WWE Smackdown! Opener:

We go to the ring where Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long is with World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali and Runjin Singh. Teddy tells Khali that he has news for him and wants to make sure that Khali listens to what he has to say. Teddy says that tonight we will find out who will face him at Unforgiven. Tonight there will be a Championship Competition which will be a series of matches to determine who his opponent will be. The first match will see Finlay face Kane in a rematch of their SummerSlam match. The winner of that match will face the winner of the other match as Batista faces Rey Mysterio.

Championship Competition First Round Match
Referee: Jim Korderas
Kane vs. Finlay

The start:

Kane takes a look at the shillelagh and then he picks it up. The referee tries to stop Kane from using it on Finlay but Kane has other ideas as he tosses the shillelagh towards the Fist-o-Tron. We see another one appear in the corner as Hornswoggle replaces the other one. Finlay tries to kick Kane but Kane blocks it and hits a short arm clothesline. Kane with an uppercut as well as more punches and a kick. Kane with a snap mare and drop kick to Finlay.

Mid-match notes:

Kane works on Finlay’s arm in the ropes and he also kicks it. Kane drops Finlay’s arm across the top rope and then he kicks Finlay in the shoulder. Kane with an arm bar but Finlay with forearms to try to get out of the hold. Kane with an uppercut to Finlay and Finlay goes outside the ring. Kane follows after him and runs the injured arm into the ring post. Kane with a boot to Finlay. Kane then pulls Finlay off the ropes and Finlay leaves the ring one more time. Kane goes out after Finlay but Finlay runs Kane into the ring steps. Finlay with a kick to the head and then he covers Kane but Kane has his hand on the ropes. Kane with an uppercut to the throat and one to the jaw. Kane with a kick to Finlay. Kane with an Irish whip but he misses a charge into the corner. Finlay with an elbow drop but he can only get a near fall. Finlay slaps Kane but Kane punches back. Finlay with a standing drop kick for a two count.

The Finish:

Finlay goes to the second turnbuckle for a splash but Kane gets his knees up. Kane with an Irish whip followed by a running clothesline. Kane tries for a second one but Finlay hits an elbow. Kane with another punch followed by a side slam and then Kane goes up top for the jumping clothesline. Kane sets for the choke slam and he hits it. Kane gets Finlay up but Finlay with a clip. Kane kicks Finlay. Hornswoggle distracts the referee and that allows Finlay to get the three count after a shillelagh shot to Kane.

Winner - Finlay

In the arena:

It is time to take a look at the challenges between Montel Vontavious Porter and Matt Hardy as we see the basketball competition from last week. Then we see Deuce and Domino attack Matt and Montel to send a message for their upcoming tag title match. We go to commercial.

Jesse and Festus:

We are back with Jesse and Festus talking about going back to school. Jesse says that this is back to school time. He says that he knows the kids dread going back to school because of the homework. Jesse says that his favorite class is lunch. Jesse says that Festus is a modern day Einstein. He excelled in all of the classes including Latin, English Literature, and Advanced Trigonometry. Jesse says that Festus has the face of an academic All-American.


WWE Tag Team Championship Match
Referee: Charles Robinson
Matt Hardy and Montel Vontavious Porter vs. Deuce and Domino (c)


The start:

Hardy with a baseball slide to Deuce on the floor and then he goes out after Domino. Porter sends Deuce into the ring and he covers Deuce for a near fall. Porter with a fireman’s carry for a near fall. Porter with another near fall and then he puts Deuce in a front face lock. Deuce with a punch to Porter but Porter with a drop toe hold. Hardy makes the blind tag and Domino tags in as well. Hardy with punches and forearms to Domino followed by a hip toss and slam. Hardy with a running clothesline into the corner and a bulldog for a near fall on Domino. Hardy with an arm bar and then he tags in Porter.

Mid-match notes:

Porter with an arm bar but he tags Hardy back in. Hardy with an arm bar as he starts to work on the shoulder. Domino with punches to Hardy and then Deuce is tagged back in as Deuce works on Hardy’s back. Domino tags back in and Hardy with a flying double clothesline on Deuce and Domino. Domino tags in but Hardy with a kick and then he hits an elbow from the second turnbuckle. Porter tags back in and he puts Domino in a front face lock. Matt takes off his shirt and Porter tags Hardy back in. Hardy with a forearm to Domino followed by a slam. Hardy with a running elbow drop for a near fall. Hardy with an arm bar and he backs Hardy into the ropes. Domino distracts the referee to allow Deuce to hit a clothesline from the apron. Domino with a near fall as we go to commercial. We are back and Domino has Hardy in a rear chin lock with his knee in Hardy’s back. Hardy punches Domino followed by a kick and both men are down. Hardy goes to make the tag but Domino pulls Hardy back into their corner. Deuce tags in and he chokes Hardy in the corner.

Hardy with a kick and forearms but Deuce with a drop toe hold to prevent Hardy from making the tag. Domino tags in and he hits a leg drop for a near fall. Domino with a reverse chin lock but Hardy gets to his feet and he hits a jawbreaker to escape the hold. Domino holds on to Hardy’s legs to keep him in the corner. Deuce tags in and he connects with an elbow. Deuce slams Hardy’s head into the mat. Deuce with a punch to Hardy but Hardy fights back. Deuce with a snap mare and then he puts Hardy in a cobra clutch. Deuce with forearms to the back but Hardy with a back body drop. Domino makes the tag and he keeps Hardy from getting to Porter with a front face lock. Hardy is able to get to his corner but Porter is talking to Cherry on the floor. Hardy cannot make the tag and Domino with a rollup but Porter makes the save and then he yells at Hardy. Domino with a jumping knee to Hardy but Hardy kicks out at two. Domino Irish whips Hardy into the corner and then he tags in Deuce who hits a running clothesline.

The Finish:

Domino is tagged in and he his Irish whipped by Deuce into the corner for a running clothesline. Hardy fights out of the corner and he tries for the Twist of Fate. Domino gets out of the hold but Hardy knocks Deuce off the apron. Hardy hits the Side Effect and both men are down on the mat. Domino gets Hardy’s leg but Hardy gets free. Hardy slaps Porter for the tag but Hardy hits the Twist of Fate on Domino before Porter gets in the ring. Porter throws Hardy out of the ring before he gets the three count on Domino.

Winners and new WWE Tag Team Champions, Matt Hardy and MVP

The Aftermath:

After the match, Porter celebrates in the ring with both tag team titles as Hardy watches from the aisle.

Backstage:

We go to the office where Vince McMahon is waiting. There is a knock on the door and Batista enters. Vince offers Batista luck against Rey and says that it was too bad about SummerSlam. Vince points out that Batista is from Washington D.C. and then Vince says that his father started his wrestling business in Washington D.C. so Vince spent a lot of time there. He says that they are both powerful, handsome, and virile. Vince suggests that he might be Batista’s father. Batista says that he was raised by a single mom who worked herself to the bone and struggled. He says that they were dirt poor. Batista points out that Vince was ‘over here’ a rich, powerful billionaire while his family was struggling to get by. Vince points out that he was not always a billionaire and says that he was a millionaire for a while. Batista says that if he found out that Vince is his dad who never contributed a dime while they were struggling, he would beat Vince unmercifully. Vince says that he does not see any family resemblance between him and Batista. He wishes Batista luck again as Batista leaves. We go to commercial.

The Wedding:

We are back with the graphic for the invitation for the wedding of Kristal Marshall and Theodore Rufus Long in three weeks on Smackdown.

In the arena:

Eugene is in the ring shooting t-shirts into the crowd. Eugene is interrupted by Mark Henry. Eugene stays in the ring while Henry approaches the ring. Eugene accidentally shoots a shirt at Eugene and Henry with a splash into the corner followed by a bear hug. Henry tosses Eugene out of the ring. Henry gets on the mic and he says that it appears that the Undertaker is coming back at Unforgiven. Henry says that is okay with him because he has bloodied Taker’s carcass before and he will do it again. Henry tells the crowd that he take it back to the desert and...We are interrupted by the bell tolling from the Undertaker’s music and the lights go out and we are draped in a blue light. We go to a video for the Undertaker that builds on the previous ones. This time a hand emerges from the ground. We return to the arena and Henry is standing in the ring with the lights still blue. We go to commercial.

Championship Challenge First Round Match
Referee: Mickey Hensen
Batista vs. Rey Mysterio

The start:

Rey and Batista shake hands before the match and hug. Batista backs Rey into corner on a collar and elbow tie up but Batista with a clean break. Rey goes for the leg but Batista with a front face lock. Rey gets to the ropes and Batista releases the hold. Rey with a kick to the leg to try to weaken one of Batista’s leg. Rey with more kicks but Batista pushes Rey into the corner. Rey gets out of a slam and hits a tilt-a-whirl head scissors. Batista with a clothesline when Rey comes off the ropes. Batista with a near fall and then he throws Rey out of the ring.

Mid-match notes:

Rey with a kick to Batista but when he tries for a springboard cross body, Batista moves out of the way and gets a two count. Batista with a body scissors and reverse chin lock. Batista with an Irish whip but Rey moves out of the way when Batista charges and Rey with a drop kick. Rey goes outside the ring and Batista goes out after him. Rey gets into the ring first and hits a drop kick that knocks Batista off the apron. Batista returns to the ring. Rey tries to Irish whip Batista, but Batista will not budge. Batista with an Irish whip of his own and Rey with a boot when Batista charges. Rey charges into a big boot from Batista and Batista has some remorse after he hits the move.

The Finish:

Batista sets for a Batista Bomb but Rey is able to grab the ropes. Batista drop Rey on the top rope and then Rey drops Batista across the top rope. Rey hits a springboard senton for a two count. Rey with a drop kick that sends Batista into the ropes. Rey tries for the 619, but Batista holds on to Rey and then he hits a spinebuster. Batista shakes the ropes but Finlay comes into the ring with a chair. Batista pushes the referee out of the way before he throws the chair at Batista. The referee calls for the bell.

Winner by disqualification, Rey Mysterio

The Aftermath:

After the match, Batista stands over Rey in the corner and then they hug again.

Survivor:

We are back and it is time to see what Ashley Massaro is up to. We see footage of her as she talks about her appearance on the next season of Survivor.

In the arena:

There is NO CHANCE and Vince McMahon comes to the ring with Jonathan Coachman. Vince talks about Triple H’s return at Raw and Vince calls him a wisenheimer. Vince talks about the four women Triple H brought out and he did not sexual relations with those women. He says that he has only had sexual relations with beautiful women. Coach stops Vince and says that they came out to prove that Vince does not associate with hoochies, tramps, and skanks. He says that Vince only associates with the highest caliber of women. Coach has gathered a group of women after doing some research to show what kind of man Vince is. Coach says that there have been too many women to count. Coach takes him back to January 1983 in New York City. Coach brings out Cheryl. Coach asks Cheryl if there is anything he would like to say. She says that she still remembers that night and the unbridled passion. She calls him the greatest lover that she had and no man can compare to him. Coach takes Vince to New Year’s Eve 1977 in the ‘way back machine’. Coach says that it was the first time he met Howard Finkel. Coach points out that Vince ‘rang in the New Year’ three times. Coach says that would be called a ménage a trois plus one. Coach brings out Theresa, Elizabeth, and Spice. Vince talks about the experience and Coach cuts Vince off. Coach asks them if they would like to talk about their night of passion. They talk about bringing in the New Year with a bang. It is time for another trip in the ‘Way Back Machine’. It is time to meet a woman whose life was changed after a night with Vince. Coach brings out Mary Catherine and Coach says that she is now Sister Mary Catherine. She tells Vince that ever since their one night together, the only other one who could ever satisfy her the way he did in 1981 at the Cape Cod Coliseum is God. After one night with Vince, she could never be intimate with another man. Vince says that Mary was ‘second to none’. Coach thanks the ladies for the trip down memory lane. Vince suggests sharing one more memory with the ladies. Vince talks about Monday night again and about his family His Son Shane, His Daughter Stephanie, and His Wife Linda are going to confront him next week with their attorneys. Vince says that he hates attorneys and he is starting to hate his family because they are all about the money. Vince says that there is more to life than money. Vince wonders where his family’s morals and ethics are. He says that if his bastard son arrives on Monday, he hopes that they can embrace him as a family and show him the love of a family. We go to commercial.

In the arena:

Chris Masters is already in the ring for the Master Lock Challenge. Chuck Palumbo rides to the ring for the challenge. Masters sets up the chair in the perfect position for Palumbo. Masters yells at Palumbo but Palumbo tells Masters to lock it in. Masters does not put Palumbo in the Master Lock but he puts him in a reverse chin lock. Palumbo punches Masters and Masters leaves the ring and heads to the back.

Backstage:

We go to the back where Jamie Noble is talking to someone about Hornswoggle and how he has to be at ringside since Finlay is wrestling. Noble is wearing a Hornswoggle shirt with Hornswoggle crossed out. Shannon Moore comes up from behind on Noble to wish him good luck for next week. Noble says that he does not need Moore to wish him luck. He says that he can go out there and take care of Finlay and then rip Hornswoggle’s head off. Noble says that they will be expecting that. He says that he needs a plan and tells Moore not to stick his nose in his business. Noble says that after he wins the title next week, nobody will be laughing at him again. Moore leaves and we see that Moore has put a sign on Noble’s back that says ‘I Love Leprechauns’. We go to commercial.

Championship Challenge Finals

Rey Mysterio vs. Finlay


The start:

Finlay backs Rey into the ropes on a collar and elbow tie up and Finlay slaps Rey in the head on the break. Finlay with a side head lock and shoulder tackle followed by a kick to Rey’s back. Rey with kicks to Finlay’s leg and then he hits a wheelbarrow bulldog for a near fall. Rey with a kick to Finlay followed by a forearm and shoulders in the corner. Rey with forearms in the corner but when he tries for an Irish whip, Finlay counters with a short arm clothesline.

Mid-match notes:

Finlay charges at Rey, but Rey low bridges and Finlay goes over the top rope to the floor. Rey with a slingshot baseball slide to Finlay and he goes to the floor. Hornswoggle trips Rey and then Finlay hits a seated senton onto Rey’s back. Finlay returns to the ring and we go to commercial. We are back and Finlay has Rey in a camel clutch as he continues to work on Rey’s back. Finlay with a forearm to Rey.

The Finish:

Finlay slams Rey into the bottom rope twice as he works on the back and leg. Rey backs into the corner and the referee checks on Rey. Finlay with a single leg crab on Rey. Rey hits an enzuigiri and then he avoids Finlay before giving Finlay a drop toe hold into the turnbuckles for a two count. Rey with a round kick for a near fall. Finlay kicks Rey in the chest but Rey hits a 619 to the back of Finlay’s neck. Rey with a springboard sunset flip for the three count.

Winner - Rey Mysterio

The Aftermath:

After the match, the Great Khali comes to the ring with Runjin Singh. Rey and Khali stand face to belly button and then Khali pushes Rey to the mat. Rey struggles to get to his feet while Khali stands over him. Batista comes from behind and punches Khali. Batista with a flying shoulder tackle that sends Khali into the ropes. Rey hits a 619 that staggers Khali and then Batista takes Khali down with a spear. We go to credits.
