The Survivor Series Kickoff begins with a shot of the arena with Josh Mathews delivering the welcome. The 27th annual Survivor Series is less than 30 minutes away. Josh introduces Mick Foley, Booker T and Bret Hart. Josh asks Bret what he’s most looking forward too. Hart said he’s most looking forward to the WWE title match between Randy Orton and Big Show. Foley says he has his eye on the World Heavyweight Championship. He questions if Cena is 100% and doesn’t think he’s had enough time. Book is looking forward to the Traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series Match. A preview of The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston is shown.
Booker talks about Miz leaving Kofi Kingston high and dry last week. Book says Kofi is about to heat it up. Foley said he made The Miz the star of his Most Mizerable Christmas book last year because he’s such a good jerk. Hart said he’s turned the corner. We go the social media lounged with Renee Young.
Use the hashtag #SurvivorSeries when discussing the show tonight. They are asking fans for their Survivor Series dream teams. Young said her dream team is Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, William Regal, Trish Stratus and Gobbledy Gooker. They promote the World Heavyweight Championship match between Alberto Del Rio, the challenger, and John Cena. Cue footage from last week’s episode of Monday Night Raw.
Hart says the key to the World title match is “how bad is John’s arm?” Bret puts over John’s ability to always find a way to win. Bret says his health is the big question. Booker says Cena is on the fast track could make one mistake tonight and re-injure himself. Foley questions his mental toughness and says no one likes to be booed on their hometown. Booker T says bad things always happen in your hometown.
They cute to The Usos and Goldust. Cody Rhodes comes into the picture and says they look ready. Rey Mysterio says they all look ready and tells them Dusty Rhodes and Rikishi are going to be very proud. He says they all know what a victory means at Survivor Series. They all put their hands in and agree it’s time to shine. They show the preview slide of the 5 on 5 Traditional Survivor Series Match.
Bret said each team is going to look for that weak link. Foley said they’re talking about four brothers, brother.
They go to Renee Young with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. Bryan says that Harper and Rowan are ruthless and violent without reason. He says they’re one of their biggest challenges since they’ve been in WWE. They like challenges and have been overcoming them since they came to the WWE. Punk says Bray Wyatt is a weird cat and calls Harper and Rowan weird cats. He says they’re not intimated. Punk says they are the GOATS – the greatest of all teams!
Foley says that under normal circumstances Daniel Bryan has a distinct facial hair advantage but that isn’t the case tonight. Booker says they’re going to be stepping in some big stuff tonight against The Wyatts. We go to the ringside with JBL, Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler.
JBL says as Booker T says, ‘we about to get crunk!’ Michael Cole sends us to the ring.
Kofi Kingston comes out first in blue and yellow. The Miz, now a heel, comes out with his cocky swagger. They show his heel turn from this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw.
The bell rings and The Miz extends his hand for Kofi to shake. Kofi is reluctant but finally does it. They shake and circle one another. They lockup and the in-ring action for the night is underway. Kofi backs Miz into the ropes and he hits a shoulder block. Miz rolls Kofi up for a quick cover. They exchange a couple near falls.
Kofi uses some of his offense and they exchange near falls yet again. It’s back and forth with tons of early near falls. The crowd appreciates their efforts, giving them a round of applause. Miz backslides Kofi, he counters. Both got quick counts. Miz hits an inverted atomic drop on Kofi and goes for the Figure Four Leglock. Kingston counters out and goes for Trouble in Paradise.
Miz blocks but Kofi finally kicks him in a counter, sending him to the outside. Kofi suicide dives to the outside onto his opponent. Kofi pumps the crowd as we go to commercial.
We’re back as Kofi is applying a submission hold to Miz in the ring. It looks like an inverted sleeper. Miz gets to his feet and backs him down with right hands. Miz goes off the ropes but Kofi counters with a cross-body lateral press into a two count. Miz gets up and Kofi slams him to the corner. Finally Miz connects with a kick to Kofi’s face, knocking him out on the apron.
Miz drags him to the center of the ring and pins him. Kofi kicks out at two. Miz dries a knee to the back of his opponent. Miz gets another two count. He gets on Kofi’s back and applies a headlock. The referee checks Kofi as the crowd gets behind him.
Kofi gets to his feet and backs Miz off with right hands, Miz counters with a knee to his opponent’s face. Kofi puts Miz to the apron but Miz counter. Kofi counters with a double stomp to Miz’s face. Kofi works over Miz, hitting a dropkick and clothesline. Kofi pumps the crowd and goes for the Boom Drop. He connects and goes for Trouble in Paradise.
Miz ducks underneath it but Kofi rolls him up for a two count. Miz goes for Skull Crushing Finale. He doesn’t get it as Kofi counters with SOS and a two count. Both men are slow to their feet. Kofi runs at Miz into the corner and Miz counters. Miz looks to apply the Figure Four Leglock. Kofi rolls him up in a small package for a two count.
Kofi counters and goes off the ropes for a cross-body lateral press and two count. Kofi connects with a stiff kick to the face of the former WWE Champion. He connects again but goes for a third and Miz gets up. Miz goes for Skull Crushing Finale but Kofi counters.
Miz counters agin, rolling Kingston up to go-home with the three count.
Winner – The Miz
After the match The Miz extends his hand again to Kofi. Kofi smacks him in the face and gets out of the ring. The crowd doesn’t know what to make of it.
We go back to the social media lounge with Renee Young. She promotes the #SurvivorSeries hashtag. She reads Tweets about their favorite Survivor Series dream teams. She reads off three teams sent in by viewers on Twitter – Undertaker, Triple H, CM Punk, Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin. Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, Razor Ramon, Bray Wyatt and The Undertaker. John Cena, Batista, The Rock, Goldberg and Steve Austin.
Bret says Randy has had a lot of help over the years but he feels he’s done it all himself. Bret says on one side Randy is a spoiled baby but the other side gets it done. Foley says it’s time for Orton to step up and start acting like a world champion. Booker says Randy has done it for the most part on his own.
Josh Mathews signs off to conclude Survivor Series Kickoff. I’ll be handing the coverage over the Sean Hopkins in the process.
We open the show with Triple H’s music, and the game makes his way out to the ring with Stephanie McMahon in tow.
Hunter and Stephanie both have mic’s in hand. Stephanie welcomes the crowd to the 27th annual Survivor Series. She says last week her and Hunter guaranteed there would be no interference in the WWE Championship match, but they’re taking it one step further by guaranteeing there will be no interference in ANY match. And they’re going to open the show with a traditional 5-on-5 elimination match. This segues into a video package that highlights the Authority, and some of the main feuds heading into tonight’s show.
The pyro hits, and we’re ready to begin the show properly.
