they'll release a more comprehensive Attitude era video library, no doubt. Linda just has to finish running for stuff first.

  • Ant

I'm in the south Western CT district and I would never vote for Linda.

  • hurrigame

May Linda’s political career go the way of her WWE appearances…short and not worth remembering.
