WWE SmackDown! Results - 8/24/07
Columbia, South Carolina
Report by: Carl Walsh of PowerWrestling.com
WWE Smackdown! Opener:
We start off with a video package looking at last week's edition of Smackdown! and the WrestleMania rematch between Kane and The Great Khali which saw Khali get the win with the claw. Finlay then hit the ring and went to work on Kane, and then Batista cleaned house on both Khali and Finlay until Khali got Batista in the claw, leaving him laying. The fireworks then went off in the arena as Michael Cole and John Bradshaw Layfield welcomed us to the show, live from Columbia, South Carolina and we are 48 hours away from Summerslam and tonight, Batista will be in action with Finlay.
In the arena:
The music of Mr. McMahon hit in the arena as he made his way to the ring with Jonathan Coachman. Coach said as many of us know by now, McMahon's child is a male superstar, and more facts are being uncovered daily. He and Mr. McMahon are there to continue the investigation, and with every passing day, they are getting closer to find out who Mr. McMahon's son really is. We know that Mr. McMahon is tall, intelligent, loves making peoples lives a living hell, we know that he's white, and as we look up and down the WWE roster, there is no one that has these same qualities...Kane's music then hit in the arena as he made his way down to the ring. Kane stood face to face with McMahon and then began to smile. McMahon said there is no way this monster is his son. Coach said he does appear to have McMahon's eyes! Kane took the mic and said all those years that McMahon wasn't around. McMahon said he isn't Kane's dad. Kane said that McMahon wasn't there for all the birthdays, all the little league games that he missed. He wasn't there when he lit his first fire, or when he killed his first squirrel. Kane said McMahon has a lot to make up for. McMahon asked Kane what he wants. Kane said that he doesn't want McMahon's money. He doesn't want gifts...he just wants one thing. He wants Finlay! McMahon smiled and said he can have Finlay, and it will be Kane vs. Finlay at Summerslam.
McMahon said there is no family resemblance here...and then the music of Chris Masters hit as he made his way down to the ring. McMahon said we have been interrupted by the Masterpiece. Masters said not so fast Kane. Masters has proof Kane is not his child, and that he is his long lost son. Masters said Kane is ugly and couldn't be the fruit of McMahon's loins. Masters handed Vince a picture of him at 15 years old with McMahon. Masters said he has felt so close to him since that day. Masters said if he had to prove himself to McMahon, he will take Kane down in the Master Lock Challenge right now. McMahon calls for a referee and a chair. A referee comes down to the ring and we are set to go. Masters can't get the hold on, and then Kane tells Masters to sit down and he'll put it on him. Masters said no, and then Kane nailed Masters with the chokeslam, and hit his pyro. McMahon and Coach stand above Masters and tears up the photo that Masters gave him. Chuck Palumbo's music then hit as he made his way down on a motorcycle and the fans gave him a huge reaction here! McMahon tells Chuck to hang on a second, and since there is a referee and two wrestlers, let's have a match!
Referee: Jim Korderas
Chuck Palumbo vs. Chris Masters
The start:
Chuck went to work on Masters in the corner with right hands, and then nailed him with a short arm clothesline. Palumbo nailed another clothesline and then hit a back suplex. Masters rolled to the apron and then raked the eyes of Palumbo, and then snapped his neck off the top rope. Masters took over with shots to the back of the head, and then hit a slam.
The Finish:
Masters pulled the hair of Palumbo and then went for the Master Lock but Palumbo escaped and then fired up. Palumbo hit a pair of clotheslines but then ate a boot in the corner. Masters charged at Palumbo, and Palumbo nailed an overhead throw, and then a big boot. Palumbo hit the Full Throttle for the clean win.
Winner - Chuck Palumbo
The Aftermath:
Palumbo celebrated his win as McMahon and Coach looked on from the aisle way, and this has not been a good night for Chris Masters!

Chavo Guerrero vs. Funaki
The music of Chavo Guerrero hit in the arena as he made his way to the ring with Rey Mysterio's mask on a mannequin head. Funaki is awaiting Chavo in the ring.
The start:
Chavo and Funaki locked up and then Chavo kicked Funaki in the gut and then went to work with uppercuts and a pair of slams. Chavo gave Funaki another uppercut and then went for a right hand but Funaki blocked and hit some rights of his own. Funaki hit a spinning headscissors and then scored with a running bulldog.
The Finish:
Funaki hit a shining wizard on Chavo and then headed up top. Chavo crotched Funaki and then stomped away at him. The fans started to chant "619" as Chavo slammed one of Chavo's legs into the ring post, repeatedly. The referee called for the bell and Chavo has snapped.
Winner by disqualification, Funaki
The Aftermath:
JBL said for two weeks now, Chavo has been working his game plan for Rey Mysterio, working on the knee's of his opponents. Chavo slammed Funaki into the ring steps and then grabbed the mask and said this is what will happen in two days to Rey. Chavo put the mask on Funaki and then placed the knee of Funaki on the ring steps and then nailed it with a chair. Chavo Guerrero has destroyed Funaki here as a crew of referees hit ringside to put a stop to this. The fans chanted "Chavo Sucks" as Chavo shouted back that Rey Mysterio sucks!
Rey Mysterio:
We are reminded that Rey Mysterio returns to the WWE this Sunday night at Summerslam!
Number One Contenders Match

The music of Jamie Noble hit in the arena as he made his way down to the ring. Noble checked under the ring before he got in it, and he will be facing Jimmy Wang Yang here tonight, with the winner becoming number one contender to the Cruiserweight Title.

Jimmy Wang Yang and Jamie Noble locked it up, and Noble grabbed a front facelock into a go behind. Noble hit a shoulder block and then ate a back elbow and a standing moonsault from Yang. Yang nailed mounted punches in the corner but then Noble rolled him up for two. Noble levelled Yang with a clothesline and then locked in a body scissors.
The Finish:
Yang fought out of the body scissors with right hands and then catapulted Noble to the corner. Yang hit a series of clotheslines and then charged at Noble in the corner, but ate a knee. Noble went up top but Yang nailed him with a jumping kick. Yang nailed a huricanrana from the top for two, and then hit a kick to the gut. Yang missed a moonsault, and then Noble scored with a gutbuster for the win!
Winner - Jamie Noble
The Aftermath:
Jamie Noble celebrated his win and he will have an upcoming shot at the Cruiserweight Title. Noble looked under the ring again and crawled right under there. Noble came out the other side, and I guess Hornswoggle wasn't under there. Hornswoggle then popped his head out from under the ring as Noble had his back turned.
Backstage:
Teddy Long is backstage talking to Kristal, who is getting changed behind a screen. Long wants to help her out, but she won't let him. MVP comes in and stares at Kristal, and Long said she ain't no mirror. Long said it was good to see MVP standing up after being laid out on Saturday by Evander Holyfield. MVP said he will be the World Heavyweight Champion someday and he is half a man, half amazing. MVP said he could take anyone as a partner and win the Tag Team Titles. He said he will take the next person through the door and it's Matt Hardy! MVP starts to back track. Matt asks what MVP is doing in here and they start arguing. Long said congratulations on being the next person through the door, and next week on Smackdown, he will team up with MVP to face Deuce and Domino for the Tag Team Titles. Hardy looks confused as MVP is not one bit happy about this. Long tells them top go get warmed up for their basketball challenge.
Backstage:
Chuck Palumbo is shown shining his motorcyle and McMahon and Coach show up. McMahon said he has a bike back home. Palumbo said his dad was into bikes. He was also into Jack Daniels and liked to mix the two together. Palumbo said to relax, and that they had to peel his dad off the grill of an 18 wheeler. McMahon and Coach said they are sorry, but Chuck said not as sorry as his mom was, she was driving the 18 wheeler!

He says he hangs out with NBA stars all the time, and he can be seen with D-Wade and Shaq. MVP then went to hit a basket and missed it! Everyone laughed at him, including Michael Cole. MVP said this is not an NBA regulation floor, and these aren't even his shoes! MVP said he will show us something that Vince Carter taught him, and then hit a slam dunk. MVP the most important one is one he picked up, hanging out with Kobe. He said it's called the game winner. MVP hit a three pointer from way outside the D. MVP said he is better than you, and more importantly is better than Matt Hardy. The music of Matt Hardy then hit as he made his way out. MVP said Matt can't beat him and he is the greatest thing he's ever faced in his life. MVP is talking a lot of trash, and then Matt hit the ball off MVP's face. Matt then hit a lay up shot. Deuce and Domino then came out of nowhere and booted MVP and both went to work on Matt. They double teamed Matt Hardy and then Deuce hit the running boot of MVP, and then on Hardy as well. The music of Mark Henry hit in the arena as he made his way down to the ring as the World's Strongest Man, and he will be facing Brad Allen. Henry knocked down Allen and then kicked away at him on the mat. Henry went to the outside on the ring, and pulled Allen into the ringpost. Allen is out of it and this one is over.
Winner - Mark Henry
The Aftermath:
Henry got on the mic and asked what is going on. They bring out druids, what is with the sand? Is that supposed to intimidate him? He doesn't get intimidated, he intimidates. He said he is the Silverback of the WWE, and his name is Mark Henry...the lights went out and the gong struck before a blue light filled the arena. A video then aired about the man who can't be destroyed. We see footage of Death Valley and the druids digging in the sand. The druids uncover a box, and inside there are snakes, and the Undertaker symbol. Unforgiven. Henry looks ticked off as the fans chanted for the Undertaker.
In the arena:
Michael Cole is in the ring and says at Summerslam, there will be a Diva Battle Royal with the winner getting a title shot against Women's Champion Candice Michelle. We are now going to have a Summer Bikini Contest to get warmed up for Summerslam. Out comes Michelle McCool, Torrie Wilson, Kristal and Victoria. Cole said the fans will decide who the winner is, and we start off with Kristal. JBL says he is speechless, and wonders how Teddy Long got with that. Next up is Michelle McCool, and Victoria doesn't look happy at the reaction Michelle got. Victoria is next who tries to dance and the Diva's started to laugh at her. Torrie Wilson is last up and gets a great reaction also. Cole said how could he forget...we have a special participant...South Carolina's own...Mae Young. WHY. Mae Young makes her way down. Torrie, Kristal and Michelle hold the ropes open for her as she gets into the ring and takes off her gown and parades around in the swimsuit. JBL said she looks pretty good for 84 years old. What. Michael Cole announces Mae Young as the winner and Victoria storms off. Mae tries to take off her swimsuit and the other Diva's stop her, and Cole said that will be enough.
