WWE SmackDown! Results - April 20, 2007
From: Milan, Italy
Report By: Rudi Pavani of Lordsofpain.net
WWE Smackdown! Opener:
We go straight to the arena to kick off the show as Michael Cole and JBL welcome us to Milan, Italy.
Referee: Jim Korderas
Finlay vs. Batista
The start:
Lock-up and Batista shoves him down. J.B.L. puts over Batista and how he almost broker Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania. Batista works on the left arm of Finlay to start. Cheap shot from Finlay behind the ref’s back, then gets an uppercut for a near-fall. Batista takes Finlay down by the legs and starts hammering away until ref Jimmy Korderas breaks it up. “Batista, Batista” chants from the Milan crowd. Finlay tries to get his bearings, but suckers Batista in and throws him through the ropes to the outside.
The Finish:
Batista regains his compuser and boots Finlay in the face. Back in, a cover by the Animal gets two. Batista wears Finlay down with a rear chin-lock on the mat as this match is still in first gear. Finlay continues with his heel tactics until Batista just tosses him out of the ring as we go to break. We return with both guys on the outside, and Batista is owning Finlay, throwing him against the barricade. Seconds later, Kennedy comes from the dressing room, attacking Batista on the outside for the DQ.
Winner by disqualification, Batista
The Aftermath:
Finlay uses the Shilalleigh to soften up Batista. Both men work him over in the ring as refs come out to try and stop them. Kennedy does what he does best, trash talking Batisa. Finlay gives him the Celtic Crush and that’s that.
In the arena:
Jillian comes out, apparently having dropped her surname. She shows the video of her attacking Ashley last week. She says Ashley couldn’t be there tonight, so she’s prepared an Italian opera song for her fans in Milan. She goes on to sing about some Italian foods- actually, singing didn’t quite describe what she was doing. Michelle McCool interrupts, and here I thought she was a heel. She says something in Italian that pops the crowd...apparently, it was “you’re horrible.” Jillian went for a punch, but Michelle takes her down and starts punching away, then kicks her out of the ring.
Referee: Charles Robinson
Chris Benoit and The Hardy Boyz vs.
Montell Vontavious Porter, Chavo Guerrero and Gregory Helms
The start:
Chavo and Benoit start things off. Benoit with a double-thrust to the chest as he was coming off the ropes. Reversal into the ropes by Chavo and he catches Benoit with a knee-lift. Tag is made to Porter, who stomps away at his rival. M.V.P. doesn’t want Benoit though and he tags Helms. Arm-drag and dropkick by Benoit follow. Now Matt Hardy is in.
Mid-match notes:
Back elbow catches Helms coming in and Matt hits a double axe-handle off the top rope. Helms counters Hardy into a neckbreaker. Helms goes off the ropes but gets caught with a clothesline by Matt. Jeff tags in and dropkicks Helms. Whip into the ropes by Hardy, followed by a hip-toss. Helms telegraphs Hardy’s moon-sault and the former Hurricane drags Hardy into the heel corner. Chavo tags in and cuts off the ring nicely. Chavo goes to taunt the faces while the heels choke away at Jeff in their corner. Suplex by Chavo and M.V.P. is tagged in. He’s got an arm-bar on Hardy. Helms is back in and he goes to work on the mid-section of Jeff. Another cheap-shot from the heels and Helms chokes Jeff on the middle rope. Chavo makes the tag and dropkicks Hardy for a two-count.
Crowd gets behind Jeff and he starts fighting back, but another dropkick puts Hardy back down. Helms tags in and Matt breaks up a pin attempt. Porter in but he can’t get a three-count either. Porter punches away at Jeff in the corner, but the ref has to admonish him. Big kick to the back by Porter. The heels go to work on Hardy as Benoit makes his case to the ref, to no avail. Suplex for two by Porter, who’s still in. Hardy with a headbutt and a tag to Benoit, which gets a rise out of the crowd. He suplexes Chavo on top of Porter in a cool move. Porter tags out at his first opportunity, but Helms gets caught in the trio of German suplexes. He gives the signal for the end, but Chavo interferes.
The Finish:
Matt gives the side-effect to Chavo, then the Twist of Fate to Helms. Swanton by Jeff onto Helms and everybody but the legal men are left. Porter tries to interfere but gets tossed aside by Benoit. Flying headbutt onto Helms then the Sharpshooter gets locked in. Porter again fails in his try to break it up, and Helms taps.
Winners - Chris Benoit and The Hardy Boyz
Back on Smackdown:
Maryse welcomes us back to Smackdown after taking a few weeks off.
WWE Tag Team Championship Match
Referee: Mickey Hensen
Duece and Domino vs. Brian Kendrick and Paul London (c)
The start:
Kendrick and Deuce lead off and Kendrick uses his speed to avoid Deuce. Side-headlock by Deuce and he REALLY wrenches it. Kendrick ducks a fist then leapfrogs Deuce, follows up with a forearm and a dropkick. Cross-body by London after the tag and he stays on Deuce. London wrings the arm then tags in Kendrick. London back in with his double-stomp on the arm. He uses his feet to dissect Deuce.
Mid-match notes:
Tag back to Kendrick and you can already tell how this match is going to go, only because the champs have never gotten this much offense in any other match against these two. London tries to moon-sault onto Domino on the outside, but Domino dodges it. Kendrick hammers away at Deuce in the ring, and while the ref checks on London, Domino interferes and nails Kendrick. Tag now in to Domino. The challengers have all the offense here as trainers come out to check on London. Despite the fact that London is out, they still cut off the ring. J.B.L. compares the heels to Steve and Sean Simpson from South Africa.
Kendrick tries a sunset flip, but Domino gets a hard clothesline for two. Knee to the face follows up and London is still face-down outside the rings. Deuce is in there, front face-lock with an arm-bar is applied. Kendrick punches out, but gets caught up trying to counter an Irish whip and Deuce uses that smack-you-in-the-face offense to regain control. Domino is in and he hits a kneedrop. Kendrick fights back again and Domino again clotheslines him. The announcers criticize Domino for not hooking the leg on the pin attempts.
The Finish:
Big fist-drop by Deuce and he still can’t get the pin. Deuce shows his frustration. Kendrick fights off both heels and hits a flying forearm on Deuce. Both men are down. Deuce is up first and knees Kendrick in the head. Tag to Domino and this could be it. Big sweeping sidekick by Deuce as Domino holds Kendrick and that does it. New champs, folks.
Winners and new WWE Tag Team Champions, Duece and Domino
Backstage:
Kane is backstage...he’s in action next!
Handicap Match
Referee: Chris Kay
Kane vs. David Taylor and William Regal
The start:
Regal and Kane start things off and Kane flips Regal over using the arm. Left arm of Regal is worked on by Kane. Cole announces this is the 400th episode of Smackdown, and I’m surprised it took this long to announce it. Taylor makes the blind tag buts gets elbowed down. To the outside, Kane goes head-first into the steps by Regal. Kane makes it in at the nine-count.
Mid-match notes:
Regal tags in and starts with the forearms and knees. Referee Jim Korderas has to physically separate Regal from Kane in the corner, which allows Kane to hit the right-hand. Regal tags Taylor and he goes to work on Kane in the corner. Front face-lock by Taylor ends up in a bodyslam by Kane. Again, the tag is made to not allow Kane to continue his offense. Regal gets tossed into the buckle and then back-dropped out. Taylor in, with a double axe-handle to Kane. Well, I didn’t expect them to get this much offense, so that’s a plus.
Taylor keeps Kane on the ground and now Regal is tagged in. Double-team suplex by the Englishmen and a cover by Regal gets two. Kane covers up as Regal was pounding away. Taylor is tagged in and he hits a dropkick. Didn’t get much air, though. Regal back in and he just kicks Kane in the face. Nothing fancy about these guys. Knee-drop follows by Regal. Front-face lock allows him to tag Taylor. Taylor puts Kane on his back and Regal comes off the ropes and just decapitates him (not literally, of course) with a kick. Regal comes in and Kane’s had enough.
The Finish:
They try a double-team, but they get double-clotheslined instead. Kane squashes both guys in opposite corners, then tosses Taylor out of the ring. Sidewalk slam on Regal and this could be the end. He goes to the top and comes down with what they generously refer to as a flying clothesline. He gives a big boot to Taylor and he clotheslines him out. Regal snuck out of the ring at this time and the pair are making a hasty getaway.
Winner by count out, Kane
Backstage:
Taylor and Regal complain about Kane to Teddy Long. Next week, Kane and Boogeyman face Taylor and Regal. Kristal, with arms full of merchandise, enters the picture with Teddy. Apparently, she went on quite the shopping spree. They share a kiss as the announcers stare blankly for a moment.
Non Title Match
Referee: Jim Korderas
Mr. Kennedy vs. The Undertaker (c)
Mr. Kennedy comes out for his match and does some mic work. After that, we take a break.
The start:
Kennedy’s kick when Taker ducked for a back-body drop had no effect, and he eventually got caught with a boot by the dead man. Taker jabs away at Kennedy, then works the left arm. Taker wants to go old school but Kennedy’s right hands to the head stop that. Kennedy goes up to suplex Taker off, Taker pushes him but Kennedy comes right back and nails a suplex off the middle rope. Taker kicks out at two and does the sit-up. Kennedy stays on the attack though.
Mid-match notes:
Kennedy gets reversed into the turnbuckle and gets clotheslined. He finally goes up for old school and hits it. Taker then clotheslines Kennedy over the top rope and Kennedy ends up on the announce table as we head to break. Taker has the advantage when we return, and apparently had it throughout the break. Taker just wears down Kennedy with his offense. Taker makes a mistake in the corner and Kennedy capitalizes. Taker fights back with some boots, but Kennedy continues to work on that left knee. Kennedy puts his own boots to Taker in the corner, then hits a running boot to the face as Taker is seated in the corner. Kennedy works on the left arm, then puts the knee to Taker, who just o-lays him out of the ring. Kennedy’s face connects with the steel steps, courtesy of the champ. He then hits the legdrop with Kennedy’s head draped over the apron.
The Finish:
Off the ropes, Kennedy hits a neck-breaker. Taker with a big clothesline that turns Kennedy inside-out. Whip into the buckle, Taker picks him up and hits the Snake Eyes followed by a boot. Taker gets Kennedy up and down with the chokeslam. Finlay and his Shillaleigh interferes to cause the DQ. The duo do some double-teaming again, their second time of the night. Crowd wants Batista, but they don’t get him.
Winner by disqualification, the World Champion, the Undertaker
