WWE Stock Tumbles After WWE Network Subscriber Announcement

Shares of WWE stock dipped more than 15% in the morning trading hours after the company’s announcement the WWE Network has 667,287 subscribers.

Below is a screen capture of the stock tumbling:

Richard Reacts: Anything under 500,000 WWE Network subscribers would have been bad for WWE, anything over 1 million would have been excellent. WWE is simply in-between. They’re more than halfway to their target but they haven’t hit the mark where the service will be profitable. WWE CFO George Barrios has gone on record more times than I can count in saying that under 1 million subscribers, the company will view the Network as an investment. As long as they reach 1 million by the end of 2014, they will consider the WWE Network a success.

I think they need to really get the network out across the rest of the world as soon as possible. They can’t judge if it’s a success or not until then.

I think it’s kinda crazy investors losing faith because they ONLY have 660k subscribers after less than 2 months.

But is it REALLY (Really?) the Network subscriber count which caused the stock to fall? There could be any number of reasons.

It have easily been the complete disappointment that was WrestleMania 30… but then I read a great analysis about how to get to that 1 million mark they are going to have to win over almost another 500,000 people, when their hardcore fans have already signed up. Makes sense to be concerned in some ways

To be honest, I think 660,000 is pretty decent considering the Network is only – what – 6 weeks old?

And it’s only available in the States. Wait until it becomes more globally accessible.

These are pretty solid numbers. It’s not super great, but there is still time to grow it and they haven’t even hit other markets yet. Once they can launch the app on a few more platforms, it will help as well. I have an Xbox One and had to buy a Roku simply to watch WWE Network.
