WWE Smackdown! Results - 12/15/06
Boston, Massachusetts

Report By: Wade Keller of PWTorch.com

WWE Smackdown! Opener:

Pyro blasted as the camera panned the crowd. Michael Cole and JBL introduced the show, plugging that Armageddon was in two days live in Richmond, Va. They plugged the TV main event of Kane & Undertaker vs. MVP & Kennedy.

In the arena:

John Cena's music played as he made his return to his original home. He said he doesn't have an answer for where Parts Unknown is, but he does have an answer for why the World Champion is on Smackdown. He said he is there because he lives there - in Boston. He said he lives right up the freeway. He pointed out his dad at ringside, and then went to ringside to hug him. He said there was no way he was going to miss a Smackdown in Boston. He said reason no. 2 he's there is because it's the holiday season and every year WWE runs a Secret Santa program. He said this year he got stuck with his favorite announcer of all time. He said Michael Cole's Christmas list was disturbing. He said he got him everything he wanted. He walked up to Cole and presented him with an enorous hard salami, a picture of a shirtless David Hasselhoff (JBL: "You wanted that? You freak!"), and a bag of salty nuts (Cena: "Because everyone knows Michael Cole loves to eat salty nuts." JBL stared down Cole as if he really asked for those three things. Cena returned to the ring and said the no. 3 reason he's there is because of Armageddon. He said history will be made there because the WWE Champion gets a history-making opportunity to fight on the very same side as the World Hvt. Champion, Batista. King Booker, Sharmell, and Finlay walked out onto the stage, interrupting Cena. Booker bragged that Batista is a wounded animal. They went to the TitanTron for a clip of last week's Smackdown where Finlay attacked Booker with "the dreaded shillelagh." Booker said Batista won't be there this week, and they don't want Cena to fell left out, so they're going to give him the same beatdown they gave Batista. Cena stood in the ring in a batting stance for some reason, holding his title belt as a weapon of defense. Batista's music played and he ran to the ring with a bandaged arm and his title belt. They stood in the ring as Finlay and Booker stood at ringside, yapping at them. Teddy Long's music played, and he George Jeffersoned onto the stage. Long said he was booking Finlay vs. Cena one-on-one in the main event as a warm-up for their tag match.

Brian Kendrick, Paul London and Jimmy Wang Yang vs.
William Regal, David Taylor and Gregory Helms

The heels isolated and beat on Kendrick in the opening minutes. Cole noted Kendrick & London have been tag champs for seven months. JBL said they've sparked a renessance in tag team wrestling. Kendrick hot-tagged Yang at 4:00. JBL said he doesn't like Yang, but he's about as exciting as he's seen on Smackdown in a decade. After a flurry by the faces, Regal and Taylor bailed out and headed toward the back. That left Helms alone. Wang moonsaulted onto Helms a few seconds later for the win.

Winners - Brian Kendrick, Paul London and Jimmy Wang Yang

Armageddon Press Conference:

Clips aired from the Armageddon Press Conference. These press conferences remain a good idea for a number of reasons, most of all for these video packages which give the PPV a "big deal" feel. They didn't show much of it this time, though. Mostly a few comments from Batista with Booker and Finlay looking on from the side. It appeared to be more a scene from a roast on Comedy Central than a press conference.

Referee: Jim Korderas
Matt Hardy vs. Joey Mercury

They aired a clip of the Hardys vs. MNM at December to Dismember. JBL said the match stole the show. Mercury had the ref carpet rolled out, but didn't have Melina or Nitro with him. It's strange seeing one-third of an act on one brand and the other two-thirds on the other brand coming out to the same music. Cole congratulated JBL for being honored for his efforts to bring WWE to Iraq to entertain the troops. Mercury settled into a sleeper at 2:00. Hardy fought out of it as the crowd chanted his name. Mercury stopped a Hardy comeback with a neckbreaker and a forearm off the top rope. At 3:00 Hardy did come back with an elbow off the second rope. During the count, Cole said, "Mercury's done!" - thus giving away the kickout. Seconds later, Hardy hit a Side Effect and a Twist of Fate. During that ref count, Cole said nothing about the match being over, and of course that meant a three count was coming.

Winner - Matt Hardy

Backstage:

Backstage, MVP threatened to fire his agent for not getting him out of his inferno match. Mr. Kennedy walked up to MVP and demeaned his concern over his match where he might get a blister of something, whereas he faces the possibility of being thrown into the back of a hearse. "Do you know where you go when you're in the back of a hearse? You go to the cemetary." Their argument escalated, then Kennedy said they had to stop arguing and get on the page. MVP asked if he was with him. Kennedy said he was. They shook hands.

Backstage:

They showed a shot of Undertaker and Kane facing each other as fog surrounded them. Taker rolled his eyes back into his head and they looked at the camera. It was a little spooky.

The Undertaker and Kane vs. Montell Vontavious Porter and Mr. Kennedy

JBL sold the Infero Match well, asking Cole how MVP could prepare to face Kane in an Inferno Match when Kane likes fire. Taker and Kane took early control on MVP. JBL complained that the Smackdown fans are cheering freaks like Taker and Kane instead of role models like Kennedy and MVP. At 3:00 MVP hot-tagged Kennedy after Kennedy distracted Taker. JBL said Kennedy has five wins over five different World Champions, "and that has never been done before." At 5:00 Taker walked the top rope and came off with the forearm on MVP. JBL said, "He's from old school, you're from ballet school." Even Cole recognized that was a bad attempt at one-liner, so Cole sarcastically shot back, "That was good." JBL said, "I thought it was." When Kennedy entered the ring, Kane followed. Taker and Kane knocked MVP out of the ring, then double chokeslammed Kennedy in mid-ring. They both did the throat-slash arm gestures, then Taker lifted Kennedy. MVP yanked Kennedy out of the ring. Taker flipped over the top rope to the floor and pursued MVP onto to the stage where he threw him into the set. Kennedy whipped Kane into the ringside steps. JBL said those steel stairs "don't budge an inch." They always shift a few inches, actually. JBL wondered if Kane would even make it to Armageddon. Kennedy got into the hearse and was about to run down Kane when MVP ran out and stomped on Kane a few times first. Kennedy honked. The lights went out. When they came back on, Taker was sitting in the passenger seat. That was pretty funny, as Taker didn't oversell it. He just sat there, as if a passenger waiting for a ride. Then he shot a look at Kennedy, who jumped out of the car. Kane sat up and smiled. The heels fled.

Winners - Double Countout

In the arena:

Chavo Guerrero and Vickie Guerrero walked to the ring. Chavo demanded that Chris Benoit come out and apologize to Vickie. Benoit came out and said he had nothing to apologize for. He said he won't apologize, either, for what he's going to do to him on Sunday at Armageddon. JBL called Benoit a bully.

Referee: Chris Kay
Chavo Guerrero vs. Funaki

JBL said he used to look up to Benoit for all of his accomplishments, but now he's a disgrace. "You'd hit a woman, too, but you'd be afraid she's hit you back," said JBL. Basic squash match with Chavo hitting a series of backdrop drivers and finishing Funaki with the Frog Splash.

Winner - Chavo Guerrero

The Aftermath:

After the match, Benoit immediately charged into the ring and put Chavo in the Sharpshoter. Vickie entered the ring and slapped Benoit. Benoit held on tight to the sharpshooter and smiled. Then he released Chavo. Vickie shrieked and backed down. Benoit just stood over her and smiled. JBL said Benoit is a sick man. That whole scene was kinda awkward.

Referee: Charles Robinson
Vito vs. Sylvan

JBL said this was quite a match-up, with a freak in a dress and the other guy jealous of it. JBL said, "I just got back from Iraq. I wish I had some type of explosive. I'd blow the ring up and blow them to freak heaven and the wrestling world would be seriously better. This is sick." JBL said about Cole: "You have a beard. Most people would call it a wife." JBL gave Cole a hard time for some WWE.com clip of Vito rolling around with Cole, kissing him. Vito did his dress flap and dance. Sylvan gave Vito a snake eyes and an overhead fallaway slam for a two count. Cole said JBL has a hidden fettish and he's into the Vito thing. JBL called for the match to be stopped due to a lack of testosterone and because he's getting sick. Vito rolled up Sylvan for the win.

Winner - Vito

Backstage:

They showed Finlay backstage getting ready to face Cena.

In the arena:

The Miz stood in the ring with Kristal in front of a table with several big metal lids. Miz said this is the true story of when The Miz proved that he is not scared of his opponent at Armageddon. He said by taking the Miz's "Face Your Fears Challenge," he'll prove it. He said he dominated Fear Factor and Road Rules/Real World Challenge. He said he's done it all, including Trishell. He said tonight he's going to eat one fear after another after another to prove to all of the Mizfits that he's the most dominant, fearless superstar in WWE. He thanked Kristal for assisting him. She shot him a dirty look. Miz revealed a pig's tongue. Miz bit into it and chewed it and swallowed it. Miz then said the next dish was monkey brains. He grabbed them and ate them. Kristal freaked out and gagged. Miz licked his fingers clean. He said that proved he can eat sick, disgusting things and not think twice about it. Kristal revealed the third plate, which was a huge pile of worms. Miz lifted them and tried to put them into his mouth, but he couldn't do it. He gagged and in frustration threw the cover on the worms, proving that worms are more disgusting than monkey brains and pig tongue. Boogeyman's head popped up through the worm plate. Miz and Kristal both fled in sheer fright from the ring. Boogeyman came out from under the table and did his weird wiggling deal. Nice job selling that worms are the worst thing you could possibly eat, but the two things he ate before that were kind of channel-turningly gross.

Non Title Match

Finlay vs. John Cena (c)

JBL really talked up the match and said it was a first-ever match-up. Cole said, "There's nothing pretty about the way these two men go to battle." JBL said Cena has a huge ego to show up on Smackdown just to show off for his dad. Cole said Batista invited Cena. After some back and forth action early. Cena took Finlay down with a drop toe hold and went for an STFU. Finlay grabbed the bottom rope and bailed out to ringside. Cena went after Finlay. The Little Bastard ran out form under the ring. Finlay threw him at Cena. Cena caught him and threw him. Finlay ducked and he landed on JBL. He punched at JBL. Cole and JBL both jumped out from behind the desk. Finlay shoved the Little Bastard back under the ring and rammed Cena's head into the announcers' table. Finlay had an armbar applied after the break. They showed a clip of the ringside chaos before the break. Finlay continued to concentrate on the arm. Cole said if Cena's arm is weakened, it takes some moves out of his arsenal, doing a nice job giving a meaning and spelling out the consequences of Finlay's style. Finlay rammed Cena's arm into the steps at ringside. Cena came back at 12:00 and went for an FU. Finlay poked his eye to break Cena's grip. Cena hit a shoulder tackle and then a slam, followed by his "You can't see me" and "Five Knuckle Shuffle" routine. When he charged at Finlay, Finlay side-stepped him and Cena went shoulder-first into the ringpost. Finlay hit his Keltic Kross finisher and went for the cover. Cole declared that Finlay was going to score the upset, which gave away Cena's kick out. Finlay untied the top turnbuckle. As the ref put it back on, the Little Bastard slid a chair into the ring. Cena kicked it into Finlay's face, then lifted Finlay and gave him an FU for the win.

Winner, the WWE Champion, John Cena

The Aftermath:

After the match, Booker came into the ring from the crowd. They exchanged blows. Finlay hit Cena from behind with the Shillelagh. Batista made the save, his arm still wrapped. He shook the top rope and showed fire, as Cena lay on the mat wincing in pain from the attack. JBL said both world champions are headed into the PPV injured.
