WWE Responds To Criticism Of Jack Swagger/Zeb Colter Storyline

If mainstream media attention is what WWE is going for with Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter well main stream attention is what they got. The right-leaning Fox News Channel featured the a critical segment in reaction to what was on this week’s Raw. They actually concluded by questioning whether or not Ann Coulter could take legal action for the play on her name. You can watch the segment in the video embedded below:

WWE responded to a report by The Hollywood Reporter with the following statement:

“WWE has a long history of creating fictional characters that serve as either protagonists or antagonists, no different than other television shows or feature films,” said Brian Flinn, WWE’s senior vp marketing and communications. “To create compelling and relevant content for our audience, it is important to incorporate current events into our storylines.

“WWE is creating drama centered on a topical subject that has varying points of view to develop a rivalry between two characters,” he adds. “This storyline in no way represents WWE’s political point of view. One should not confuse WWE’s storytelling with what WWE stands for, similar to other entertainment companies such as Warner Bros., Universal Studios or Viacom.”

Not only does this criticism prove the mainstream media has nothing better to do than analyze a scripted television show but it highlights their lack of research. Linda McMahon ran twice as the Republican nominee for Connecticut state Senate and Vince McMahon was a donor to a Mitt Romney (the Republican Presidential nominee) super PAC.

I like this Zeb Colter character as it’s totally Vince McMahon.

Didn’t know it was possible, but apparently you don’t even have to watch wrestling to be a total mark.

I watch some of Fox news and trust a certain amount of their coverage but these people are flat out stupid. The dummy in the Mr Rogers sweater is the stupidest of the five. They spent nearly that whole segment picking out ‘wrestling names’ for each other. This isn’t journalism. This reminds me of the liberals on The View on ABC. We have two things wrong in this country…Washington D.C. and the mainstream news media. This really makes Fox look bad. The Mr Rogers clown actually had a look on his face at the end of his opening statement like he really thought he was intimidating Vince with that story. I’ll agree the Zeb and Jack storyline is risky and Vince wouldn’t have ever done it during the election and it could bite him later if Linda runs again but like Richard said its a fictional television show…get over it. On the other hand they may be giving Vince exactly what he wants…attention. I’ll admit too the brunette reporter is very attractive…not very bright but attractive.

Richard, you might find that the McMahon’s love the Republican party but hate to see it killed by the tea party – the easiest way to understand the tea party movement if you don’t know about politics is to go and watch the TV show ‘Newsroom’ which exposes them for what they are. For instance how it pretends to be a grass-roots movement when it’s quite the opposite. The person completely against the tea party in the newsroom is also a Republican.

Fox News has a lot of nerve to criticize WWE for a fictional character they have on their shows. When Fox “News” puts way worse propaganda on their network and reports it as the news. Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity spew way worse crap on a daily basis on their shows when compared to anything that Swagger and Zeb Colter have said so far.

Also in response to the comment above, there is nothing false about the left/right divide that exists in today’s American politics. It’s a very real issue and is the major reason that our government is unable to accomplish anything that benefits the people. Politicians are too busy blindly voting along their party lines, no matter what the issue is or what is best for the people. Which is obvious when the Republican Congress refuses to pass anything supported or written by our Democratic President. It’s B.S. and they should all be ashamed of themselves for their lack of interest in helping the people who they are supposed to serving in the first place. They’re too busy bickering between parties and are afraid to vote differently than how everyone in their party is voting. No matter what is actually best for the people in this country. Its sickening.

If it’s true that the WWE is putting real political views of campaign (not due to arrest or injury) the any Afro American or Hispanic I would b thinking twice about working for the WWE.

Zeb’s lines are the TRUTH, no fiction about it,this country is being taken over by others that want handouts for nothing and I for one am sick of working and providing them their living. Let them work like I have to support themselves and their family. Keep telling like it is,GO ZEB.

It love the fact Zeb is a conservative tough guy. But what is this crap about him disliking immigrants? Conservatives LOVE immigrants as long as they come to our country LEGALLY. WWE sucks for this decision to make him “anti-immigrant”. This really sucks.
